INF Yangervis Solarte homered for the 17th time this season, extending his career-high and tying the game at 3-3 in the eighth. In his return to Coors Field, starter Jhoulys Chacin worked 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and three runs (earned) with four strikeouts...since June 3, he has a 3.25 ERA and a.220 opponent average. Per ELIAS, the Padres bullpen combined for 4.2 scoreless innings, their most scoreless innings thrown at a game at Coors Field since they tossed 4.2 in a win in Denver on May 14, SCORING CHANGE: In the ninth inning yesterday, C Austin Hedges laid down a bunt to plate OF Matt Szczur to give the Padres their eventual winning run... it was originally ruled as a sacrifice bunt with Szczur scoring from third on an error by pitcher Greg Holland... the sacrifice was removed, and the run remained unearned. BRING 'EM UP, BRING 'EM UP: Today, the Padres recalled OF Travis Jankowski, OF Hunter Renfroe and RHP Tim Melville from Triple-A El Paso...the Padres also selected C Rocky Gale and INF Christian Villanueva to the Major League roster and designated INF Dusty Coleman and for assignment...melville will wear number 54, Gale will wear 58 and Villanueva will wear 22. INTO THE SIXTH: Starter Luis Perdomo has had 10 straight starts of 6.0-or-more innings, which is the second longest active streak in the majors (HOU Justin Verlander has made 12 consecutive such starts)...the young righty has pitched 6.0 innings on 16 occasions in 26 starts this season, and his 16 starts of exactly 6.0 innings are the most in the majors in 2017, per STATS. THE GROUNDER GAMES: Luis Perdomo leads all Major League pitchers with a 63.3 ground ball percentage (minimum innings pitched)...he has induced 28 ground-ball double plays, which ranks second in the National League (behind teammate Clayton Richard's 29) and fourth in the majors. ON THE OTHER SIDE: D-Backs' starter Patrick Corbin needs one more victory to set a new personal record of 15 on the season...in his last three road starts, the southpaw is 3-0 with a.082 ERA (2 ER, 22.0 IP) and a.139 opponent average. Several Padres have posted impressive numbers against Corbin, however...wil Myers has hit.417 (8-for-17) against the southpaw with two doubles and a homer run...jose Pirela has gone 4-for-5 with two doubles, Hector Sanchez has hit.538 (7-for-13), Yangervis Solarte has hit.429 (6-for-14) and Erick Aybar has hit.455 (5-for-11). LEFT: Yangervis Solarte homered off LHP Chris Rusin yesterday, yet he is looking to improve against left-handed pitching this season...he has hit.213 against southpaws and.266 vs. righties in only two of his 17 homers have come against lefties. PADRES ON DECK: Triple-A El Paso s bid for a second straight Pacific Coast League title ended in defeat Sunday night at Southwest University Park...Memphis, the Cardinals Triple-A affiliate, defeated the Chihuahuas 3-1 in the decisive fifth game of the best-of-five series to win the title...el Paso finished the season with a record and a third straight PCL Pacific South Division title. El Paso s only run came on a solo homer by 2B Chase d Arnaud...RHP Kyle Lloyd gave up a two-run homer in the fifth after throwing four scoreless innings. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On September 18, 1983, Tony Gwynn went 3-for-5 and set a then-franchise record by hitting safely in a 25 straight games...the streak was the longest in the majors in 1983 and the longest of Gwynn s career. 2 #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP WE LOVE LUIS: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound tonight for his 27th start of the season, 13th at home, and fourth this season against the Arizona Diamondbacks...his 26 starts this season eclipse his previous career high start total of 20 from last season, when he made a total of 35 appearances for the Padres. Has worked at least 6.0 innings in 10 straight starts and he has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 23 of his 26 starts this season...the last Padre to work at least 6.0 innings-or-more in at least 10 consecutive starts was James Shields from September 9, 2015 to May 25, 2016 when he worked 14 such straight starts. TONIGHT S STARTER QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Has tossed 16 quality starts this year, ahead of Jhoulys Chacin s 14 for the club lead. Has tossed five consecutive quality starts since 8/18 with a 3.30 ERA (11 ER, 30.0 IP)...strung together four straight quality starts from 4/28 to 5/15 and posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER, 24.0 IP) in that time with a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. THE GROUNDER GAMES: Leads all pitchers with a 63.3 ground ball percentage (minimum innings pitched)...teammates Clayton Richard (60.0) and Jhoulys Chacin (49.8) rank third and 18th, respectively. Has forced opponents to ground into 28 double plays this season, which ranks fourth in the majors and second in the National League, one behind Clatyon Richard s 29. Ranks first among all MLB pitchers with at least innings pitched with a 1.72 opponent ground into double play per nine innings ratio. SWING IT, LUIS: In his outing on 7/22 at SF, he hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth...it was his third triple in just 24 at-bats on the season, becoming the first Padre in club history to hit three triples in one season. Perdomo s three triples in his 24-at bats were more than all other pitchers in their combined 2,837 at-bats at that time...chc Jake Arrieta and PHI Jeremy Hellickson are the only other pitchers to record a triple so far this season, resulting in Perdomo having more triples than all other MLB pitchers in their current combined 4,230 at-bats. The last pitcher in MLB history to hit three triples in a season was Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins in the last pitcher to hit four triples in a season was PHI Robin Roberts in Recorded two extra-base hits in a game for the first time in his career on 5/15 at MIL his RBI triple in the second inning was the first triple of his career and he became the first Padre hurler to hit a three-bagger since Tyson Ross on 6/20/15 vs. ARI. HAT TRICK: Perdomo recorded a win in three consecutive starts from 6/23-7/5, the longest such streak of his career and one of only three Padres to record a win in three straight so far this season (also, Chacin, 7/20-8/1 and Lamet, 7/23-8/5)...over the three-game stretch, Perdomo went 3-0 with a 2.76 ERA (5 ER, 16.1 IP). To start the streak on 6/23 vs. DET, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs while striking out six...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings, allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also 5/31vs. CHC), the only Padres pitcher this season to record such a start. The only Padres pitcher to record wins in three consecutive starts in 2016 was LHP Christian Friedrich from May 27 to June 6.
