2 WELCOME HISTORY OF THE CSSL CANTERBURY SUNDAY SOCCER LEAGUE The Canterbury Sunday Soccer League was founded in 1974 by David Bolam-Smith when the inaugural Bolam Cup was played between the eight teams in the League. The top four teams at the end of the Sunday League Season went through to the semi-finals of the Bolam Cup. The final that year was played at Denton Oval in Hornby between Whitcoulls and Christchurch Star with Whitcoulls claiming victory and the first Bolam Cup title. In recent history, the Bolam Cup has been contested for by the highest ranked teams in each club via knock out cup rounds through-out the season. The CSSL Trophy is contested for by all other teams from the clubs also during knock out cup rounds throughout the season. As well as the Cup rounds each division plays two rounds from which a winner is found firstly on points from wins and secondly form the goal point difference if two teams are drawn. WHERE: WHEN: WHO: Elmwood Pub, 1 Normans Road Monday 26 November 2018, 7.00 pm. A representative from each CSSL club must attend, otherwise clubs will be fined. The CSSL has been a fantastic competition for over 40 years which is reflected by the number of teams that participate year after year. We hope you enjoy today s matches. President Secretary Treasurer 2018 COMMITTEE Jamie Stewart Sheridan Cattermole Murray Ralfs Keith Heather Pete Cattermole Rob Munro Regan Ramsay John Boal 2018 Awards Night The 2018 Awards night will be held on Saturday, 15 September at the Linfield Sports Club (56 Kearneys Rd). It has been another great year of Sunday League football and I wish to personally thank those of you who have given up time to make our league possible. This day is about the cup finals, but also a celebration of our whole league. The efforts of the many volunteers who do all the things required to allow us all to play football every Sunday can go unnoticed, so thank you from all of us to all of you. I would like to especially extend a big thank you to all the referees who officiate our games every week. This year we have focused on respect toward our referees, both official and team-based. It can be a thankless job in trying circumstances, and we all are responsible for creating an environment where we can all play in a fair and enjoyable manner. Our first game is the CSSL Trophy. This will be an interesting matchup. On paper Division 1 vs Division 4 would seem like a straight forward win for Glenbyre C, who finished 3rd in Division 1 and are defending champions. However Universities D won Division 4 with 15 wins from 15 and they scored more than 100 goals in the process. Good luck to both teams in what is an unpredictable game. The Bolam Cup this year sees last year s runners-up Fiji Rovers try to go one better against Universities A. Both teams finished second in their respective divisions but only one will be able to claim the trophy to cap off a successful season. I would like to congratulate all of our division winners this year, and to all those who played the game this year with respect and fair-play. I look forward to seeing everyone at the annual prize-giving to celebrate our league and our achievements. Jamie Stewart CSSL President 10 3
