WELCOME TO MEADOWBANK WELCOME TO FLEET SPURS Hi everyone and welcome to this Tuesday Night game between Dorking Wanderers U23 and Fleet Spurs. We have been on a baron spell of results recently but our performances of late have been good and my management team and I expect this to continue today with hopefully the result the players hard work deserves. The most important thing is that they make mistakes and learn from them and this showed last week with an impressive 5-1 win over Ash United. We welcome everyone to our new ground at Meadowbank which has many great facilities such as a: Bar, Fanzone, Healthy Kitchen, Club Shop etc. so make sure you get down the ground early. I would particularly like to welcome the staff, players and supporters of Fleet Spurs and hope they enjoy their stay with us today and we hope for an entertaining game and some good football. Hugo Manuel Programme Editor, Dorking Wanderers U23s 4
FROM THE MANAGER JORDAN CLARK WELCOME TO FLEET SPURS Welcome to all the staff, players and committee of Fleet Spurs, I hope you all enjoy your stay with us. We have been on a baron spell of results recently but our performances of late have been good and my management team and I expect this to continue today with hopefully the result the players hard work deserves. We have been going through a tough run of results recently which may suggest we are playing badly but its much to do with the learning of our young players, each week we have 6/ year olds in the team which is testimony to their ability but with this comes a level of inexperience. We are back to training regularly which will help us reach our early season form. The key reminder to the players after the game was that not only is the result irrelevant to a certain extent for us but what is most important is that they make mistakes and learn from them, my players will make mistakes thats part of the journey and we must embrace that as part of the learning process. I have extended a challenge to all of them to put right those mistakes and continue with the process tonight and see how much learning has taken place. Have a great evening! Jordan Clark Manager, Dorking Wanderers U23's 5
LAST MATCH 5-1 It was an emphatic win last Saturday for Dorking U23 as they beat Ash United 5-1 up to climb to 9th in the Combined Counties Division One table. A crowd of 46 saw this triumphant victory last Saturday. At half-time we led 4-0 thanks to goals from: George Membrillera (2), Ben Dyson and Callum Manning all in the space of 28 minutes. After the break it only took the wanderers four minutes to add a third thanks to Callum Manning's second goal of the game. Ash United scored a consolation goal in the 64th minute from Emeka Nwaubane but it was the U23s who came out on top. Dorking U23s manager Jordan Clark had this to say:" Our young group not only demonstrated their maturity but showed a real togetherness, no matter what you do as a coach or manager the players have to believe in it, as coaches its our job to make an environment for them to thrive in which was evident Tuesday that the environment is one of enjoyment. MOTM: Callum Manning ATTENDANCE: 46 6
LAST MATCH 3-0 Last Saturday was a nail-biting game. It was a close encounter between the two sides but unfortunatley for us the outcome did not go our way. It was an exciting game were Ben Dyson was the stand out player for Dorking. We had a young side out due to many injuries in the squad so under the circumstances it was a great performance for us. We have been going through a tough run of results recently which may suggest we are playing badly but it's much to do with the learning of our young players Jordan Clark said this", Each week we have 6/ year olds in the team which is testimony to their ability but with this comes a level of inexperience. MOTM: Ben Dyson 7

FLEET SPURS The origins of Fleet Spurs Football Club can be traced back to 1948, shortly after World War II, when a group of young footballers began playing friendly matches in the Fleet and Aldershot area. Opponents included the Royal Medical Corps, Royal Engineers, Royal Artillery, Royal Army Service Corps, Parachute Regiment, and Wellington Press. In 1951, Fleet Spurs FC first gained admittance to Aldershot and District League. The first club badge was a cockerel on ball, the same as for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, the rising stars of English Football at the time. Club Colours were originally black and white, again as for Tottenham. Subsequently, they changed to red and black stripes (AC Milan), and eventually became the present red and blue. Tradition holds that Fleet Spurs FC was formed as a reaction, or an alternative, to the long-established "semi-professional" Fleet Town FC. This was to provide an amateur football club for local players with a strong social environment. Notwithstanding, the proud Fleet Spurs FC cockerel motto has undergone transformations over the years and many will recall the challenges that the club faced with logos and Tottenham Hotspur a few seasons ago. The first honours were awarded in , when Spurs were Hants Junior Cup B Winners and Aldershot Junior Cup Winners. From the Aldershot and District League, the club moved briefly in to the Hampshire League, North Hants Division, and then effectively the 4th Division of the County. Then, after winning various League and Cup honours with the Aldershot and District League, the Reserves were formed in From , Spurs 1st team saw a spell in the Surrey Premier League, B and then A division, becoming League A Champions in and Cup Finalists in The Reserves remained with the Aldershot League. Spurs 1st team returned to the Aldershot and District League from 1971, where Spurs have continued to field teams to the present. The A Team was formed in 1977, and the B Team in A period of almost continuous League and Cup honours flowed from , with significant achievements at 1st, Reserves and A Team levels. Notably, for the 1st Team, this period included 4 seasons as Aldershot Senior League Champions and 3 seasons as Runners- Up. Then in 1991, as dual Aldershot Senior League Champions and Peter Bunyon Cup Winners, promotion was gained to Hampshire League Division 3. The Reserves, A team, and newly formed B Team remained with the Aldershot League. Then, promoted to Hants Div 2 in the first season (from 3rd place), the 1st team progressed to become Hants Div 2 Champions in The 1st team then played 2 seasons in Hants Div 1, at the highest Hampshire League level, finishing near the top of the League (6th), before cruelly being demoted from this lofty position immediately down to Div 2 for failure to meet new Hampshire League grounds standards. Significantly, in 1991, Fleet Spurs FC formed an association with Fleet Spurs Youth Football Club. Formed in 1981, FSYFC is a member of the North East Hampshire Youth League, entering typically 10 teams, ranging from Under 8s through to Under 18s. At the opposite end of the scale, and reflecting the maturity of the club, in 2003, led by Manager J Winter, the B Team became established as a veteran s side in Aldershot and District League Division 2, eligible for over-35s cup competitions. Particular mention should be made of Eric Heanes, loyal club servant in many official and unofficial roles.
FLEET SPURS In 2000, Eric was honoured by Hampshire FA in recognition of over 40 years of service to football with Fleet Spurs FC. Unfortunately Eric passed away last season. In , the club moved to play football at the new Hart Council development, with a joint Hart/Spurs Sports Council funding award, sited at Kennels Lane, Southwood. Kennels Lane provides pitches and modern dressing room facilities catering for all five teams if necessary, with a kitchen refreshment area, substantial spectator shelter, and a pitch surround and hard-standing and excellent floodlighting. The 2009/10 season saw Spurs begin to re-establish themselves in senior football. Bryan Sheppard was appointed Chairman and the 1st team under manager Neil Baker finished 3rd in Wessex League Div 1, the Reserves under Dave Bennett were crowned Aldershot & District Senior League Champions. At the beginning of 2010/11 season Neil Baker was offered a job at step 4 side Godalming and Fleet Spurs needed to rebuild. The season proved difficult with over 70 players being signed on and a number of off field issues including significant vandalism at the club ground. However the club has come through these issues and a mid table finish was a positive outcome to a very difficult year. For 2011/12 Andy Hunt was appointed manager with a rebuilding job and completed a very successful couple of seasons for Fleet Spurs with a totally new squad. Andy went on to Godalming in June of 2014, and the Committee appointed as Player/Manager Sam Knowles, Sam has been with Fleet Spurs for nine years and was assisted by Tommy Taylor until last season. 2017/18 saw a change of league for Fleet Spurs as they were moved laterally by the FA into the Combined Counties League which should help the club tremendously especially with travelling as the majority of clubs in the division are local. 2018/19 sees the appointment of James Simms and Alan Reed as joint first team managers 10
FIRST TEAM UPDATE 0-1 Tonbridge Angels It was a game that appeared to be heading for a 0-0 draw and one might make the case that this would have been the fairer result based on possession and chances created. But after experiencing a miserable November this was a hugely important result for the Angels that if nothing else restores a degree of confidence through the squad and as Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm commented The scoreline has brought a smile to the faces of my players and we needed to lift the gloom around the place. Tonbridge edged the first period with a performance that made last Saturday s dismal display against Leatherhead a distant memory. In the very 1st minute there was a wonderful chance for Read but Huk managed to smother the ball. On his debut Michael West on loan from Eastbourne Borough showed his quality with an effort on 10 minutes. The always willing Joe Turner for Tonbridge was instrumental in a period of superiority for the visitors during the middle of the half but Huk was in superb form in particular a wonderful save on the half hour mark from a deflected Read effort. Dorking of course were not without threat with perhaps the best of their chances falling to Tomas Tolfrey forcing a good save from Jonny Henly in the 22nd minute. The hosts improved in the second half with ace marksman Jason Prior more in evidence but it was the introduction of Giuseppe Sole on 54 minutes that gave them real hope of breaking the deadlock. It was Sole who brought the very best out of Henly who saved magnificently on 58 minutes to keep his side in the game. As the clock ran down it became an end to end affair not always high on quality with both sides at times going long but it was a game with intensity that the 526 spectators couldn t take their eyes off. Increasingly the shutout looked the inevitable outcome until Miles late, late intervention. MOTM: Ben Dyett ATTENDANCE:

COLLECTOR'S CORNER Club Shop Manager Paul Manuel delves through his Football Programme Collection as well as keeping an eye on what items of interest are currently selling and what they are selling for. Many conversations I have these days relate to whether or not our beloved match day programme will soon become a distant memory. Many League clubs are now deciding not to print due to financial reasons. Many Non League Clubs like our Under 23 Combined Counties League team ( and most other clubs in this league ), have decided to go down the way of producing an online programme. From what I am currently observing, and in my case most thankfully an interest still remains and long may this continue. I have to confess to being unable to find anything that stands out relating to our visitors from Ash today. Most of the stuff I have is from recent encounters against Dorking FC. 22
So I decided to have a look at some football programmes that have recently sold or are currently selling at auction and share with you the prices they have been selling for. Firstly, I found the Programme from Ash s near neighbours Aldershot. The match in question was from the 1969/70 season. The game in question was an old Division 4 match against Bradford Park Avenue and was played at the Recreation Ground on Saturday April 20th Normally this sort of programme would have little value, however this turned out to be the last ever league game for Bradford Park Avenue. There are a lot of people who collect first and last programmes, so there was no surprise when this sold for one pence less than
There is still a huge interest in Pre War FA Cup Final Programmes. None more so than this immaculate example produced for the 1924 FA Cup Final tie played between Newcastle and Aston Villa. This was known as the rainy final due to the horrendous weather on the day. The programme shown below sold at auction on 12th October for 2, Lastly I noticed this programme from a 1966 Fairs Cup Semi Final match played between Chelsea and Barcelona. This programme was produced for the original match that was Postponed. Another programme was produced for the game that was played. Hence this postponed programme became incredibly rare. The programme shown sold on 28th October for Anyone who bought on the night for a shilling would be showing a decent profit!! 24
In my opinion, all three of these would make a welcome addition to any collection. The hope is that an interest in collecting still remains. The Club Shop at Dorking Wanderers is always open on First Team Matchdays, however I can always pop down by prior arrangement. Merchandise and a large number of assorted programmes old and new are always available. If you have any wants then please get in touch. Either pop into the Club Shop or contact me at:-paulmanuel62@gmail.com Any unwanted football programmes or football related items are always most welcome at the shop. I would also like to thank our Under 23 Programme Editor Hugo Manuel for his help and contributions towards helping me with this article. 25

DORKING WANDERERS RESERVES FC HISTORY Dorking Wanderers Football Club was established in 1999, and in a short space of time has steadily climbed the non-league pyramid from park football to the Bostik League. The club has recently moved to the newly constructed, multi million pound Meadowbank Stadium development in the heart of Dorking Town Centre. The Dorking Wanderers Reserves have a firm commitment to develop local talent for the first team. They are the final piece of the club s player pathway and ensure that the best local players have maximum opportunity to progress and represent their home town in the first team. The new team will compete in the Combined Counties League Division One, three tiers below Dorking s Bostik Premier League side. The Dorking Wanderers Reserves team is managed by Jordan Clark and Peter Augustine. Jordan has been instrumental in setting up the club s academy which competes with the very best in the South East of England and Peter works full time for the Football Association as a County Coach Developer, supporting coaches and their training throughout Surrey. The Dorking Wanderers Reserves team replaces the Dorking Wanderers Development squad, who played in the Suburban League South Division under the management of club legend Steven Lunn and the experienced youth coach Simon Coffey. 28
