Toon expects his players to compete as hard in the classroom as they do on the volleyball court. The majority of his players graduate with their AA degrees, earning GPAs well above 3.0. In 17 years, 34 WWCC Merit Scholars and one NWAACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year have represented the volleyball program. Toon is also known for helping players find 4-year schools to continue their academic and volleyball careers. He has not only helped WWCC players, but has been called on to help numerous other athletes throughout the Walla Walla area find places to play. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Tim has spent many years as a volleyball clinician in Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Indiana and Texas. Tim and Beth are involved in a local Christian church and are raising their two high school aged sons, Kevin & Parker. Walla Walla Community College is a great place, states Toon. This institution values its employees and has created an atmosphere conducive to athletic and academic success for its students. I am proud to be a Warrior. Several years ago I was burned out on coaching and was interviewing for other jobs until God told me to relax and that He wanted me to coach. Since that time, I realized that coaching was not about me being successful, but about working hard for every player in my program so they can have a great experience. Unprecedented success has followed. It is with great excitement that Vince returns as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Walla Walla Community College. Although he had not coached volleyball before, his lifetime devotion to sports and his training in Psychology proved to be a valuable asset to a Warrior volleyball team that finished 2nd in the NWAACC last Fall. During the off-season, Vince played a key role in recruiting and used his strong administrative skills to prepare the volleyball program for the upcoming season. A great assistant is hard to find states Head Volleyball Coach Tim Toon. Vince is an exceptionally hard worker and is very loyal to WWCC and our volleyball program. His personality meshes very well with our players and he has learned a lot about volleyball In the past year. Vince s performance as an Assistant Coach has exceeded expectations in every area of responsibility. As a WWCC student from , Vince was a fixture at all sporting events on campus. He, along with super fan Sean McKillip, started the WARRIOR RUMBLE - a student pep group famous for creating a home court advantage for the Warriors in the Dome. After graduation from WWCC, Vince ventured to Eastern Washington University, earning his Applied Psychology degree in Vince is employed full-time at Walla Walla Community College, working as a Educational Talent Search Advisor. In October, Vince will be married to the girlfriend he met while attending WWCC. Michael Tyas Volleyball Manager (2nd Year) Michael joined the Warrior staff last year and returns for an encore performance in He is a student at Walla Walla Community College studying to be a Veterinarian Assistant and will turn 22 this Fall. Despite the scares on his body, Michael never seems to run out of energy states Head Volleyball Coach Tim Toon. He has a true servant s heart and enjoys sharing his passion for life with those involved in the volleyball program. Michael helps run drills in practice and runs the scoreboard during matches and tournaments. While attending Walla Walla High School, Michael spent 2 years as a Student Athletic Trainer. He graduated with his diploma in In his spare time, Michael can be found hiking out at Bennington Lake, enjoying all the wildlife in the area. Women s Volleyball Media Guide

3 Walla Walla community college 2009 SEASON OUTLOOK Head Coach Tim Toon, now in his 17 th year at WWCC, is very excited about the season ahead. Toon states that we are going to be young in a few key positions, but by the end of the year, should be a top 5 team in the NWAACC. Our sophomores are strong and steady players. They had a great off-season and are ready to lead this team to a great season. The freshmen come into the program with quality high school and club experience. Blending the freshmen and sophomores might mean a slow start, but we ll be tough at the end of the season. The Warriors will compete with seven other NWAACC Eastern Region teams to qualify for the conference championships in November. League play is always tough. We have a good shot at securing one of the top play-off spots from the East. Once you get to the NWAACC Tournament, anything can happen. The hottest team that weekend wins the NWAACC title. The non-conference schedule for the Warriors is tough on purpose. Playing the best teams is the only way to get better. Every tournament will match WWCC against top 10 teams in the NWAACC. In tournament play, we will play most matches with a split squad, meaning a lot of players will get court time. Despite this depth-building philosophy, we should compete for the tournament championship at every event. This will be another fun year. We have a great group of young women representing WWCC on the court, in the classroom and in our community. This 2009 team is one all of us will be proud of.
