6 6 WELCOME TO LINGFIELD FC Good evening and welcome to Lingfield Football Club for tonight s match with Tunbridge Wells in the Southern Counties East Football League. Last Tuesday against Sevenoaks was same old us, played well, didn't take our chances and got punished for the mistakes we made. Football is all about fine margins and we just haven't been punishing teams in the dominant spells we have in games. Saturday against Cray was a totally different story, we defended resolutely and took our chances and I thought the first 45 minutes was our most complete performance of the season so far. We cut out sloppy mistakes and took our chances and run out worthy 4-2 winners. Tonight will be a tough game against one of the fancied teams for the league, I'm sure they will be well organised but I feel if we play like we did for the first half on Saturday, we would give anyone a game. 7 7 SKIPPERS NOTES After four successive defeats we had to change some things as we travelled to Cray. We started the game without an out and out striker, opting for Jake and Kesa, the latter, who was well worthy of a start after impressive cameos from the bench. their captain through abusive language towards the referee. After conceding through a free kick early on in the second half we got our much needed breathing space through Chan's third assist of the game and Harry converting the header. In defense Marco switched to left back and Abe returned to right back, personally I thought both were exceptional in dealing with two pacy skilful wingers. The defensive display in the first half was fantastic and gave us the platform to go up the other end and score three great goals. It was a fantastic win and we had been threatening to do this for quite a while. We are creating from everywhere at the moment but had been lacking the finishing touches, hopefully this is the turning point for us. 10 10 THE AWAY END TUNBRIDGE WELLS FC Senior football has been played in Tunbridge Wells since 1886 although the Club has had different names. Tunbridge Wells Wanderers might be the best, though an un-used, name as ten different grounds have been used around the town. The post war years, however, saw the club almost entirely based either at the present Culverden Stadium or at Eridge Road on what is now the Showfields Estate. In its heyday Tunbridge Wells played regularly in front of four-figure crowds and were a significant force in nonleague football. The 1930s in particular were heady days when long cup runs were almost expected by supporters and Football League opposition was not unusual in the FA Cup. Tunbridge Wells Rangers first Kent League fixture took place in Before World War II, the club also competed in the London Combination and Southern Leagues. After the war the Wells briefly resumed playing as an amateur club although success and a return to semiprofessional status were not far around the corner. In the club once more progressed to the FA Cup first round proper before being comprehensively beaten by Brighton. Honours in this season included a unique treble of Kent Senior Cup, Kent Senior Shield and Kent League Cup. After five seasons in the bottom four of the Southern League, the club duly collapsed at the end of the season and it was left to the determination of supporters to see the present day club formed.
