CAN YOU DIG IT: Senior Libero Megan Baska recorded 37 digs over the three matches in the Hampton Inn Bama Bash and broke the 1,700 barrier during the tournament. She now has 1,711 career digs and is second on the all-time career digs list at Arkansas State. She passed Tessa Millikan s 1,669 career digs for second place with her 15th dig in the Ole Miss match Sept. 7. SENSATIONAL SADIE: Senior Sadie Clark broke the 100-kill mark for the season over the weekend. She has 112 kills for a 3.20 kills per set average to lead the Red Wolves in both categories. ALL-TOURNAMENT CLARK, TAKE TWO: Sadie Clark made her second consecutive all-tournament team by making the Hampton Inn Bama Bash All-Tournament team. She was tied for the lead in kills over the weekend with 27 and led the team in kills per set with a 3.00 average. Memphis (6-3) Tuesday, Sept. 17 6:00 p.m. CDT Series: A-State trails ALL-TOURNAMENT ACCOLADES FOR GERIG: Setter Jackie Gerig recorded her first al-tournament selection of the year at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash. She had 76 assists for an 8.44 assists per set average. SERVICE ACE SARAH: Junior Sarah Kemp leads the Red Wolves with 14 service aces, which is good for second in the conference. She recorded seven of those 14 this past weekend at the Bama Bash. CONFERENCE RANKINGS: Sadie Clark is ranked fifth in the SBC in kills per set with her 3.20 kills per set average while Kelsey Sullivan s.328 hitting percentage is fifth best in the conference. A SIDE OF REIS: Freshman Kelsey Reis leads A-State freshmen in kills (49) and tota blocks (24). She leads the team in block solos with five. DIGGING WITH SCHAEDIG: Freshman Markie Schaedig is second on the team in digs with 68 on the year. BLOCK PARTY: Kelsey Sullivan led the Red Wolves with 10 blocks at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash. She is the team leader in blocks on the season with 31. SETTING IT UP: Jackie Gerig leads the Red Wolves with 272 assists on the season, which is a 8.00 assists per set average. She registered 33 kills with an outstanding.360 attacking percentage and also added seven blocks over the tournament s four matches. NEW ASSISTANTS: The Red Wolves have two new assistant coaches for the 2013 season. Susie Jangada joins the A- State staff after spending one season at Jacksonville University. Tessa McGill joins the staff after lettering the past four seasons at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. FRESH FACES: The Red Wolves welcome 10 newcomers to this year s squad. Of the 10, two are transfers, while the other eight are true freshmen. FAMILIAR FACE: Senior setter Jackie Gerig transferred to A-State from LSU prior to this season, but is the only player on the roster to have played multiple seasons under Coach Rehr because of her time at Blinn Junior College in 2010 and THE GREAT EIGHT: The Red Wolves feature players from eight different states this season. The states represent are Arkansas (1), Illinois (2), Indiana (1), Iowa (1), Kansas (4), Missouri (2), Nebraska (1), and Texas (5). SHORTEST TO TALLEST: Senior Shelby Crncic has the distinction of being the shortest player on the A-State roster this season coming in at 5 5, while there is a tie for tallest Red Wolf between redshirt freshman Hannah McRee and freshman Kelsey Reis with both registering a height of 6 3. SIBLING RIVALRY: Megan Baska s brother, David Baska, is entering his senior season as a punter on the Air Force Academy football squad and has also lettered two years on the Falcon baseball team. IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY: Senior Jackie Gerig has seven siblings and all of them are volleyball players. Four of them have played or are currently playing college volleyball. CLARK S DIVISION I FAMILY: Division I sports are not uncommon to Sadie Clark and the rest of her family. Her father, Steve, played football at Kansas State before playing in the NFL. Her older sister Destiny played volleyball at Arkansas and older brother Zac played football at Oregon. Currently, her younger brother Trace is playing football at Oklahoma State. BASKING IN THE GLORY: Senior libero Megan Baska has already set the Sun Belt Conference record for Defensive Player of the Week awards in a career with 10. PRESEASON POLL: Arkansas State finished in a tie for fourth place in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Red Wolves and conference newcomer Texas State both received 64 points. CONFERENCE CHANGES: For the 2013 season, the Sun Belt Conference will use a double round-robin format where each team will play each other twice. With 10 members in the conference, this will equal 18 conference matches for the Red Wolves. The SBC also welcomes three new members to the conference in Georgia State, Texas State, and UT Arlington. LAST TIME OUT: TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (9/14/13) The Arkansas State volleyball team swept Nicholls State 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-13) in its last match at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash Saturday and finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. In the first set against the Colonels (3-7), Arkansas State got off to a slow start and trailed Nicholls State 5-1 after six points. The Red Wolves fought back to tie the set at on a Shelby Crncic service ace and recorded its first lead at after a Nicholls State ball handling error. A-State got within one point of winning the set at on a bad set by the Colonels, but Nicholls State fought off three set points to make it a game. After an Arkansas State timeout, a Sarah Kemp kill clinched the first set victory for the Red Wolves. With the 1-0 lead, the Red Wolves kept the momentum and raced out to a 12-6 lead after an attacking error by the Colonels. Nicholls State got within four points at 15-11, but wouldn t get any closer as A-State closed out the set on a 10-5 run for a set victory. With the 2-0 lead in the match, A-State jumped out to a 13-7

After a Colonels timeout, Nicholls State was able to cut the A-State lead to 16-12, but that was as close as the Colonels would get. The Red Wolves finished the set on a 9-1 run culminated by a kill from Mallory Warrington to give A-State the set victory and 3-0 sweep of the Colonels. Sadie Clark led the Red Wolves with nine kills, while Kemp and Kelsey Sullivan added seven kills each. Jackie Gerig paced A-State with 17 assists and Warrington handed out six assists in one set of action. Kemp recorded four service aces and Crncic added three of her own to lead Arkansas State. Defensively, Megan Baska, Crncis, and Gerig each had eight digs to lead ASU, while Kemp and Kelsey Reis recorded five blocks each. I ve said it several times, but we are progressing and heading in the right direction now, A-State volleyball coach David Rehr said. We re learning how to play as a team now and win as a team which is huge for us. We ve got Memphis and another tournament coming up, but it s all in preparation for two weekends from now when we open up conference play with Georgia State and Troy. Clark and Gerig were both named to the Hampton Inn Bama Bash All-Tournament team for their performances over the weekend. Clark recorded 27 kills on a.257 hitting percentage, four digs, and three blocks over the weekend. Gerig led A-State with 76 assists and also added 14 digs, nine kills, three blocks, and two service aces during the tournament.
