2 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION Located in Greater Manchester, Hyde United is a semi-professional football club that plays in the Northern Premier League Division One North, the eighth tier of English football. Enjoying a successful start to the 2017/18 season, the club recently reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time since Hyde started using PLAYERTEK in 2017 in an effort to further professionalise the club s approach to training and athlete monitoring. We recently visited the team at their Ewen Fields stadium to find out how the technology is being used to inform and improve performance.

4 THE ASSISTANT MANAGER Gaining An Edge A former player who made over 300 appearances for York City, David McGurk has been the Assistant Manager at Hyde United since June Working with Manager Darren Kelly to gain an edge over opponents in their division, David has been impressed with the way PLAYERTEK has improved levels of analysis at the club without breaking the bank.

5 At Hyde we re trying to run as professional setup as we can. We can t afford what the big boys have got, but we want to get as close as possible. DAVID MCGURK, ASSISTANT MANAGER

6 THE ASSISTANT MANAGER Tailored Preparation In his role as Assistant Manager, David is responsible for planning and taking training sessions, as well as being a major contributor to the team selection process. Since adopting the PLAYERTEK system, he s found that the metrics it provides have been an important tool in managing the training cycle and ensuring that players are preparing for specific match demands.

7 As Assistant Manager [the system] provides me with the information that I need to plan sessions. It s given us a good basis in terms of going into games, with the right schedule for training on a Tuesday and Thursday. DAVID MCGURK, ASSISTANT MANAGER

8 THE ASSISTANT MANAGER An Objective View One of the key figures in driving the implementation of PLAYERTEK at Hyde, David uses the data to bring an objective view to the training process and create bespoke plans for players as the club closely monitors training intensity and player workload.

9 [The data] helps in terms of leaving players out and in terms of training in the next session. We can bring the intensity down slightly for certain individuals and vice versa, if someone hasn t covered enough distance we can increase intensity for the next session. 11 THE CAPTAIN Performance Development An experienced defender, Paddy Miller joined Hyde United in December 2016 and was immediately made club captain. Named as player of the season in his first campaign, Paddy has been central to Hyde s success and has found PLAYERTEK to be a valuable tool for monitoring and developing his own performance.

13 THE CAPTAIN Managing Workload As Hyde have integrated PLAYERTEK into the training and matchday cycle, Paddy has started to use the available metrics to understand the physical demands of his game and how statistics can help to manage workload and mitigate against injury.

14 [Stats] like the heat map and workload are massive. I know that the staff tailor training based on the workload that we had in previous training and games, and that helps to prevent injuries. PADDY MILLER, CAPTAIN

15 THE CAPTAIN Engaging with Data Paddy s experience with the system shows how GPS technology can transform the way an athlete understands performance and highlights the value of engaging players with performance data on both a team and individual level.

17 THE ANALYST Presenting Insights Currently studying for a degree in Sports Science at the University of Salford, Shailesh Pindoria was appointed as Head of Performance Analysis at Hyde United in June Using PLAYERTEK to capture key insights and present them back to coaches and players, Shailesh has found the technology to be a powerful tool for informing the coaching process and supplementing the knowledge of the staff with objective information.
