THE FOURTH IN CLEVELAND: The Padres celebrate Independence day with the club's first matchup against the Cleveland Indians since April 9, 2014...The two teams have gone headto-head only 12 times, with the Padres owning a 4-8 record against their American League foe. The Indians are the fourth American League club the Friars have opposed this season, and the Padres look to improve their 5-8 record against interleague opponents. Per STATS, the Padres.421 (146-121) winning percentage against interleague opponents is the second-worst record in the Majors since the inception of interleague games in 1977. STREAK SNAPPERS: The Padres' 5-3 victory on Sunday over the Dodgers snapped the club's six-game losing streak to their southern California rival...the win was the first of the season against the Dodgers at Petco Park. Jhoulys Chacin threw a season-high 107 pitches in the game and logged his seventh win of the season...he now boasts a 5-2 record in nine starts at home this season, sporting a 1.68 ERA (11 ER, 59.0 IP) at Petco Park...it was his ninth game this season in which he allowed two-or-fewer earned runs, and it was his third start at home this year in which he did not allow a single run. OF Hunter Renfroe recorded a career-high four hits in Sunday's game...the rookie outfielder went 4-for-4 with a double and a trio of singles it was also the fifth game this season in which he has had three hits or more. OF Manuel Margot belted his fifth home run of the season for the first run of the game his round-tripper gave the Padres their first lead of the series against the Dodgers...Margot has now had multiple hits in four of his last five games in that span, he is hitting.526 (10-for-19) with three doubles, one home run, four RBI and six runs scored. TAKING THE CAHILL: Starter RHP Trevor Cahill gets the ball for his eighth start of the season and his first start against the Cleveland Indians since August 30, 2011...Cahill owns a 2-2 record versus the Indians with a 4.30 ERA (11 ER/ 23.0 IP) over four starts. Per STATS, Cahill leads Padres starters in a multitude of categories this season...his 3.27 ERA (15, 41.1 IP) is the lowest among Padres starters, and compared to all Padres pitchers, his.214 opponent batting average bests the other pitchers'.277 opponent average. His 11.10 strikeouts per nine innings ratio ranks eighth among all MLB starters and fourth among all NL starters (minimum seven games started)...teammate RHP Dinelson Lamet s 12.16 K/9 ratio ranks fourth in MLB and leads all NL starters. He has collected at least six strikeouts in all seven on his starts this season, a career-high streak of striking out six-or-more...his previous career-high streak of recording at least six strikeouts was four games from 9/24/12 to 4/8/13. MAKING MOVES: Today, the Padres reinstated RHP Trevor Cahill from the 10-day disabled list and designated INF Chase d'arnaud for assignment. Cahill was placed on the disabled list on May 17 with a right shoulder strain...the veteran righty made two starts for the El Paso Chihuhuas on June 22 and 28, tossing a combined 5.2 innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out seven. HAPPY HITTING, HUNTER: OF Hunter Renfroe's 17 doubles lead all National League rookies, and he is second in the Majors behind Houston's Yuli Gurriel's 19. Renfroe recorded a career-high four hits in Sunday's game, going 4-for-4 with a double. He has hit safely in four of his last five games, hitting.526 (10-for-19) with three doubles, one triple, one home run and four RBI...he has multiple hits in three of those five games. His 16 homers are fourth-most in the Majors among rookies...his 137 total bases rank third. ELIAS SAYS: Per ELIAS, The Padres have won their last 107 home games in which they led entering the ninth inning, dating back to July 2014...it is the longest active streak in the Majors...the last team with more than 107 straight home wins when leading after eight innings was the San Francisco Giants (109 wins) from 8/31/10 to 7/23/13. PADRES ON DECK: Fernando Tatis Jr. and Christian Villanueva were named Players of the Week in their respective leagues for the second time this season. CF Franchy Cordero recorded his second four-hit game since returning to El Paso... Cordero was 4-for-6 with a double, a steal, a run scored and a RBI, and RF Jabari Blash was 3-for-4 for the Chihuahuas with his 16th home run. SS Javier Guerra homered in his third straight game as part of a 3-for-4 night for Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore, and CF Michael Gettys homered in two at-bats for the Storm. LHP Joey Lucchesi won his debut at Double-A San Antonio, holding Northwest Arkansas to three runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On July 4, 1979, Bob Shirley pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout with a walk and five strikeouts and Dave Winfield hit a three-run homer as the Padres defeated the Dodgers 6-0 at San Diego Stadium...On July 4, 1987, the Padres acquired pitchers Mark Davis and Mark Grant and 3B Chris Brown in a seven-player trade that sent 3B Kevin Mitchell and left-handed pitchers Dave Dravecky and Craig Lefferts to the San Francisco Giants.
