3 SECRETARY S REPORT This afternoon, for the second Saturday running, we welcome everyone from Rothes FC to Harlaw Park, Inverurie. If the game has gone on this afternoon it is because of a massive snow clearing operation this morning and we are grateful to everyone who turned up and lent a hand. Wednesday s match against Brora Rangers was called off due to extreme weather conditions but to our delight Arthur, The Locos Groundsman, found the pitch to be soft under the snow hence today s operation. After last week s League Cup match it is back to League business today as we attempt to rake up enough points to win the Championship and enter the play-offs which commence on Saturday 21st April. Judging by what we saw last week Rothes will make it very tough for us today. We were kept at bay until almost half-time and it was a penalty which broke the deadlock. We did take total control after the break and ran out worthy winners which earned us a trip to Forres next Saturday to face the Can Cans in the next round. John juggled the side about last week and I am sure he will do likewise today as he aims to keep all the lads fresh as we enter a particularly hectic spell. On the plus side we also have Sam Burnett approaching full fitness again so that will be like having a new addition to the Squad. Last week also saw us lift the Morrison Motors Turriff Aberdeenshire Shield for the first time in about ten years. As expected the Dee put up a good challenge but our greater experience told in the end. Weather permitting we are back here again on Wednesday night to face Nairn County in another of our pick- up matches. Enjoy today s match. Duncan Little Club Secretary

8 JOHN S VIEWS Today we welcome Rothes for a home league game at Harlaw Park, Inverurie. Our scheduled home game against Brora Rangers was postponed here midweek due to the snow. Without any further postponements, completing the season of fixtures remaining is now proving to be a real challenge. Last Saturday s League Cup game against Rothes was another tough encounter. Although we managed to progress by virtue of a 4-1 victory, the game itself was finely poised at halftime with Jonny Smith s penalty being the solitary goal separating the sides. Two goals by Paul McManus in the first eight minutes of the second half before Rothes struck back and a Conor Scully strike two minutes from time sealed the victory. On Saturday, the boys that came into the side performed really well and as we approach the business end of the season, full utilisation of the squad will be required so all the players will need to be ready when called upon. With midweek-saturday games as a minimum now existing until the end of the season, we ll need some good fortune with injuries, suspensions and the weather. 11 VIEW FROM THE BOARDROOM Today we welcome all directors, committee, players and supporters from Rothes to Inverurie for our scheduled home league tie. Having faced each other in the Breedon League Cup last Saturday, we are very familiar with today s opponents. Back to back games against the same opposition are never ideal and although we won the game 4-1, we know how dangerous Rothes can be as they held us to a 1-1 draw earlier in the season. It took a stoppage time goal from Eric Watson to salvage a point. The weather is proving to be a real problem now as games are getting called off due to frost and more recently, snow. There s not much we can do about the weather but we just hope for a kinder run in as we approach the final months of the season. The demands on part time players are high nowadays anyway but when you factor in potential three game a week scenario at venues that are not exactly local, it places added stress on everyone. However, most clubs in our league are in the same position. Moving onto an important development off the park where we are delighted to announce the appointment of Angela Bruce as fulltime Commercial Manager. Angela is truly a gem of an appointment when you look at her character and history. She was a key employee with Aberdeen Football Club since April 2001 where initially her remit was to sell hospitality, sponsorship and advertising packages. Over the years the product range expanded and diversified where Angela ultimately ended up being appointed as the Commercial Team Leader in December However, with the recent re-structuring of the Commercial Department at Aberdeen Football Club, Angela has decided to move onto pastures new. Her eagerness, excitement and desire to join Cove Rangers Football Club has been impressive from the offset. This is underpinned professionally by an extensive contacts database and personal desire to deliver the best product and experience possible which places the club perfectly to maximise commercial opportunities as we look towards moving into our new home, Balmoral Stadium. This is very much a marquee appointment for the club as someone with Angela s skillset of being highly experienced in both business development and corporate account management is indeed unique. When you further consider a sales career spanning over 30-years and her involvement with Aberdeen Football Club for the past 17-years, the appointment is truly outstanding and positions the club for future growth. This will unquestionably bring a new dimension and way of thinking to our football club. Angela quoted It s almost like the stars have aligned for me! Knowing this industry and market place as I do, having a large network of contacts and a new stadium on the horizon, it s safe to say I will hit the ground running. I d like to thank the Board for their trust in me and I can assure everyone associated with CRFC that I won t let anyone down. 20 On This Day in Scottish Football 3rd March IT HAPPENED TODAY 1877 Scotland beat England 3-1 at Kennington Oval in London in the sixth fixture between the countries, two of which were drawn and three won by the Scots. No fewer than six of the Scotland team made their international debuts and one of them, James Richmond of Clydesdale opened the scoring. John Ferguson of Vale of Leven, a comparative veteran of four internationals, opened the scoring and scored the third goal four minutes from time. Alfred Lyttleton, an Old Etonian, scored for England. The Scots team was drawn from Dumbreck, Rangers, Clydesdale, Mauchline, Vale of Leven (with three players) and Queen s Park (with four) The Perthshire FA beat Forfarshire 8-3 art Balhousie Park, Perth 1906 Scotland lost 2-0 to Wales in a Home International match at Tynecastle, watched by 26,000.
