3 Welcome to Dorking FC and The New Defence, our home ground for the 2015/16 season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Sale and his team at Horley Town FC for their hospitality and I hope that you enjoy your visit with us today. This is our second and what should have been our final season here at The New Defence ahead of our exciting move back to our iconic new home at Meadowbank. Unfortunately our return has been put back for a further season due to Council delays in the tendering and construction process and we now have to wait until the 2017/2018 season. In the meantime, we have to put any disappointment behind us and ensure our Club continues to make good progress on and off the pitch. Our vision remains focused on continuing to rebuild Dorking FC as a respected football club but also as a social enterprise by re-establishing It as an iconic club at the heart of its rural community. We have already seen strong growth on the pitch this season across all our teams - including the Ladies, Under 18s and the First Team, who are progressing well and in with a chance of a top six finish. A big thank you goes to our football management team, my fellow Board members, all of our volunteer helpers and of course you, our loyal supporters. We hope you will follow us on our journey - grassroots football is important to us all, and Dorking FC hopes to make its own contribution to the benefit of everyone. To keep up to date with developments and news at DFC join us on and on facebook.com/dorkingfc. Kind Regards, Grant Ashley, Chairman

10 MATCH REPORT: DORKING FC 3-0 COBHAM FC 27/02/16 Having had the previous four games all postponed due to the weather, Dorking were finally back in action for the first time in three weeks. Goals from Wason, Bransbury and Turner, secured a comfortable win to take the Chicks within five points of their sixth placed opponents. The visitors enjoyed the better of the first ten minutes, playing some nice football to open up the Dorking back four, including Sanchez Harris as a make shift centre half, alongside the ever present Luke Harmsworth, as well as experienced full backs Jimmy Brazil and John Jupp. Harris soon settled into his new position and went on to look a natural in a well organised defence that was worthy of the clean sheet, ensuring that Andrew Osei in goal had little to do throughout the 90 minutes. The Chicks went ahead on 90 minutes when midfielder Scott Wason produced what might well be goal of the season, as he ran onto the ball some 25 yards out to let fly with a volley from the outside of his fight foot that nestled into the left corner of the net. Before the visitors could clear their heads, Dorking were on the attack again and doubled their lead within five minutes when Dan Bransbury capitalised on a mistake by the unfortunate Norman in the Cobham goal to simply walk the ball over the line. Skipper Martin Smith was unlucky not to send his team in at half time with a three goal advantage when his delightful lob over Norman hit the inside of the post and rolled along the goal line before being scrambled away. The Chicks dominated the second half as much as they had the first and, having scored the first goal through a spectacular individual effort and the second with a little bit of good fortune, it was total football that provided the third goal on 61 minutes. Wason showed great vision and then skill to play a 50 yard diagonal ball out to Smith on the right,

11 whose looping cross to the back post found Bransbury who in turn knocked the ball back for Nathan Turner to side foot home from six yards. With the Chicks in total control Glynn Stephens gave Ryan Lunn and Joe Teague from the U18 s the opportunity to gain some first team experience, and with two minutes left to go the youngsters combined to play a beautiful one-two between them setting Turner up with the chance to score number four - but this time his shot went over the bar. A comfortable victory for the Chicks that puts them in confident mood for the visit of Banstead Athletic on tonight as they turn their attention to cup action. Dorking FC: Osei, Brazil, Jupp, Harmsworth, Harris, Wason, Wright, Campbell, Smith, Turner, Brandsbury. Subs Webb, R. Lunn, Teague, Harris. Report by Paul Killick

14 SAVE DORKING FC #savedorkingfc By now, you will probably have read or heard the the news in the local paper or on radio. Mole Valley District Council informed us just before Christmas that they had not yet selected a contractor and they would be delaying the rebuilding of our Meadowbank home. As a result, they can no longer meet the long-standing commitment to bring Dorking FC home for the season and we must spend a third year ground sharing. This unexpected third season without a home ground puts a huge burden on our club. With no significant means of generating revenue, we now need to raise 30,000 to see us through the year. If we fail, the consequences are simple - Dorking FC will have to fold this summer, bringing an end to 136 years of football history and heritage in the town. The fundraising is underway. We have a great vision for the future of the club as a community and social enterprise at Meadowbank. There are four ways to contribute to the fundraising to make it happen: Crowdfunding Donations Small individual contributions from throughout the community will make a big difference. We aim to raise 5,000 this way - and have already reached more than 20% of this target. If this is how you would like to help save Dorking FC, please go to to read more and make a donation from 10 to 100. Pledge today - money will not be deducted from your account until early March. No. 12 Club Membership You can become an official member of Dorking FC. Membership is not just a great way of making a contribution, but you also receive a range of benefits in return - including a free season ticket for the rest of this season and the whole of 2016/17, representing a saving of up to 75% off gate prices. Adult, Junior and Family memberships are available online at While you re there, you can also pick up a Dorking FC car sticker to show your support. Loans with Tax Relief Individuals can make Community Investment Loans for a minimum of 1,000.

15 Because of Dorking FC s Community Interest Club status, loans will benefit from Social Investment Tax Relief - which is designed to encourage investors to support social enterprises, like Dorking FC. Individuals making an eligible investment can deduct 30% of the cost of their investment from their income tax liability for the tax year in which the investment is made, or for the previous year. The investment must be held for a minimum period of three years. Investors will also receive three years of Dorking FC No.12 Club membership, including a free season ticket. If you re interested in a Community Investment Loan to help save Dorking FC, please our Chairman, Grant Ashley, via dorkingfc@btinternet.com. Grant will get back in touch with full information. Sponsorship Local businesses of all sizes - and individuals - can sponsor the club and help save Dorking FC via our new Community Interest Development Fund. This is a low entry cost, soft cash flow impact plan, providing a range of Business to Community and Business to Business benefits. If you would like more information about how you can work with Dorking FC through sponsorship, ready for the return to Meadowbank, please send your contact details via dorkingfc@btinternet.com to our Chief Executive, Jason Rabbetts, who will get back to you to discuss a sponsorship plan that meets your aims and budget. #savedorkingfc Dorking FC is doing something different. We are creating a pathway for local young players to pay for their town s team as part of the non-league football pyramid system. And at the heart of it all is the community. Access for all, free football for all our players, quality coaching and superb facilities shared with all the local youth clubs and regenerating Meadowbank to benefit the town centre. It s a bright future for the club, the town and the community all tantalisingly within grasp. With your help we can save Dorking FC and make it happen. Thanks for your support.

21 THE HISTORY OF DORKING FC Football has been played in Dorking since the 1830 s. It was first played in the street, and an annual match took place every Shrove Tuesday in This tradition continued until 1905 when it was outlawed after ten years of suppression, and by which time Association Football had defined formal The cockerel was also very apparent as the main feature of the club s badge, and hence the club soon became affectionately known as the Chicks. The team first played at a site on West Bank before moving to a pitch off Fairfield Drive and then later to Pixham Lane in the 1920s. The Chicks didn t move to its current location at Meadowbank until 1953 when their success demanded better facilities and a new ground was built on an old dumpsite. Dorking s High Street. Those on the east of St Martin s were one team known as the Eastenders and those to the West, on the opposing team, were the Westenders. The pitch extended all the way from London Bridge Road to the Washway Bridge in Station Road. The match was preceded by a procession led by a band and men dressed as women collecting donations and carrying a cross inscribed with words kick away both Whig and Tory, wind and water, Dorking s glory. On the left of the cross was a red, white, and blue ball representing the Union, on the top a gold ball representing the winners, and on the right a red and green ball representing the cockerel colours of Dorking. Celebrations went on well into the evening when pre match collections were first distributed to shopkeepers for window damage and the balance consumed in beer at The Sun. rules for the game in 1863 (dictating kicking only) when rugby went one way with hands, and soccer (abbreviation for Association Football) went the other with feet. By now Dorking Football Club had formed in 1880, establishing itself as the second oldest football club in Surrey and one of the oldest in the country. The club originally played in green and red striped shirts with white shorts the three colours representing the famous Dorking cockerel. The new Meadowbank had a capacity of 5000 and a stand that accommodated 700. The ground was opened by the then FA Secretary Sir Stanley Rous and was inaugurated by an exhibition match against Corinthian Casuals.
