NOW HERE S AN INTERESTING RECENT STATEMENT FROM FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER. Have a read of this & see what you think: The FC United of Manchester Board thought fans would like to share our frustration & bemusement at the request we received on Friday 16 Oct 2015 from the BBC, via the FA, to move the kick off time of our FA Cup game v Sporting Khalsa to enable a brand new BBC Mobile Match of The Day Live experience. This latest idea included disruption to the pre-match preparations of club volunteers & the competing teams, interruptions to substitutes warming up & interference with the team managers match management. The FC United Board gave a resounding no to this request. Match-going supporters should not have to be inconvenienced for the benefit of those who rarely, if at all, attend matches. FC United is not intrinsically opposed to the re-arrangement of a fixture time, provided that it meets with the approval of & benefits the respective clubs and their supporters. In 2007, members of FC United voted in favour of entering the FA Cup & acknowledged the competition s rules & TV contracts. That aside, the whole Mobile Match of The Day Live experience should have been canned at inception by any BBC Sports manager with an understanding of the game. As a public service broadcaster, the BBC should be taking a lead by promoting the game without causing additional disruption to match-going supporters instead of trying to ape or outdo some of the worst excesses of their competitors. If BBC viewers would like to understand the fans experience at a football game, there are numerous real life games at every level throughout the country & the easiest way for TV viewers to access the real fans experience is to go along to a match. For a more in depth experience, they could volunteer like many non-league fans do week in and week out. The FA, as the governing body of football in this country, appear to be encouraging ways to cash in on the fans experience whilst treating the supporters as the least important commodity in the game. We call upon the FA to remember that football is a sporting competition & the associated drama comes from the highs & lows of the game itself. It does not reflect well on the custodians of our game that they would devalue the sporting integrity of their flagship competition by encouraging TV presenters to interfere with those in the dugouts or changing rooms when they are working to produce the best competitive elements of the game. Nor should TV have access to substitutes when warming up, because those players are athletes preparing properly to be able to compete at their best. TV exposure & the revenue it generates are important to football. However, we believe that the balance has swung way too far in favour of the TV companies - and too far away from the matchgoing, admission paying, regularly attending football supporter. FC United seeks to change the way that football is owned & run, putting supporters at the heart of everything. This includes a better & more balanced relationship with TV. I COULDN T AGREE MORE WELL DONE FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER FOR PUTTING THE FANS FIRST! FINAL BATCH OF QUICKIES: Must praise The Subs Bench on Made in Bristol TV, it may have made a slow start to its career last season, but it s much better these days & the coverage they give to local non-league football these days is excellent blimey, even our old pal MICKY TANNER was on there the other week. The memories we have of him in a Mango shirt. And having watched Fenerbahce v Ajax on BT Sport recently, you would have thought that co-commentator & ex-manager David Pleat, who s been in the game a long, long time, would know how to say Ajax properly it is NOT Ay-yax, it is Eye-ax. Get it right!...and it s good to hear that the BBC s FA Cup coverage will be better than ever this year, not so much in the later rounds, but more importantly, in the early rounds when the little teams are still in it. THE FIELD MARSHALL FIELD REVIEW -22 It s FA Trophy time and our previously thrilling 4-3 win against Shortwood United has given us a second meeting of the season with BASHLEY FC, who in the last round, overturned the odds to defeat Cinderford Town. That was no mean feat considering that The Foresters 2-1 win against North Leigh last weekend and midweek away win at Swindon Supermarine, has put them top of the table! Not only that, but next week, they will be here!! Now that will be tough! However, our main concern for the moment is The Bash and we extend a warm welcome to the club and their fans and trust that they will have a safe and uneventful return to the New Forest. Now we all know Bashley s league position, but this afternoon, all that flies out of the window, as they, just like us, will be anxious to progress and earn a little extra money. The next round draw takes place on Monday. Ahead of Tuesday s clash with Evesham United, having learned that DAVID MEHEW had left the club, we also received the disappointing news that MARCUS MAPSTONE has joined Frome Town, reuniting with his ex-paulton Rovers boss, Nick Bunyard. Naturally, we wish both of them the best for the future, and thank them for their efforts on our behalf. Certainly not the best preparation against a strong Robins side.there was little between the sides in the opening half-hour although they did have the greater possession and we had not created much. Then a sloppy clearance gave them an easy opportunity, which they added to, for what looked to be a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. LEWIS POWELL pulled a goal back and for a time it did seem as though we might salvage something from the game, but a classy third goal ended our hopes. Although KIERAN PRESTON saved Matt Sysum s 90 th minute penalty, he could do little about the rebound. FIELD REVIEW -1 A 1-4 home reversal does not look good in the record books, but for most of the game we failed to match The Robins intensity and we can hardly argue about the result. Looking ahead, as we said, CINDERFORD TOWN will be here next Saturday, and over the last two campaigns, they have steadily improved and their good start to the season may surprise some, but it s not a great shock. We are due to go to AFC TOTTON on the 14 th, but that will change if we can win this afternoon, as that date is the next round of the FA Trophy. A midweek date at DIDCOT TOWN follows, before BASHLEY are here again! We end the month at BURNHAM, and should I dare to look too far ahead, that is also the 3 rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy! It s great to see an Evo-Stik League Southern side reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, so congratulations to our Division rivals DIDCOT TOWN who have achieved just that and will host EXETER CITY! It will be shown live on BT SPORT! At the same time, congratulations are also in order to Premier Division CHESHAM UNITED for earning themselves a trip to the Memorial Stadium to face BRISTOL ROVERS. That will be an emotional return for 43 year old Barry Hayles, who is currently the Player/Coach for The Generals. Everyone will know by now that THOMMO & LEE resigned following Tuesday s game. Richard Thompson said that after three and a half years in the job, he felt exhausted, but the club are in a great position for someone to move it forward. The Board of Directors wish to thank Thommo and Lee for stabilising the club at a difficult time. Both admitted to enjoying themselves at the club, both as players and Managers. We wish them both the very best for the future. Kieran Preston makes his last appearance for us this afternoon, before returning to Bristol Rovers. Thankyou Kieran and good luck in the future. It really has been an eventful week at Cossham Street. EDITOR

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED Do you have what it takes to help your local Football club? We require additional Bar Staff & Stewards. Ball Boys are also needed Why not have a word with Martin Preedy, or Dave Wyatt behind the bar. WE NEED YOU TO VOLUNTEER Phone: MARTIN ON Find us on Utd Facebook : https/ Official website: mufc-online.co.uk FIELD REVIEW -2 Loads of stuff to say today, so let s crack on: FIRST BATCH OF QUICKIES: Anyone seen Birmingham s away shirt? A red shirt, with one yellow sleeve & side and one black sleeve & side! It is an odd one, that s for sure So where were all the Arsenal fans then? Only 49,824 to see mighty Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Perhaps even the Gooners fans can t afford it any longer, but the German fans certainly voiced their protests and not for the first time either. Some of their fans did not enter the Emirates for the first 5 minutes of the game in protest at the 64 ticket price. The Germans also held up a banner which said, 64 a ticket, but without the fans, football is not worth a penny well said Bayern fans So while we already know that the dearest Arsenal match-day ticket is a mere 97 (!), guess what the CHEAPEST Bayern Munich season ticket costs??? 140. You can also watch Borussia Dortmund for as little as 10. Learn from it Arsenal, the likes of you & Chelsea and others are KILLING the game for the ordinary fan, but in Germany, the clubs there actually CARE about the fans.. And while we were being watched by just 93 fans for our home game v Wimborne Town the other week yes, Champions League football was on TV & Bristol Rovers at home as well I noticed that in the Toolstation League, Odd Down had just 37 for their 5-3 win v Longwell Green, whilst Bishop Sutton were watched by just TWENTY ONE people against Chard Town. And we thought we had problems! How does a club survive when just 21 fans turn up? IT S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL!! Just two things today: (1) BE PREPARED!! The weather men tell us that we could be in for our coldest Christmas for 5 years, that we could have a White Christmas with temperatures down to -16 degrees & there are reports that we could get 36 days of snow & ice! But the big question is will this all happen in Bristol?? It may well happen up north, but down here?? We have had a few mild winters these past few years, with just the occasional cold snap & snow flurry here & there, and certainly, really bad winters like that of don t happen any more, or will the coming winter prove to be the exception?? Will football be decimated as well? More than likely, unless we all end up playing back-to-back games at either Oaklands Park or Keynsham Town!! Time will tell in the long run whether this is all a load of scaremongering or whether we will actually get a bad winter for once (2) WHATEVER HAPPENED TO FRENCHAY?? Recently, a younger family member suffered a fall downstairs, banged his head & ended up in the BRI, where he was given a head scan. The doctor told us all in attendance that the findings of the head scan would be sent to AUSTRALIA (!) for analysis & then we d get the results back within the hour. And that s exactly what happened! Years ago, Frenchay Hospital would analyse things like head scans, but now it s all ed to Australia & they deal with it! Fortunately, for our young family member, no serious damage was found by the Down Under version of Dr Feelgood & he was able to go home a few hours later. Strewth! SECOND BATCH OF QUICKIES: Now I m always impressed by the lengths fans go to in getting to their team s distant away matches & that applies at all levels of the game, but well done to the 130 Exeter City fans who watched their team lose 1-0 at Carlisle the other week. That was one heck of a journey! The Exeter coaches left at 6am on the Saturday morning & didn t get home until nearly midnight. Only 37 for members as well an expensive day out as well as a long one, and this is League 2, remember And is that right that only ONE Bristol City player went over to applaud the 600 City fans who went to Brighton the other week?? And the only other player who applauded them was Brighton s ex-city striker Sam Baldock??... Meanwhile, there s talk that England could play some future home games away from Wembley, following the FA re-financing their loans on Wembley. Not a bad idea, I suppose, but if they did play here at MUFC, then we d need to do a few more programmes than we do now.and some headlines just stand out & make you snigger, don t they? Like the one on the BBC website recently, which was all about women s football, and said, Fishlock considered quitting Wales. Fish? Wales? Or should that be Whales?...And it was sad to hear recently that Ajax & Barcelona maestro Johan Cruyff has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Hang in there, Cruyffie, you can beat it.. The Supporters Club would like to thank him for all the hard work he has put in over the last season or so and he was obvious a connection to Gloucester City and those ex-tigers who play for us. Thanks Boris. FIELD REVIEW -18 THE clocks have turned back and the nights are drawing in. The floodlights are on by half time and the pitches are showing early signs of wear and tear. So it s about time we look back at some of the memorable moments from around the Non-League scene so far this season. Here at NLP HQ, we are always reminiscing. Whether it be failed England World Cup attempts (pick your sport), or wonder goals from years gone by. But this season, we haven t had to look back very far to see some stunning strikes. Long-range finishes seem to be the order of the season with Bradley Bubb, Scott Davies and James Poole all netting from distance over the past three months and instantly becoming YouTube hits. Bubb didn t take long to get everyone talking. The opening weekend of the National League South campaign saw the new Oxford City man score on debut. That doesn t tell half the story though. We ve all tried it in the park on a Sunday morning, and for Bubb it paid off. Oxford had just conceded to go 2-1 down against Chelmsford City, and the 27-year-old got his name on the scoresheet in spectacular fashion, striking an audacious effort straight from kick-off. The ball dipped, clipping the crossbar on its way in and clearly surprising Clarets goalkeeper Ashley Timms who, despite a desperate dive, could not claw the ball away. But while it may have surprised Timms, Oxford captain Darren Pond wasn t so shocked. Pond said: It was funny actually because Fozzy (Oxford City goalkeeping coach Alan Foster) said to me about shooting from the halfway line. I told him I can t kick it that far, so I had to tell Brad to do it and he couldn t have hit it any better to be fair. And while Bubb s effort was almost dead on the halfway line, Wealdstone s Davies went one better. In fact, he went about 20 yards better. With the Stones already leading Brockenhurst 3-1 in the FA Cup third qualifying round, a free-kick from Brockenhurst keeper Callum Maher, landed kindly at the feet of Davies, midway inside his own half. After taking a touch and lifting his head to see Maher still rushing back, Davies went for goal. Yes, it was an open goal, but from 70 yards, it s not easy to hit the target. For a moment, it looked like the 27-year-old s effort may bounce over the bar. As it was, it bounced just before the goal line and nestled into the net. The FA Cup has been full of goals, and just two weeks after Davies effort, Poole got out his best David Beckham impression in front of some of the former England captain s team mates to send his Salford City side through to the FA Cup first round. Poole netted from just inside his own half, to the delight of City co-owners Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, as the Step 3 Ammies shocked National League side Southport. There will undoubtedly be some more screamers over the next six months, and whoever follows Sean Geddes, who scored with an audacious rabona attempt last season, to pick up our National Game Award for goal of the season is sure to have wowed all. Have we missed any great strikes? Let me know joshua.peck@greenwayspublishing.com Joshua Peck FIELD REVIEW -5

LOOKING BACK AT THE ROVERS BRISTOL ROVERS We are taking a nostalgic look back at a Bristol Rovers campaign, but this one in particular does have a special feel of Mangotsfield United about it. At this time, PHIL BATER was manager at the Memorial Ground, the front cover featured two players who would later play for the Mangos, ROBBIE CLARIDGE & MARK SMITH and with the game being against Northampton Town, a certain DAVID SEAL was in the Cobblers side. All three players made their debut for us in our first Southern League season, 2000/01. Also on Rovers book at that time were, JON FRENCH & GARY PENRICE. Before a gate of 6,535, the Cobblers won 2-0 keeping them in fourth place in the table whilst Rovers were 7 th. It was mentioned in the excellent Rovers programme The Pirate that SEAL had gone on loan to Northampton from Bristol City, and JOHN WARD, who was then the Robins manager at that time, made the astonishing decision to allow him to play against the City, and of course, you ve guessed it, he scored the only goal of the game! CLARIDGE & SMITH together with Luke Basford & James French had been given either 6 months or one year deals, in the hope that they could make the grade as professionals. Interesting comments from PHIL BATER in his programme notes when he says.. Even though my touchline ban is over, I ve continued watching games from the stand as it s given me a different perspective on things Barry Hayles has come in for some close attention recently, and as a defender myself, I think he s there to be kicked, because that s what it s all about!! Rovers line-up: 1. Lee Jones, 2. Dave Pritchard, 3. Graeme Power, 4. Ian Holloway, 5.Steve Foster, 6. Andy Tillson, 7. Frankie Bennett, 8. Tom Ramasut, 9. Peter Beadle, 10. Jamie Cureton, 11. Barry Hayles, Subs: Josh Low (Bennett) Lee Zabek (Ramasut). At the end of the season, Northampton finished 4 th & Rovers 5 th and they met in the two-legged playoff. Rovers won the home game 3-1, but crashed alarmingly at Sixfields by 0-3 and so The Cobblers went to Wembley on a 4-3 aggregate, but lost the final 0-1 to Grimsby Town. They had been promoted the previous season, also from the play-offs. FIELD REVIEW -6 FIELD REVIEW -17

HALF-TIME TRIVIA NEW BASHLEY SPONSORSHIP DEALS DID YOU KNOW? The tools we use to write and record with, have been part of everyday life throughout the ages, and yet we still rely on the most basic of stationery to get us through our daily tasks, and keep in touch. A new book called Adventures in stationery tells us all we need to know! PENCILS started out as artist s brushes which were made from the hairs of animal tails. Back in 1884, Massachusetts Paper Mill worker, Thomas Holley bound scrap pices of paper together, and the writing pad was born. The BIRO was invented by Laszio Biro, the son of a Hungarian dentist. He got his inspiration after watching kids play marbles in the street and he noticed that when a marble went through a puddle, it left a wet trail. The wire gem PAPERCLIP was first introduced in Britain in the early 1870s and came from Samuel B. Fay s invention of a bent wire clip, which he patented in MARCEL BIC launched the BIC cristal pen in France, in He based the design on a traditional wooden pencil. The DRAWING PIN was invented by German watchmaker, Johann Kirsten between 1902/03. He used a simple straight pin to hold down his drawings while he worked, but the head came away when pressure was applied, so his brother Otto solved the problem by adding the flat head. In 1963, Japanese company Ohto developed the ROLLERBALL, a ballpoint which uses a waterbased ink rather than oil-based. Chemist Spencer Silver created the first sticky paper reminder called, The Press n Peel Note in 1977 but it failed in trials. The company 3M relaunched it in 1980 as the POST-IT NOTE and it became an International commercial success. The first fountain-pen was patented by by Peregrine Williamson in Baltimore in 1809 his patent was called a metallic writing pen. GENUINE SIGNS SEEN IN THE UK Seen during a Conference FOR ANYONE WHO HAS CHILDREN AND DOESN T KNOW IT, THERE IS A DAYCARE ON THE FIRST FLOOR. Notice in a farmer s field THE FARMER ALLOWS WALKERS TO CROSS THE FIELD FOR FREE, BUT THE BULL CHARGES! On a repair shop door WE CAN REPAIR ANYTHING. (PLEASE KNOCK HARD ON THE DOOR THE BELL DOESN T WORK). And finally, ANOTHER JOKE OF THE WEEK.. What s the difference between STRESS, TENSION & PANIC? STRESS is when your Wife is pregnant. TENSION is when your girlfriend is pregnant. And PANIC is when both are pregnant!! 12 Continued.. MANGOTSFIELD UNITED fans of a certain age, may well recall a visit to BASHLEY way back in That was the year we won the Western League Championship, and The Bash were in the Southern League Premier Division, having won promotion from the Southern Division, the previous season. The FA Cup-tie saw us draw 2-2 with the New Milton side at Cossham Street our goals coming from Jimmy Wring and Martin Boyle. GLEN CAMBRIDGE, more renowned for his local cricketing prowess, made his one and only Mangotsfield appearance between the sticks, as MARK STEVENS was on holiday. The replay at the Recreation Ground, with Mark Stevens back in goal, saw The Field winning 3-1 with three minutes of normal time remaining. Had Barry Taylor not then missed a spot-kick, we would have been through, but two very late goals from Bashley took the game into extra-time. In an explosive extra thirty minutes, The Bash scored three more to win 6-3. Our goals came from a Martin Boyle hattrick *On a sad note, we heard on the weekend that our one-time Secretary, & programme Editor, FRANK LEWORTHY had passed away on the 17 th October, aged 87. The Funeral is to be held on Monday 2 nd November 2015 at Westerleigh Crematorium at 1.45pm. Black or Club ties to be worn please. Family Flowers only and any donations in leiu for MacMillan Cancer support can be sent to Roy Preddy Funeral Directors, at Mangotsfield. Tel: He leaves his wife Barbara, son Mark and daughter Jane and their families. It was Frank who was responsible for me being our Programme Editor. He was obviously steering me in the right direction when he invited me to go to his house to watch his preparations for every match. A far cry from 1988 to now. It s all down to Frank that you are reading this programme now although someone would have done it, I suppose. Thanks for the memories Frank. EVO-STIK LEAGUE ACTION MIDWEEK The Puritans of Banbury United, defeated Didcot Town 2-1 With Ricky Johnson again on the scoresheet, whilst Taunton Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Bishops Cleeve. Mangotsfield United found The Robins of Evesham United a little too hot to handle, losing 1-4 at Cossham Street and falling to 15 th place in the table. Adam Mann bagged a hat-trick for The Robins Bashley were crushed 5-0 at Marlow, this being 61 goals that they have conceded in 14 league games. At Meadowbank, Shortwood United moved into 3 rd place with Jake Lee grabbing another brace for The Wood, whilst The Bluebells Alex Fiddes scored his 5 th goal in the last two games. Cinderford Town maintained their top placing with a superb 2-0 away victory at Swindon Supermarine, whilst second placed North Leigh went down 1-2 at home to the improving Winchester City, for whom Glasspool and Bentley added to their goalscoring tally. Larkhall Athletic and Bridgwater Town shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Plain Ham. JOKES OF THE WEEK A young boy asks his dad, What is the difference between confident and confidential? His dad replies, You are my son, I m confident about that Your friend over there, is also my son, that s confidential God made man before woman, so as to give man time to think of an answer for her first question. FIELD REVIEW -8 THESE YOUNG PLAYERS ARE OUR FUTURE. IF WE HANDLE THEM LIKE HORSES, THEN WE GET HORSES. The words of new Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, as quoted on the BBC website on 21 October 2015, after he complained that Anfield youngster Jordan Rossiter had played in no less than 3 Under-19 qualifying internationals in just 6 days & was now out injured until mid-november. Blimey, Herr Klopp, I wonder what you ll think of our hectic, typically British Christmas & New Year schedule of games then? THEIR KEEPER, DAVID STOCKDALE, HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT FOR BRIGHTON AND THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT OUR TEAM. SOME OF OUR FOOTBALL WAS EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS BRIGHTON S. The words of Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill, as quoted on the BBC website on 21 October 2015, after the Robins narrowly lost 2-1 at Championship leaders Brighton. City were unlucky at Brighton, no question. They led early on, only to succumb to 2 second half goals from the hosts, who were also able to bring on a powerful impact Premier League sub like Bobby Zamora to clinch the game late on. That s been the big learning curve for City so far this season. Every other side seems to have strength in depth (parachute payments help in some cases of course!) & it s all about taking your chances when you get them. City failed to take any more of their chances at Brighton & ultimately paid the price & that s happened a fair few times so far this season. If truth be told, it is now all just about staying up. Fortunately, most fans have now stopped going on about it being early days in the season because you can t say anything is early-season when it s the end of October & a quarter of the campaign is already gone. City must muddle through with what they have now until the transfer window opens in January; they must stay out of the bottom three as best they can & then they can see who s available in January, because they will need to invest! CLAUDIO RANIERI S GIVEN ME THE LICENCE TO ROAM FREE UP FRONT AND DO WHAT I AM GOOD AT, WHICH IS QUICK PRESSING AND QUICK COUNTERS. The words of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, as quoted in The Sun on 22 October 2015, as he explained why Leicester have impressed everyone so far this season, in that during training, the Foxes Italian manager is in charge & gets his message across as to what he wants his players to do on the pitch but when they get on to the pitch, it s all down to the players to put Ranieri s tactics into operation. It s always good to see an unfashionable side doing well in the Premier League, especially at the expense of one of the bigger clubs, and I just hope that Leicester can last the pace & not burn themselves out. In Jamie Vardy, they have a player who has worked his way up the leagues & who has now got himself into the England set-up. Vardy must SURELY be a cert for France 2016, based on his current form & goal-scoring record & I hope Uncle Roy gives him a lot of game time in England s forthcoming friendlies, because he ll be fairly unknown around Europe at the moment & he could well be a surprise package for us. WHAT A FABULOUS FINISH, JUST AN INCH INSIDE THE FAR POST. HE IS A FANTASTIC PLAYERS AND IS WORTH EVERY PENNY OF THAT 54m FEE. The words of ex-manchester City defender Danny Mills, as quoted in The Sun on 22 October 2015, as he sang the praises of Kevin De Bruyne, who netted City s late winner in the 2-1 Champions League win v Seville. De Bruyne s a very good player, even if he does only look about 15, but I m sorry, 54m for kicking a ball around is just an obscene amount of money for any footballer. Of course, figures like that are just chicken-feed for a club like Man City & their wealthy Middle East owners, but for the Ordinary Fan In The Street, it s just a figure beyond comprehension. But in fairness to Man City, they do have a lot of relatively cheap season tickets, so that you don t have to be as rich as an Arab sheikh to be able to get into the Etihad whereas if you go to the likes of Arsenal & Chelsea, the only ones who can afford to go there are your corporate types & your weekends away trippers, who get a match ticket as part of a weekend package. Years ago, my old Dad used to go to Chelsea games as part of a works day trip up the Smoke. Wouldn t happen now! FIELD REVIEW -15

MEET THE. PLAYER WHY ARE PEOPLE SO SURPRISED WHEN MANCHESTER UNITED LOSES A GAME AGAINST PSV? IT ISN T SUCH A SHOCK. YOU HAVE TO KNOW THAT THE OTHER TEAMS ARE ALSO GOOD. MANY BIG CLUBS HAVE LOST AT PSV. THEY WERE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS ONCE IN YOU CAN ALSO LOSE IN ZAGREB, AS ARSENAL DID. IT WAS A MAJOR SURPRISE, THE WHOLE OF CROATIA WAS SURPRISED, BUT IT CAN HAPPEN. THEY DO PLAY FOOTBALL THERE AS WELL, YOU KNOW. THEY ARE A DECENT TEAM, UNBEATEN IN 41 GAMES OR WHATEVER IT IS. FOR YOU, IT WAS PROBABLY A SHOCK WHEN MY OLD CLUB BESIKTAS KNOCKED OUT LIVERPOOL LAST YEAR. FOR US, IT WASN T. The words of West Ham boss Slaven Bilic, as quoted on the BBC website on 18 September 2015, as he looked back at the reasons why Man Utd, Man City & Arsenal all lost to European opposition a day or so earlier. His main belief was that English clubs regularly under-estimate foreign sides. NAME NICKNAME TWITTER NAME WHAT WAS THE LAST MEAL YOU COOKED STEVE DAVIES DAVO N/A Curry I think there s some truth in that statement, plus the fact that English fans EXPECT our Top 4 clubs to do well in Europe every single season, but it just doesn t happen like that. For a start, the term English clubs is hardly fitting they are all run by foreign owners & managers & most of the players these days are foreign, but as fans, there is still an air of expectancy among us when it comes to the Champions League. It s as though it s automatically suspected that we ll have at least 2 clubs in the semi-finals, but that hasn t happened much lately & that s partly down to the fact that teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid & Bayern Munich are still streets ahead of anything we have to offer. But perhaps Gary Lineker has the answer: OUR CLUBS ESPECIALLY THE TOP CLUBS COMPLETELY KILL THEMSELVES IN THE CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR PERIOD WITH THE MADNESS OF OUR FIXTURES. BOXING DAY AND NEW YEAR S DAY; OK, DO THOSE, BUT WHY THE MIDDLE SATURDAY IN BETWEEN? GET RID OF THAT ONE AND ALSO GET RID OF ALL REPLAYS IN CUP COMPETITIONS. YOU GET TO FEBRUARY AND ALL THE OTHER MAJOR COUNTRIES HAVE HAD A BREAK, BUT OUR CLUBS JUST KEEP ON GOING ALL THROUGH JANUARY. YOU COULD SEE IT WITH CHELSEA LAST SEASON. THEY ARE A BETTER SIDE THAN PSG, BUT THEY JUST LOOKED SHATTERED. Well, that s what Lineker said in The Sun on 15 September FAVOURITE BAND ONE DIRECTION FAVOURITE FILM Shaving Ryan s Privates!! TRAINING HATE IT or LOVE IT? Hate it!! WHAT PLAYER DID YOU PRETEND TO BE WHEN GROWING UP? David Mehew WHICH PROFESSIONAL TEAM DO YOU SUPPORT AND WHY? Swansea City My home town He s right, of course. Europe puts its feet up for a couple of weeks every January, & then starts again with a friendly or two, but our clubs just keep on playing league & cup matches in that time & the schedule never stops, unless affected by the weather. Trouble is, we re traditionalists in this country & we love our doses of football over the Christmas/New Year period, whilst most of the country takes 2 weeks off work & generally loses track of what day it is. We always know when it s a football day though! But will we ever change as Gary Lineker suggested? Probably not. HE ISN T A SOUTHERNER, HE S A NORTHERNER. THAT ATTRACTED ME TO HIM. The words of (now former) Leeds United boss Uwe Rosler, as quoted in The Sun on 28 September 2015, as he explained why Sunderland winger Will Buckley arrived at Elland Road on loan. Thing is, Uwe, there s northerners and there s northerners! Perhaps, knowing which county Leeds is in might help a bit! Rosler might just also need to freshen up his knowledge on the Wars of the Roses as well, seeing as Buckley comes from Oldham on t other side t Pennines!!! WE RE BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE, WE RE NOT PICKING UP ANY POINTS AT ALL AND WE RE NOT PUTTING IN THE PERFORMANCES THAT I M HOPING THEY CAN DO. The cheesed-off words of Blackpool boss Neil McDonald, as he reflected on his team s 2-0 defeat at Shrewsbury. You would have thought that Neil McDonald might have said the performances that I know they re capable of rather than the performances I m HOPING that they can do!! That last bit just sounds a little bit desperate, doesn t it, given the dreadful time Blackpool have had these past few years. Those heady days in the Premier League are just like a past dream now! But at least the Tangerines perked up in their very next game, earning a great 2-0 win v highly-rated Chesterfield.. FIELD REVIEW -14 DO YOU HAVE ANY SUPERSTITIONS PRIOR TO A GAME? Sniffing smelling salts BIGGEST GROUND YOU HAVE EVER PLAYED AT: - Molyneaux IF THERE IS ONE FOOTBALL RULE YOU WOULD CHANGE, WHICH WOULD IT BE? - No Football Boxing Day or New Year s Day. Have an Xmas break! STEVE DAVIES MIDFIELD (DOB 27/4/1989) Steve joined the club from Cirencester Town in June 2014, for whom he has had two spells. First joined them in 2008 from Afan Lido. He had a loan spell with Forest Green Rovers, but was previously with Gloucester City in Conference North. 14 THE FA.COM The following notice has been sent to the Premier League, Football League, National League, Isthmian league, Northern Premier League and Southern League clubs. DISCRIMINATORY CHANTING All clubs were advised in August 2014 of a change to FA Rule E21 affecting FA Rule E20 cases, which are proven to be discriminatory in nature. You are reminded that, as a result of this rule change, if a club s supporters should commit discriminatory acts at a football match, and The FA issues a disciplinary charge, the matter is one of strict liability should the alleged conduct be found to have occurred. With 2014/15 being the first season since the rule change, The FA has carefully monitored any reported incidents during 2014/15. This monitoring process has revealed that there were a small number of reported instances of discriminatory conduct by supporters which in other circumstances may have resulted in an E20 charge. In particular, clubs should be aware that the discriminatory conduct complained of, tended to refer to the behaviour of a relatively significant number of supporters which resulted in such chants and/or songs being audible to a large number of people. Discriminatory chanting referenced a number of the protected characteristics, such as sex, disability and sexual orientation. Following a general review of such cases, The FA has issued a number of formal warnings to the clubs concerned. However, going forward, The FA wishes to make it explicit to all that clubs should be aware that from this coming season, reported acts of discriminatory conduct by a club s supporters, including the type of examples referred to above, are highly likely to lead to formal disciplinary action under the FA Rule E20. In light of the above, we strongly urge clubs to continue to be proactive in taking all necessary steps to eradicate such behaviour from our football stadia. Guidance on dealing with discriminatory chanting is available in Crowd Management: The FA Good Practice Guide, which has been circulated to clubs and is also available via the following link underneath the Resources section. As a guide to clubs, this is the following criteria that will be applied by The FA when dealing with the type of cases set out below. E20 cases (Discriminatory crowd matters) FA Rule E20: (p.126 Handbook) Each Affiliated Association, Competition and Club shall be responsible for ensuring: That its directors, players, officials, employees, servants, representatives, spectators, and all persons purporting to be its supporters or followers, conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and refrain from any one, or combination of, the following: Racist, violent, threatening, abusive, obscene or provocative behaviour, conduct or language, whilst attending at, or taking part in a Match in which it is involved, whether on its own ground or elsewhere. Thank you for your attendance & for buying this programme. Well, for a start, I m writing this page well in advance of today s game because of half-term holidays, and as I type, we ve still got Slimbridge away & Evesham at home coming up, so you can see it s going to be just a tad difficult to talk about those games because they haven t actually happened yet but they will have by the time you read this! ANYWAY, BASHLEY MAKE THE FIRST OF TWO VISITS to Cossham Street in the space of 3 weeks (they return here on 21 November in league action), but today, it s all about the FA Trophy & the chance to make further progress in these qualifiers. We know that The Bash are again having a dreadful season in the league, but that goes right of the window today because we are mindful that they beat CINDERFORD in the last Trophy qualifier, which is no mean feat! There is no way that we will be under-estimating them today, so please give Our Boys all your support as we strive to pick up the win, the prize money & a place in the next round COME ON THE FIELD! LOOKING AROUND THE SOUTHERN LEAGUE, the West Country clubs in general are not having an easy time of it at the moment. OK, CHIPPENHAM TOWN are in the play-offs in the Premier Division, but our old friends at FROME TOME, BIDEFORD & PAULTON ROVERS are all struggling & battling against relegation. They ve all been in that division for a few seasons now, but is it all catching up with them now, all those trips to Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & such like? BIDEFORD surely have the worst of the travelling though, with everything seeming like a million miles away from up there in North Devon. PAULTON s managerial duo of Richard Fey & Nathan Rudge both resigned from their posts on 21 October, with Rovers rock-bottom of that division at the time. I know that when we had 4 seasons in the SL Premier Division back in the Noughties, it was always hard to maintain that level of football, for all sorts of reasons & now it looks like our 3 old friends are finding the task just as hard as we did years ago. Could all 3 of them get relegated next May? AND WHAT OF OUR OWN SOUTH & WEST DIVISION?? Well, there are mixed fortunes so far for many of the sides we know of old. TAUNTON & TIVERTON are both handily placed around the playoffs, whilst BRIDGWATER are struggling right now. Our Bluebell rivals up at YATE TOWN are, shall we say, handily-placed at present, but the surprise team of the season so far has to be BISHOPS CLEEVE, who are vastly improved from the struggling side of last season. That leaves a certain MUFC & yes, we know we have not really clicked this term often enough. We ve got a good, strong set of players here at Cossham Street, but and let s be honest the two things that describe us best so far this season are INCONSISTENT & UNDER-ACHIEVING. If we could crack those 2 issues, then we d be absolutely flying but there is still a heck of a lot of football to be played this term & who s to say we can t become more consistent in the weeks & months to come? A few wins in a row can work wonders within the team & our league position would change almost overnight. DON T FORGET THAT WE ARE AT HOME AGAIN NEXT SATURDAY (7 th ) when we take on promotion-seeking CINDERFORD TOWN. Beat them & people will surely sit up & take notice!
