4 Who can Officiate? Anyone ages 11+ can certify to become a referee No experience necessary Referees are considered independent contractors by the club

5 Becoming a Referee All officials start at Grade 8 in MN Grade 8 allows you to. Center Referee for games up to the referee s own age group Assistant Referee (AR) for any youth game

6 Becoming a Referee Step 1: Register with the Minnesota State Referee Committee (MNSRC) Create a username and password at View upcoming clinics

8 Becoming a Referee Step 2: Pay your State Administrative & US Soccer Registration Fees 2017 Fees: State Fee - $20 (non-refundable) US Soccer Referee Registration Fee - $40 The MNSRC website accepts credit cards only

10 Becoming a Referee Step 3: Complete the on-line training Only available after you register 22 video modules this year (with quizzes) 7-8 hours to complete on-line training

12 Becoming a Referee Step 4: Sign-up and Attend a Clinic Clinics are offered all around the state 8 additional hours of classroom training are required for Grade 8 referees Must complete all online training before signing up for a clinic (which are first come first serve)

14 Becoming a Referee Step 5: Pass the USSF Grade 8 Test 50 questions Passing score is 40 out of 50 Retakes are permitted immediately if need be

15 Becoming a Referee Step 6: MYSA Background Check Only applies to adult referees (18+ years old) Instructions on the MNSRC website Club officials, coaches or managers will already have one and do not need to repeat

19 How assigning works Assigning Assignors are responsible for assigning referees to games Most assignors do use GameOfficials.net in our area Assignors look to match experience with position and level of play base on a referee s availability & preferences Referees must earn opportunities to work games Assignors do NOT have to assign you games!

25 Assignor Expectations Treat players, coaches, parents & each other with respect Be professional both on and off the field Be to your game 30 minutes early Wear the appropriate uniform, look professional Apply the rules of the game (blow your whistle!) Minimum 48 hr notice on cancellations

26 Assignor Expectations Honor your assignments no turn backs or switching for a better game(s) Inform the assignor of any issues such as: Rough play Another referee does not show up A coach acting like a 2 year old A parent acting like a 2 year old A red card or dismissal

28 Getting Games For the NPSC: All games are considered competitive We offer two seasons: Summer runs May to July Fall runs September to October (Weekends Only)
