FROM THE MANAGER JORDAN CLARK WELCOME TO EVERSLEY & CALIFORNIA Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Meadowbank stadium. We have had a weeks break from fixtures where we have been able to take stock of the season to date and work hard on the training pitch building into the remaining 13 games plus three cup competitions which means we can play a huge part on who wins the league and see if we can reach a final in our first season. After a week off the players and management team have had a chance to re-charge the batteries ready for another tough test today against a very good side ineversley & California, we had a report on them from their previous fixture which demonstrated that we are in for another great encounter. It s great to be back at Meadowbank this evening. It was a good outcome last week in the league against Godalming Town where we won -3. It was an evenly matched game where either side could have won it. I wish you all a happy new year and look forward to a successful JORDAN CLARK Assitant Manager, Dorking Wanderers U23's

LAST MATCH -3 A crowd of saw a very entertaining game at Meadowbank as the U23s came out on top with a -3 win over local rivals Godalming Town. We led 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from Ben Dyson and George Membrillera. and in an fascinating final 10 minutes Paris Mason and James Dickson scored two more to win the match/ Jordan Clark said this", Each week we have 6/ year olds in the team which is testimony to their ability but with this comes a level of inexperience. We are back to training regularly which will help us reach our early season form. The key reminder to the players after the game was that not only is the result irrelevant to a certain extent for us but what is most important is that they make mistakes and learn from them, my players will make mistakes thats part of the journey and we must embrace that as part of the learning process. I have extended a challenge to all of them to put right those mistakes and continue with the process tonight and see how much learning has taken place. MOTM: James Dickson Attendence:

LAST MATCH 1-1 A good encounter at Fetcham Grove saw the U23s take a point against a good Kensington Borough team. Paris Mason go the Dorking goal on mins but unfortunately we conceded from a set-peice on 70 minutes so the tie finished 1-1 Jordan Clark said this"we have had a weeks break from fixtures where we have been able to take stock of the season to date and work hard on the training pitch building into the remaining 13 games plus three cup competitions which means we can play a huge part on who wins the league and see if we can reach a final in our first season. 7 EVERSLEY & CALIFORNIA Eversley FC was originally formed in 1910 but returned to play in Eversley Village in 2008.Eversley FC were founder member of the Surrey Elite Intermediate League the Boars became Champions in Season (on goal difference). The following season Eversley joined the Combined Counties in Division 1, for first 3 season finishing mid table. California Youth Football Club was formed in 197 when a group of parents brought together an Under 8 s team based in the California area of Wokingham, Berkshire and from where the Club takes its name. The Club now is providing foundation and youth football for all age groups, the Club expanded to become one of the largest youth soccer clubs in the area, and in the year 2000 it was the first Berks & Bucks FA affiliated club in the area to be awarded the FA Charter status, also winning the South of England FA Charter Merit Award in 2002; it is currently an FA Charter Development Club. California FC introduced girls soccer to the area in 2000, Today our Ladies 1st Team play their football in TVS League. California Youth FC established strong links with Eversley FC with the 2 clubs merged in 2012 to form Eversley & California Football Club moving to the Boars Den, where we play our games today. Playing in the CCL in recent times as shown the Boars have consistently finishing in the top half of the division, only missing out on promotion by only a few points in the seasons past & The season we finished in 2nd but could not go up due to ground grading. The new era under our Chairman & Exe Committee, has brought in a Reserves/Development side who are playing in the highly rated Suburban League in 2017/2018. Plus, by creating a training program which includes the youth team players from under 16 in to Seniors it allows a clear pathway to allow all to play in the same way with the coaching coming from the group of coaches who now are implementing that training plan. The extended ground improvements, which have completed in the last 2 years, to give us the required ground grading to have our first team being invited to enter the FA Cup season for the first time in our history. Unfortunately falling at the first hurdle and going out at our first attempt. The Club now operates a structure for progression for youth players in the local community from soccer school from the very young, through from Under 7 s up to and including Under 18 s, which is a true player pathway into Senior men s teams. Today we are already seeing several young players who joined the club at 6 years old, now playing regularly in our First & Development Teams. The Boars now are also providing football coaching and matches for all abilities over the weekend at our ESA sports grounds. The Club runs an annual tournament supported by teams from far afield, soccer camps and specialist coaching courses throughout the year.

COLLECTOR'S CORNER Club Shop Manager Paul Manuel delves through his Football Programme Collection as well as keeping an eye on what items of interest are currently selling and what they are selling for. As this is our first home game of the New Year, I would like to firstly wish all my readers a happy and prosperous Many conversations I have these days relate to whether or not our beloved matchday programme will soon become a distant memory. Many League clubs are now deciding not to print due to financial reasons. Many Non League Clubs like our Under 23 Combined Counties League team ( and most other clubs in this league ), have decided to go down the way of producing an online programme. From what I am currently observing, and in my case most thankfully an interest still remains and long may this continue. I write these notes prior to the Giant New Year Programme Fair on Sunday 6th January which is being held at the Royal National Hotel, Bedford Way, London WC1H 0DG, , let us hope it is well attended. Future Fairs & Auctions this month are being held at:- 22

Wiltshire Programme Fair on Sunday 13th at Swindon Town FC Legends Lounge, Sportingold Auction - Friday 18th at The Kings Hotel, Oxford Road, Stokenchurch, HP1 3TA Lockdales Auction - Saturday 26th January at 2, Barrack Square, Martlesham Heath, Ipswich IP 3RE (continues Sunday 27th). As you will see within this programme, today's opponents Eversley & California were the opposition for Dorking FC last ever game. Today I have decided to have a look at some football programmes that have recently sold or are currently selling at auction and share with you the prices they have been selling for. With the Sportingold Auction looming, I looked back at what sold at their last auction on 18th October Lot 26 caught my eye, the programme from the 1923 FA Cup Final (shown below) 23

This is often referred to as The Holy Grail of programmes. The game was between Bolton Wanderers & West Ham United. The programme auctioned was described as generally fair-good, the staples had been removed, it had some light creasing, small initials on cover and sold for As I have mentioned previously, earlier Manchester United programmes do well, as lots 89 & 90 will testify. Lot 89 was a 192 game v Derby County, this sold for Lot 90 was a 1929/30 game v Everton selling for Lastly but by no means least I found this little gem. 2

A game played on 2nd September 191 between Leeds City (pre Leeds United) and Fulham. This little beauty sold for a staggering 230. In my opinion, any of these would make a welcome addition to any collection. The hope is that an interest in collecting still remains. The Club Shop at Dorking Wanderers is always open on First Team Matchdays, however I can always pop down by prior arrangement. Merchandise and a large number of assorted programmes old and new are always available. If you have any wants then please get in touch. Either pop into the Club Shop or contact me at:-paulmanuel62@gmail.com Any unwanted football programmes or football related items are always most welcome at the shop. I would also like to thank our Under 23 Programme Editor Hugo Manuel for his help and contributions towards helping me with this article. 2

WE'VE MET BEFORE In this part of the programme we look at the previous meetings between todays opposition which is Eversley & California. Unfortunately no Dorking Wanderers team have played Eversley & California but the old Dorking team did. In fact their last game ever was against todays oppenents (Programme pictured above- right). That game was originally meant to be played on the 21st March but due to postponment it turned out to be Dorking FC's last ever game. The game ended in a draw. In the game at Dorking Eversley & California came out on top with a 2-0 win. This tie was played on the 19th November. To the right is a copy of Dorking FC before they went into extinction. 28

DORKING WANDERERS RESERVES FC HISTORY Dorking Wanderers Football Club was established in 1999, and in a short space of time has steadily climbed the non-league pyramid from park football to the Bostik League. The club has recently moved to the newly constructed, multi million pound Meadowbank Stadium development in the heart of Dorking Town Centre. The Dorking Wanderers Reserves have a firm commitment to develop local talent for the first team. They are the final piece of the club s player pathway and ensure that the best local players have maximum opportunity to progress and represent their home town in the first team. The new team will compete in the Combined Counties League Division One, three tiers below Dorking s Bostik Premier League side. The Dorking Wanderers Reserves team is managed by Jordan Clark and Peter Augustine. Jordan has been instrumental in setting up the club s academy which competes with the very best in the South East of England and Peter works full time for the Football Association as a County Coach Developer, supporting coaches and their training throughout Surrey. The Dorking Wanderers Reserves team replaces the Dorking Wanderers Development squad, who played in the Suburban League South Division under the management of club legend Steven Lunn and the experienced youth coach Simon Coffey. 29

Football On This Day - 12th January 2001 After resigning from Lazio Sven officially took over as England manager and we soon realised foreign managers were as crap as English ones! Football On This Day - Saturday 12th January 2013 Newcastle United 0-2 Manchester City (Dzeko 8, Negredo 90+) ON THIS DAY Edin Dzeko's eighth minute goal and a stoppage time strike from Alvaro Negredo gave Manchester City all three points at St. James' Park - but controversy reigned on Tyneside. In the 3th minute, with Newcastle trailing 1-0, Cheick Tiote's screamer flew past Joe Hart, only for the officials to chalk his strike off for an apparent offside and City wrapped up the points in the dying seconds as the Magpies pressed for an equaliser. United had started well, with Moussa Sissoko hammering a shot wide in the fourth minute. But then Dzeko gave his side the lead and for a while, City dominated with Alvaro Negredo almost forcing home Kolarov's cross-shot and then heading just over the bar. However United rallied and Steven Taylor stabbed wide before Yohan Cabaye's blistering half-volley was tipped over by Hart. The resulting corner was half-cleared as far as Tiote, whose 2 yard piledriver was going in as soon as it left his boot. As the stadium erupted, referee Mike Jones found himself surrounded by City players and then chalked the goal off, with replays showing that Yoan Gouffran was not impeding the goalkeeper's line of vision as he tried to get out of the way. Silva came close to adding a second before a stormy first half came to a close but Newcastle were again on the front foot at the beginning of the second. Vurnon Anita brought a good save from Hart before Cabaye forced an even better one, although Krul was forced to show his brilliance at the other end as he somehow kept out Negredo's header from point blank range. Cabaye came close with a dipping strike, then Gouffran picked out Loic Remy who brought the ball down but saw his effort blocked by the legs of Hart. Newcastle threw caution to the wind and Fernandinho hit the top of the bar with a header before Taylor stopped a Negredo shot on the line. And in seven minutes of stoppage time, Kolarov produced a wonderful block to deny Taylor - and Newcastle - and leave them to rue their disallowed goal. Even more so when, in the fourth added on minute, Negredo raced onto Milner's pass and although Krul frustrated him once, the striker tapped home the rebound. Referee: Mike Jones Attendance: 9,23 (2,00 Manchester City) 31
