3 Senior Women's competitions XV's league: Introduction 2nd division: LNF-A (6 teams) new: Winterthur LNF-B (4 teams) all new Seniors: Leagues LNF-A LNF-B LNF-A: Playoff-Phases Semi-finals & finals first time ever for swiss women s rugby Champions: CERN Wildcats The swiss women s trophy crosses the Röstigraben for the first time!! 2 more clubs launched women s sections this season. They will both join the championship for : > Avusy > Würenlos

And the numbers? ### Seniors: Leagues LNF-A LNF-B LNF -A POSITIVE - Competition getting tight! - More games (1 more team) - Playoff phases NEGATIVE - Average # below 20 (both home and away) - Winterthur well below level - 2 forfaits: min. 12 players LNF -B - 4 new teams - Lots of game time - Format tournament, then championship - Level difference - No playoff > same bonus point issue we had in LNF-A before

6 Development Tournaments 2 Development Tournaments in fall: limited interest (15/25 participants for a national camp!) Comparison: 6 in season 16-17, average 100 participants Ø Seniors: Development Too much for teams with introduction LNF-B? New Approach in Spring 8: 2 Regional tournaments, hosted by clubs building new women s teams ( ) Ø Ø Avusy: 25 participants Würenlos: >60 participants Big success: a day in the true Spirit of rugby Discovery (incl. refereeing) Fun for all Friendships New emerging women s Teams ??

7 Swiss Women s Super 7s 3 rounds, On-Going / Neuchâtel / Genève FINALS / Bern Seniors: Swiss Super 7s Limited interest from women s teams: > 6+2(entente) participated in first 2 rounds > 14 clubs with women players in Switzerland! Challenge: Not enough weekends in the spring Late finish XV championship vs. early start of international 7s season (= intense preparation period for our national 7s squad) > all 3 dates fall on weekends of the national 7s team training camps / EC Focus to better 7s competition in : important > Easier game to start for new teams > Better access to funding > Growing popularity worldwide

8 Conclusion Conclusion Swiss Women's Rugby: License Statistics /30/ SENIOR U18 U16 U14 U12 U10 U8 U6 FOSSIL OFFICIAL ++ Seniors ++ Officials, Refs, Trainers + total licensed females: Continued growth - Youth / Underage girls: No significant changes, very low numbers > this is our future!

9 XV's Women's National Team New staff: Head Coach: Manu Revert (FFR) Backs Coach: Barbara Frauenfelder (GC Zurich, former swiss player) Physio: Monique Lemmens High Performance No official RE Competition in season Friendly game on in Konstanz: > CH 0 29 DE: many new caps 3 training camps (Sep, Nov 17, March 18) RE Women s Trophy: October 2018 (CH RUS FIN) Intense preparation period starting June open trainings to give new talent a chance to claim a place in the squad

10 VII's Women's National Team High Performance Year 3 with high-level coach Tcha-Tchibara: European Championship on-going : EC round 1 (Dnipro, Ukraine) : EC round 2 (Szeged, Hungary) New Physio: Monique Lemmens 9 training weekends (monthly) > great quality of work from players > negative: last minute cancellation of preparation tournament (Nancy 7s) Continued work towards moving up to the GPS 7s: Follow the team in their 2 EC 2018 tournaments

11 U16 & U18 girls Grassroots New staff for season 17-18: > Coach: Diego Rico (RC Zug) > Manager: Sylvie Albertoni (RC Haute Broye), Claudia Ricklin (RC Bern) No existing competition format for this age group of rugby girls still!! National training camps for age groups (U12 U18), Sep/Oct 17 and monthly Feb-May girls participating overall (3 agre groups joined!) 12.5 girls participating on average NOT ENOUGH U16: No activities possible this season not enough players to form a team U18: ongoing: Heidelberg 7 s support our girls Junior Girls Programme is basically non-existant. This needs to be our focus for the next years (starting now)

12 Assuring the continued growth of Swiss Women's Rugby in all areas Outlook Youth Continued push for U16 and U18 playing opportunities amongst girls of their age group More focus on regional activities > collaboration with regions & rugby schools! Seniors Continuation 2-tier senior competition Integration of new teams in LNF-B Continuation of development activities Better the Swiss Women s Super 7s > integration with grassroots and men? High Performance: Swiss Women's 7s team: GPS (European top level) by 2019 Swiss Women s 15s team: champions of RE Women s Trophy, October 2018 In general More qualified and licensed women in all rugby related functions (players, coaches, referees, club volunteers) > support peer networking

A big thank you to the organizers, coaches, referees, officials, managers, secretaries, and volunteers helping us with swiss women s rugby projects across the country: Outlook you re fantastic!! A special thank you to the continued support by the Swiss Match Officials for putting a special focus on female referees in the country. It s starting to pay off. Rugby is not carried by one person or a few people, but by many people and clubs pulling in the same direction. Our women s senior competition s development in the last 2 years is a great example of how we are stronger together.
