ELIAS SAYS: With his homer last night, INF Cory Spangenberg has hit three home runs in his last five games...he has eight home runs in 2017 (previous career-high in homers was four in 2015), and it was Spangenberg s third career homer off a lefty, the others coming off Jorge De La Rosa on April 9, 2016 at COL and vs. TEX Alex Claudio on May 8 of this season...the last left-handed batter to go deep off LHP Madison Bumgarner was the ATL Freddie Freeman on August 28, BATTLE OF THE BULLPENS: So far this season, the Padres bullpen has a 3-1 record against San Francisco with a 1.35 ERA (5 ER, 33.1 IP) and forcing Giants' lumber to a.179 opponent average...padres relievers have not allowed a single run in their last three games against the Giants, sporting a 10.1 inning scoreless streak. THE GROUNDER GAMES: The Padres pitching staff has induced the most ground balls in the Majors this season (1,232)...the Friars have a league-leading 50.6 ground ball percentage, and they have induced the fourth-most ground ball double plays (89). PADRES ON DECK: For Single-A Lake Elsinore, 1B Fernando Perez went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI... Perez is hitting.348 since returning to the Storm from Double-A San Antonio...C Austin Allen went 4-for-5 with a double, a homer and two RBI. 2B Luis Urias was 4-for-5 with a double...he is hitting.316 for San Antonio. In 7.0 innings of work, RHP Henry Henry allowed one run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts for short-season Single-A Tri-City. OF Travis Jankowski, placed on the DL on April 24 with a right foot fracture, was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in his rehab assignment game in Arizona...his rehab assignment was transferred to Triple-A El Paso. RHP Carter Capps fanned two in two perfect innings for El Paso. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On July 21, 2006, C Mike Piazza knocked a double for his 2,000th hit as a Padre in a 8-2 loss at AT&T Park in SF. 2 TONIGHT S STARTER #38 - TREVOR CAHILL - RHP TREVOR S 2017 DAY-BY-DAY BACK ON THE (CA)HILL: 29-year-old RHP Trevor Cahill takes the ball tonight for his 11th start of the season, seven on the road, and 18th career appearance (15th start) against the Giants. Will be his second consecutive start against the Giants...earned the win and improved to 7-5 on 7/16 vs. SF, working 6.2 innings on one-run ball on eight hits while striking out eight and walking one in the Padres 7-1 victory. Has posted a career 7-5 record with a 3.63 ERA (36 ER, 89.1 IP) against SF. Limiting opposing hitters to a.234 average (51-for-218)...left-handed hitters are hitting just.206 (20-for-97). PETCO S FINEST: Is 4-0 with a 0.72 ERA (2 ER, 25.0 IP) in his four starts at Petco Park this season as opposed to a 0-3 record with a 5.01 ERA (18 ER, 32.1 IP) in his six road starts this season.
