2 WELCOME There is no better way to start the 2018 Chatham cup than a local derby. A big warm welcome to the Western Suburbs team, coaching staff and supporters. Welcome back to Redwood Park. As always with two neighbouring sides the battle will be hotly contested. With some help from the weather gods, we might get a break in the weather to allow both teams to play the fantastic football we know they can. Tawa hasn t had the best start to the season but it feels like we are just a touch or two away from setting Capital Premier grade alight. The young and enthusiastic squad need little encouragement; so let s hope that starts this weekend! Wests have had an ok start with a record in the Central League and currently sitting fourth will pose a very real threat to Tawa. It is well known the capabilities of clubs like Wests. Is it too much to ask for Tawa to beat both the 1st and 2nd teams from the same club within 6 weeks? In a derby like this anything can happen. What I can be sure of is regardless of weather, both teams will come out with intensity and ready for a battle. It will all be left on the field. Go Well Tawa and bring us back that Chatham Cup W. 6 MATCH REPORTS MATCH REPORTS PYTHONS vs KARORI TAWA BEARS VS VIC UNI Right from kick off we executed that strategy and luckily Uni allowed us to play our game.. Another fantastic day when the mighty Tawa Bears can take the field on Redwood Park. It was a heavy northerly blowing across the park which was going to make aerial football a bit of a challenge so keeping it on the ground was key. Right from kick off we executed that strategy and luckily Uni allowed us to play our game. We knocked the ball back and fourth and lived on the ball for long periods. Counter attack remained a risk while we play 3 at the back but we felt comfortable pushing forward. Bryce opened the scoring early and when we earnt a Penalty from a corner, the flood gates started to open. By half time it was 5-0. The second half wasn t much different and we went to work early creating many a chance. By full time we managed to have Steeve complete a hattrick and had put 9 goals away. Brooksey in goal probably deserved man of the match for having to stand in the goal for that long with nothing to do but it went to Steeve for the Hat-trick. Final score 9-0 After the lads only having 8 players the week before, the buildup during the week didn t get any easier... After the lads only having 8 players the week before, the build-up during the week didn t get any easier for the players and the Gaffer against Karori. With Blair having drop out after a bad training injury seeing 8 stitches being applied to his CHIN. Henry become unavailable due to going on a Bear Grylls adventure which had him eating creepy crawlies and being trapped in extraordinary situation of survival that made him miss the game and the Sunday Tournament at Eastbourne. The team was down to 7 players. An 11th hour call out to a young prospect called Chase had the team up to 8. Karori being Karori at 9.30am on a Saturday morning was cold, windy, overcast with rain in the air. The Gaffer broke the news to team about Blair and Henry but told them to keep their CHIN UP. This was followed up by parents pulling out a few chin jokes..what do you call a fat psychic? A four chin teller and one of the lads telling the gaffer you have more chins than a Chinese phone book. Fair play to Thomas who stuck his hand up to go in goal first half. With very little passion and commitment from most players Tawa was soon plenty of goals down and faced the second half 10 nil down. A stern talking to from Cam Riley and Gaffer Smiffy saw the lads dig deep and with a good performance from the new recruit Chase in goal they managed to keep score line down to The Tawa Master 1 Grizzlies team was also playing at Karori afterwards and a vicious rumor had already started, the Pythons supporters were baying for the Pythons Gaffer resignation! Enough said about Saturday. Player of day on debut: Chase 10 11

7 MATCH REPORT MENS 2NDS VS STOP OUT Round 5-24 April Hutt Raceway Round 5 took us to Hutt Raceway on an overcast gusty grey day. Maybe it was a sign of things to come. Stop Out is a young side with this team being the back up to their Central League side. "IT WASNT UNTIL 20 MINUTES TO GO WE STARTED TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE A BIT AND GOT PLAYERS FORWARD.. " dominating with constant intelligent movement seeing us concede far too many corners. We went behind with some slack defending as Stop Out took a 1 goal lead. They were to make it 2 with yet another corner and a free header at the far post. 3 minutes before half time saw us 2 down at the break. Ken made some top draw saves again today to keep things respectable heading into half time. 2nd half seen Jorge Marsden and Drew come off for Bottie and Sam Lawrence to try get things going. Dan Rose entered the match in the 65th minute for Luke Catherall and Nathan Perkins shuffled into right back. corner, 2-1. Now we could try nick a point that wasn t to come. It was a shame we couldn t play like this from the first blow of the whistle. A frustrating day at the office again for the lads. A bye next week gives us time to put things back on track on the training pitch. MOM was Gusty again with some very good combative number 9 playing up top and chasing back also to help the troops. 2-1 Stop out Report by: Drew Wild Photos: Richard Williams A few exports have seen us lose Brent Pankhurst who got a well deserved call up to the 1st team and Luke Stead was away. We called in Dan Rose to our bench as cover and there was also the return of Luke Catherall from 2 weeks away in Fiji. 1st half we could not get going. Their young talented midfield were It wasnt until 20 minutes to go we started to push the envelope a bit and got players forward to support Gusty up top again and seen a goal from Steve Romijn chalked off for being offside. With 10 minutes to go Ben Edusei saw a nice left foot volley low into the bottom right hand 12 13

8 WRITER: NIC CROAD TAWA BULLDOGS WEEKS 4 & 5 The first goal came when an inspired Reilly decided he was no longer needed at right back, found his way around the right wing and crossed to Bock who finished his first goal... Wainui On Saturday 28th Tawa Bulldogs travelled away to face the Wainuiomata 3rd team. Predictably the players unfamiliar with the location of Richard Prouse followed the directions of their sat-nav systems and so arrived on the wrong side of the ground. The warm-up was somewhat truncated and brief. We had however some reason for optimism as the Wainui team was still level with us on points, neither team had any. In an attempt to retain posession we packed the mid-field and left Tyler somewhat isolated up-front. This worked well when we managed to get control of posession and actually push players forward. The first goal came when an inspired Reilly decided he was no longer needed at right back, found his way around the right wing and crossed to Bock who finished his first goal for us this season. We went in at half time with a 1-0 lead, and confident that the 3 points were within reach. The second half proceeded in a similar form. Contrary to previous results this time the opposition tired before us, probably due to our retention of significantly more possession. Early in the second half Bock took our second goal. Again Reilly excused himself from right back, found his way to the corner, crossed to Tyler and we finished 3-0. Karori All our losses thus far have had a slightly different lesson and this was our night to find out that 1-0 is a tenuous lead. We should have plenty of motivation to do better for the away match... On Monday 7th Tawa Bulldogs faced Karori in a home game, on the Alex Moore artificial. Monday night games create their own time pressures and again we didn t leave much time to warmup. Karori looked like another opportunity to get points having taken one draw to this point. We were happy to welcome a couple of the younger players from the second team while their match schedule is delayed by the Chattam Cup. The first half was close fought, at times both sides played some nice football. We went ahead when I (Nic) finished about 30 minutes into the first half. With a few duffed chances by Karori this was enough for us to go in ahead at half time. For around the first 15 minutes the second half sat in a similar balance. Karori continued to lack the finishing touch. Unfortunately our luck finally ran short and we conceded a clear penalty. Karori found their feet with 2 more but curbed their aggression when we made it 2-3. We still tried to get the result for the last 10 (more like 15 with stoppage time) minutes, and with Karori maintaining their back line, got a few chances but that was how it ended. Probably the result was decided by chances at both ends when attackers rounded the goal keeper but unfortunately failed to offer a shot. I think if we had reached 2-0 up then we would likely have won. All our losses thus far have had a slightly different lesson and this was our night to find out that 1-0 is a tenuous lead. We should have plenty of motivation to do better for the away match

9 REPORTS TAWA BEARS vs STOKES VALLEY DESPITE THE ROUGHNESS, WE MANAGED TO LET FOOTBALL DO THE TALKING... We raced out for a 2:30 kick off at Delaney Park to play a Stokes Valley side. Having played the guys last year we knew they were no nonsense on the field and were reminded of that upon the ref telling us he was going to let some niggle go. In typical Bears fashion we had 7 away this week which meant we only had 12 on the day so these tackles could have left us very short. Despite the roughness, we managed to let football do the talking with an excellent (although accidental) ball from Saudi found Cashy who squared it up for Geoff to make it 1-0. From there we dominated territory and Cashy took a weak effort from outside the box. The goalie tried a stepover type things and with some laughter it was 2-0. Considered that one an OG. Wasn t long before we had a corner which wasn t cleared. A chest down from Turner and Geoff was in the action again striking a ball first time into the bottom corner Stokes Valley came back and were just as robust in the second but dominated possession for the second half. Defence stayed strong with Brookes making a great save to keep the clean sheet and we finished 3-0 POTD: Geoff KONICA MINOLTA: PRINTING PARTNER Konica Minolta is Tawa AFC's print partner for This is spectacular news for us. 10 WRITER: DREW WILD TAWA 2NDS vs MIRAMAR Men s 2nds v Miramar Rangers 21 Redwood Park - Tawa lost 1-0 Round 4 we welcomed the table topping Miramar Rangers to Redwood Park. A side with several ex national league players experience in there ranks was going to prove a tough challenge. The first half saw which saw Miramar slowly gain control of the match with there Midfield trio & striker Graham Little proving hard to take care of with 1 & 2 touch football. Ken Made a fine save low to his right hand bottom corner to kept the scores level. For a 2nd week running we were also unlucky not to be rewarded at clear penalty. Their corner count was starting to mount up. Finally the break through came with a fine corner met at the far post from their very big striker to put them 1-0 up. Luke Stead s high work rate and tackling was going un rewarded by the ref, after being called up for some fine tackles in midfield. Heading into the break 1-0 gave us something to work with for the 2nd spell. Nathan Perkins came off & Matt Allan moved into right back for the 2nd half. We needed to try & get up to support Gusty up top. Sam Lawrence entered the game. Jorge & Bottie came on for Drew & Luke to add some quick fresh legs. Sam had some nice interplay which saw him onto the edge of the box only to see his strike over the crossbar. The 2nd half past us by really, not being troubled to much but also not really creating a great deal. Unfortunately we fell to our 2nd defeat of the campaign going down 1-0. Plenty of positives to take from the game going down narrowly to the top team & a decent side. Another day could have seen us with at least a point out of the game. MOM - Shaun Pankhurst for a very strong defensive display with some tough tackling. Photo: Richard Williams Plenty of positives to take from the game going down narrowly to the top team & a decent side. Another day could have seen us with at least a point out of the game

11 MATCH REPORTS MENS PREMS vs PETONE The opening 10 minutes of the second half were vital, Petone came out firing and we dug in and stayed compact... Away match against a strong Petone outfit, Mikey and Soe continued up top with Paul and Brent in the starting eleven. We started brightly kept possession and moved the ball opening up the play to our wide players, Captain Magill and Tom. An attack down our right was crossed to Aaron but he delayed his shot and the chance was gone, Paul and Liam were working hard in central midfield and moving the ball to our strickers this created space for Soe to beat his marker and square the ball for Tom who s shot was blocked by the Petone keeper the rebound fell for Soe who lashed home from close range, we maintained this lead till the interval. At half time had a check on Lewis who was battling a groin injury. The opening 10 minutes of the second half were vital, Petone came out firing and we dug in and stayed compact and looked to counter through this period. Aaron s pace and attitude to get foward was a constant outlet this lead to numerous corners, Liam linked well with Mike and was upended on the edge of Petone s box he struck the resulting free kick wide of the keeper but inside the far post for a 2-0 lead. Ollie came on for Tom to freshen things up. Our midfield four continued to win their tackles and break up play and pass early to Soe and Mike who constantly asked questions of the host s. Lance was not overworked but as ever covered well and caught well from corners and kept his back four on there toes. The next period of play brought joy to the scorer and his teammates Paul Willis (yes Paul), his left foot strike from the edge of the box beat the keeper and nestled in the bottom corner a collector s item from the fireman. Lachie came on for the impressive Soe and Dillon replaced the battered Lewis, overall an excellent team performance and a much needed three points, man of the match was awarded toccentre half Brent Pankhurst for sound performance. 12 MATCH REPORTS WRITER: NEIL GARDNER TAWA VETS vs IBU We also hit the post twice and were unlucky not to score but felt in control now... Only having 10 confirmed players on Tuesday was going to make this a difficult game but managed to convince Simon to come back and ask if island bay would kindly ref. Kura Park being hard and big was going to be a factor in fitness and words tactical decision to start Lindsay up front). Island bay were fuming as they had had the better half at this stage. From then it was pretty even and we were keeping our cool and conserving our energy well by doing some nice passing. Just before half time Franz got the ball on half way and not bothering to twist and turn to beat players he just looked up and saw their keeper off his line and unleashed a great shot to make it 2-0. We also hit the post twice and were unlucky not to score but felt in control now with 2 0. Half time and major changes weren t going to happen as we only had one sub. Colin had a break at the back and Matt came on at right back. Island bay were using their subs badly and some of their strikers that were causing us problems were forced to sub for a lesser player or was it a ploy as when their striker returned on he was well rested and island bay began to put through balls for him to run onto. Simon made a great tackle from running from left back to cover the right corner and save a certain goal. Then matt did the same and stopped him again. Once again he made a break and Matt pulled up lame having pulled his hammy. Our last sub used but we knew time was running down and island bay were getting frustrated. We held on for our first clean sheet of the season and a deserved win. Great game by our midfield with Franz setting up and scoring and Chappy (who was having a birthday) controlled it nicely in the middle. We welcome back 5 players next week but the starting 10 have already been decided by a great team effort. 13 11TH GRADE PREMIER LEAGUE 2018 PYTHONS vs STOP OUT Despite the thumping the day before management and players turned up in Eastbourne bathed in sunshine and full of optimism... Despite the thumping the day before management and players turned up in Eastbourne bathed in sunshine and full of optimism. With the overnight withdrawal of Harrison however the introduction of Murali and Luke coming up from the 2nd team the Pythons finally had a full complement of 9 players, however no substitutions so a long day was in store for the player. Game 1 - Tawa v Wellington United/ Brooklyn Alliance Black Score: 1-0 (3 Points) Superb corner from Smiffy saw Tai score from a header. Both lads got a $5 bonus for scoring with a header. Game 4 - Tawa v Upper Hutt Score: 1-1 (1 Point) Chase opened up his goal tally for Tawa with a sweet left foot, however the Pythons let in a sloppy goal late in the game. 5th and 6th Play-off Score: Karori Rebels (0-1) The lads showed plenty of heart but went 1-0 down in the playoff. Victor had a great game in goal, Thomas, Eamonn, Murali and Luke showed plenty of commitment at the back. Smiffy and Tai was tireless in midfield which they had been all day. Chase kept the defenders on their toes and Zach had a great couple of chances that just missed. Game 2 - Tawa v Stop Out Eastbourne Black Score: 0-3 (0 Points) Brilliant effort by the lads however they went down. Well done lads a great effort coming 6th. Player of the tournament Went to Tai. 14 MATCH PREMS REPORTS vs NTH WGTN THE TOFFS We are always keen on welcoming new members to the Toffs family. It was a hot day way back in 2009 when two not so young fellas by TOFFS (The Over Fifties Football Supporters). So that s how it all purchasing behaviour, not luck. Those funds, along with our own Island Bay started well and we were under early pressure... WRITER: RICHIE MARTIN the names of Brian and Mike got started. contributions mean that in the last together at their mate Baz s house. There was meat on the BBQ (we could chew easier back in those days) and plenty of beer lubricating the conversation. Being good Tawa Football Club men the discussion soon turned to the question of How can we help the club? The winning idea came easily, lets buy a lotto ticket and if we win we ll go equal shares with the club. That was the easy bit. We were more stumped by trying to decide what to call our new found group. Many silly names were cast around but we couldn t come up with anything that fitted. Then, as usually happens, a woman (Ingrid) joined the conversation and made a sensible suggestion, The We got official and made up a member s card and recruited a few more people. To become a Toff all you need to do is pay five dollars a week. This gives you a share in any big Lotto win we have (yet to happen) and any left over money goes into the Toffs account to help support the club. Any small wins also go into the Toffs account. One of the Toffs regular fundraising activities is organising the Saturday Wheel raffles. We really appreciate the help we get from club members who go around helping sell tickets. We would like to confirm that the raffles are not fixed and the regular wins by Grizzly members are due to their few years we have been able to contribute to clubroom repairs as well as support both the Junior and Senior clubs in other ways. We are always keen on welcoming new members to the Toffs family. Anyone whose body has decided their playing days are over but still has an interest in the club, and wants to invest in the future of the club, should have a chat to one of us. For less than the price of a beer or coffee a week ($20 a month) you can help the club, and who knows, you could even win big. Ngā mihi Jimmy O Carroll (Mr O C) Third match in a week back home. Home against the free scoring Island Bay, a couple of changes to the starting eleven with Davie Hunt and skipper Aaron Magill back in after injury and illness. Island Bay started well and we were under early pressure, Jamie Nicholas twisted his dodgy knee and was replaced after ten minute, Davie moved central and Nick slotted to left back and Bobby coming on at right back. Lance was a busy keeper as Island Bay forced corners and Lance made a vital one on one save. Liam and Aaron were industrious in midfield and we looked dangerous when our passing allowed us to get foward, Soe looked a threat up top with Mike late in the half his run created a good chance for Ollie alas his shot cleared the bar 0-0 at the interval. Second half start was slow and their quick front runner got in behind and we were 1-0 down before we had restarted, they looked in control and Lance was busy sweeping up. After a goalmouth scramble they doubled there lead and we needed to respond. We started playing wide to our players Ollie and Tom, who were getting forward and Soe was knocking on the door and he lashed home a right foot rocket from the edge of the box. We were on top and continued to push foward we looked likely and lively in the attacking third. From a counter we were punished 3-1 down with fiftheen to play. On came Lachie and Jarred. A hand ball in the box gave the opportunity for Mike to step up, but the keeper sved it but Mike slotted in the rebound. Could we nick another, a late corner gave us a chance but they held on. A big improvement from Wednesday but another slipped away, man of the match was Soe who was a constant threat

15 11TH GRADE PREMIER TAWA PYTHONS Game 3 Kapiti Coast United 5-11 The weather forecasters got it wrong as usual and the team arrived up the Kapiti Coast in perfect conditions. With the lads still on another high from last week s 5-2 win against local rivals North Wellington it was always going to be Tough Day at the Office for the lads and management this week as they faced KCU away. During the week Jean Paul had announced he was going to be unavailable for the Pythons for the rest of season which was a big blow. Zac Riley, Pythons international jetsetter was flying in on the Red Eye from Singapore however mum Kaylene had assured the gaffer he would make it to the game. With an early morning text saying Thomas had to withdraw from the squad due to illness it left the Pythons with what seemed like having a player given a Red Card before the game had even started, only 8. The weather forecasters got it wrong as usual and the team arrived up the Kapiti Coast in perfect conditions. Perhaps the starting line-up consisting of Tawa only having 8 players against a squad of 14 KCU would predict the final result. Gaffer Smith handed over the Captains arm band to the newest member of the team and goal keeper Victor. After forced into changing the normal attacking formation Harrison was informed he would be playing alone upfront. Game on. Within 2 minutes pressure from Tai, Henry and Harrison down the right flank saw Tawa go 1-0 up with an Oggy from KCU. The lad s confidence grew immediately and within another 2 mins Tai and Smiffy linked up and provided Harrison who pounced on a half volley and smashed the ball home from the edge of the box. Not even Dan Wood from the Grizzlies would have kept this one out 2-0. It had to be said with Tawa defence played well below par and Kapiti banged in a couple of goals that the Tawa defence should have kept out. Victor pulled off some great saves to keep the score to 2 all. The midfield supporting Harrison upfront created another opportunity and Tawa went 3-2 up with another goal from Harrison. Kapiti kicked off and again the Tawa defence leaked like a sieve, 3 quick goals saw KCU go 5-3 up. Victor kept the score line down to a respectable score before another 2 goals got stuck in the Tawa onion Bag. 7-3 half time. There was no PC half time talk from the Gaffer the message was clear, be first to the ball and get stuck in and you will create more chances. The lads responded. Tawa started to take control and the defence looked more solid. Hand ball by KCU saw Smiffy step up and smash in a penalty 7-4. Definitely the game was back on. Few more great saves from Victor seeing one of shots smash him in the face kept the lads in race. However the extra player began to tell and KCU banged in a couple more goals making it 9-4 before the Tawa training drill finally paid off. Smiffy knocks in a Peter Wither s like corner and Harrison rises like a John West Salmon and stuck his nut on it just like Jason Pine. Harrison s hat trick and goal of the season maybe! Alas that s where it ended with the Tawa lads going down Smiffy and Harrison picked up their $5 goal bonus from the gaffer and the lads headed off back to Tawa with a smile on their face. Player of the Day: Victor (GK) Goal of Season Contender: Harrison (3) 28 29

As the inheritor, I get the year term as president /Chairman opportunity to say thanks to a and we are not a banana republic. Mike is positive, looks at the bigger colleague, however over my time picture and when decisions are at the club I am happy to say that Mike has been a hands on Chairman made he s made it for the good of gratitude comes as his friend. Most arranging so much from erecting the football club. members at Tawa can probably say pitch gates to finding sponsors, the same. Mike as the club man organising kits and running the Mike has always never shyed from is only half of his legacy. Mike is a MIKE WOOD clubrooms you name it he s done it. participating in events, quiz night and prizegiving, he s always been tremendous man who has time for anyone. Always smiling, positive and He also helped his son Dan manage very social. passionate about everything and the senior team for a season or two. everyone around him. A SMALL THANK YOU FROM PLAYERS AND FRIEND THAT HAVE WORKED WITH MIKE OVER THE YEARS Above Image: Paul Houliston (Capital Football Board Chair) congratulates Mike Wood (left) on being awarded Life Membership of Capital Football. My mate Mike is standing down as president of the club. Mike took over in (I believe) early 2000 as president of Tawa AFC from me at a time when the club needed a better business approach. I don t believe people appreciate the amount of commitment and time it takes to look after a club this size, before of 20 hours a week making sure all would run smoothly. With this he leaves the club in a healthy position to hand over the reins to Ben (I believe much to Bernie s delight) I remember meeting Mike while I was president he had already been a junior team coach for some time and eventually joined the committee and since that time has taken on a number of roles throughout the club from treasure to president. Like myself Mike s family are scattered around Tawa When Team Wellington was formed in 2004 Mike was involved he spent as least two season as Chairman and then further years on the board. Mike has been great to deal with over many years and has spent on average two hours everyday on Tawa Football matters, during these thirty odd years we have experienced high s and Low s on and off the pitch Mike has steered the club through these periods and as a club we are much better for it, Mike Wood a true Tawa legend give that man a knighthood. On a personal note, when I have had my downs he has always been there for me when I needed any help, I have always taken in his answers when I have asked for advice on things, even though it s not what I wanted to hear. I will truly miss him, but at the sometime good on him, time to put his feet up and play golf :) Ohh yeah and spend more quality time with Bernie :) Jan Lang So with that I will conclude with a huge thanks to a man that has shaped the community and a true friend. Your efforts will be remembered at Tawa for a long time to come and I look forward to sharing a beer or two with you going forward. You will likely be laughing at my efforts of trying to fill the tremendously large shoes you have left in your wake. Ben Turner Mike had retired as well as his full time job he would spend upwards club from his sons having played from various Tawa teams (with Richie Martin It is with great sadness and gratitude 30 31

17 MATCH REPORTS MASTERS TWO TAWA VETS vs PORIRUA CITY WRITER: NEIL GARDNER Nil all at half time and it was still anyone s game. Second half we were starting to get the better rub of the green and were controlling it well.. Adventure Park this week against Porirua City. We played them pre-season and lost 3-2 and their previous results this season were pretty good so we knew we would have a challenage. Most of our players had returned and we had 15 to choose from. But with a win and a clean sheet last week, the 10 from last week were picked first. With an excellent subs bench we were ready to rumble. We lost the toss and got to play with the wind in the first half. First half was fairly even with little chances from both sides. But during the first half from a throw in that was thrown to Marty in goal and with very little time Marty grabbed the ball instead of hoofing it and we all realised that it was an indirect.. even with our encouragement to the ref that we forgot the rule had changed. A FEW MORE SHOTS FROM US AND WE WERE LOOKING IN CONTROL.. BUT WE KNEW IT WOULD ONLY TAKE ONE RUN AWAY FOR US TO CONCEDE A GOAL... Porirua were awarded a freekick inside the box. We lined up and with a quick tap and a shot Porirua hit the post and we were saved. Nil all at half time and it was still anyone s game. Second half we were starting to get the better rub of the green and were controlling it well. Quite a few positional changes were made but the Tawa Vets are very versatile and can play in most positions.. some players can even use both feet. Fran got the first goal with some nice passing down the left and he received it just outside the box to turn and shoot and the goalie didn t even move.. then he had to to turn around and pick up the ball from the back of the net. With Pete missing quite a few easy chances it was good to finally get one and go up 1-0, Porirua were now grumbling amongst themselves and we were gaining more control. Ray came back on at right mid and with a man possessed he tackled their left back, got the ball, passed into Kepi who gave Ray and nice through ball, Ray storming into the goal box looking likely to score but he decided to pass back to Kepi who had a shot only for it to go wide.. why oh why didn t Ray shoot. A few more shots from us and we were looking in control.. but we knew it would only take one run away for us to concede a goal and the back four were looking very dodgy (since Dave and Neil were on the side line). Dave came back on to steady the ship and moved Mal up to left mid where he received a nice overhead to chest down and with one bounce volleyed it home to make it 2-0. That was a nicely taken goal and eased the pressure on us. That was enough for Porirua and they conceded defeat. Another clean sheet for the Vets and it puts us nicely in third position on the table. Final score Porirua 0 Tawa Vets 2 Scorers Fran 1 Malcolm
