1 V O LU M E 1, I SS U E 1 I N S ID E T H I S I S S U E : Yes it is true, it is that time of year once again where we trade in our sunglasses for reading glasses, our swimsuits for heavy jackets, and our attention from the television and other entertainment to books and news updates. That time of year we cram for tests and finish hours of homework. Fall Quarter has begun and summer has faded away. This year has a lot in store, from athletics, to theatrical performances, ASB events, and club events galore. Change your ways, step outside your comfort zone and make a new friend, join a new club, or maybe be nice to someone you usually would not. It s a new year, chance to start fresh and leave what happened behind. This first edition of The Warrior is just for some helpful hints and reminds of what has been going on and also get each student use to how things work. Look forward to multiple copies of The Warrior and don t forget to pick up The Warrior Quickie for other quick reminders! 5 T HE RRIOR PAGE 5 Now you can claim Rambo is V.P. of Business in ASB! I grew up across the state border in Milton-Freewater, OR. I m a third year college student. My first year and half was at Gonzaga University as an accounting major and then I transferred to WWCC last spring to prep for dental hygiene school. From the beginning I fell in love with WWCC, its staff and students. I m looking forward to being involved at the Business Vice President: Haley Rambo school, especially as a part of ASB. I hope to see many of you up in the SAC taking advantage of all it has to offer. While you are up there stop by my office and introduce yourself!!! Activities Vice President: Shiann Dreadfulwater My name is Shiann Dreadfulwater and I was born and raised in a small town called Grangeville, Idaho. I wound up in Walla Walla to play basketball for Coach Bobbi Hazeltine. I'm currently going on my second year as a student athlete, and my first year as a member of the ASB.

7 THE RRIOR PAGE 7 Coach s Note: 2010 Season Preview Head Coach Tim Toon, now in his 18th year at WWCC, is very excited about the season ahead. Last season ended in disappointing fashion, losing a 5-game play-off match. The loss kept the Warriors out of the NACC Tournament for the first time in 10 years. Toon expects a different result this year. The returning players worked really hard in the off season and had good success in Spring Tournaments. We are once again positioned to be among the top teams in the NACC. We have strong sophomores in a lot of positions but will need immediate contributions from several freshmen. The Warriors will compete with seven other NACC Eastern Region teams to qualify for the conference championships in November. League play is always tough. Last season, 4 Eastern Region teams a good shot at securing one of the top play-off spots from the East this year. Once you get to the NACC Tournament, anything can happen. The hottest team that weekend wins the NACC title. The non-conference schedule for the Warriors is tough by design. Playing the best teams is the only way to get better. Every tournament will match WWCC against top 10 teams in the NACC. In tournament play, we will play most matches with a split squad, meaning a lot of players will get court time. Despite this depth-building philosophy, we should compete for the tournament championship at every event. This will be another fun year. We have a great group of young women representing WWCC on the court, in the classroom and in our community. This 2010 team is one all of us will be proud of. 9 PAGE 9 The Warrior Men s Soccer Looking for Second NACC Title After a devastating loss in the championship game in 2009 to the Bellevue Bulldogs, the men s Warrior soccer team is gearing up to take down the champions and add another championship title to Warrior history. The team has a long road ahead before they reach the championship game though. The conference the men s team is in is extremely competitive and if they wish to be guaranteed a spot in the final four, they must win the East-Region title for the third year in a row and sixth time to the record of the program. If they don t, they will have to battle through two more aggressive games just to make it to the final four. Chad Bodnar s main concern for the team is that they keep working hard and stay healthy. The returning sophomores and fresh recruits make for a promising team this year. These are good kids who work hard, says coach Bodnar, and these attributes make for a good team. Be sure to come out and support your women s soccer team at Bodnar field on Friday, September 24 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, September 25 at 2 p.m. Both matches are against conference teams and the Warriors need two W s to continue the road to the East Region title and the NACC Championship game. Written By: Amanda Keebler Women s Soccer Looks to Repeat 2009 Championship As the women s Warrior Soccer team returns to Bodnar Field this season, they shoulder many expectations from the previous year. Of course, being 2009 NAC champions, the most obvious anticipation for this team, is to defend their title. The road to the championship game, however, also means winning the East Region title for the eighth year in a row and guaranteeing a spot in the final four of the playoffs. And being 2009 double title holders, all other teams have it out for the Warriors this season. This might make some coaches nervous, but coach Chad Bodnar is very confident in his team. With a core group of returning sophomores and many talented freshmen joining the roster this year, Bodnar is positive that the team will continue to work hard and make their college and supporters proud. With good men s and women s teams in his hands, Bodnar looks for two NACC titles in November, something that has slipped through his fingers the past two seasons. Be sure to come out and support your women s soccer team at Bodnar field on Friday, September 24 at 2 p.m. and Saturday, September 25 at noon. Both matches are against conference teams and the Warriors need two W s to continue the road to the NACC Championship game. Written By: Amanda Keebler
