Per ELIAS, last night was the third time in franchise history that the Padres had three players with fouror-more hits in a game (last: August 24, 2007 at PHI), and it was the first time in franchise history that the Padres have ever had three players with only one hit shy of the cycle in a single game...c Hector Sanchez needed a triple and both OF Matt Szczur and OF Jose Pirela needed a home run. After entering the game in the bottom of the fourth, OF Matt Sczcur recorded a career-high four hits, becoming the first Padre to ever have more than three SD vs. SF in 2017 Average (108-for-396) Avg. w/risp (30-for-96) Home runs RBI Stolen bases... 5 Runs per game ERA (38, 103.0) Starters W-L Starters ERA (30, 62.1) Relievers W-L Relievers ERA (8, 40.2) Saves/Chances... 4/5 hits off the bench in a game...both INF Carlos Asuaje and INF/OF Jose Pirela's four hits also set career-highs in the game. Starter RHP Trevor Cahill's 3.1 innings marked his shortest start of the season (shortest since he went 2.1 innings vs. MIA on April 14, 2015, while with ATL)...Cahill is 0-3 with a 5.75 ERA on the road this season, while owning a 4-0 record at home with 0.72 ERA. AGAINST THE GIANTS: With last night's extra-inning win, the Padres have won nine of their last 12 games against SF and now own a 7-1 record in their last eight games at AT&T Park... dating back to the '16 All-Star break, the Padres have won 16 of 21 games vs. SF. 4 HOURS, 46 MINUTES: Last night (rolling into early this morning) marked the longest game the Padres have played this season...it was the longest since their 5 hour and 47 minute game on May 22, 2016 vs. LAD. HERE'S BUDDY: The Padres placed INF Erick Aybar on the 10-day DL with a left foot contusion and reinstated LHP Buddy Baumann from the 60-day DL...Baumann (pronounced BAU-men, as in "Buddy, take a bow,") makes his first appearance in the ML this season in his fifth career call-up...he made his ML debut last season on June 16 vs. SF, and with one pitch, he induced a groundout from INF Brandon Crawford...was optioned the next day to El Paso. HITTING IN THE CLUTCH: Last night, the Padres had the most hits with RISP in a game this season, going 8-for-22 as a team with 10 RBI...against SF this season with RISP, the Padres are hitting.313 (30-for-96) with six doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 47 RBI. HE CAME, HE SAW, HE HIT: OF Matt Szczur, after entering the game in the fourth inning last night, went a career-best 4-for-5, including an 11th inning single that drove in the go-ahead run... the last player to have four hits and a game-winning RBI in a game in which he did not start was PHI Chris Coste, vs. NYM, on August 26, 2008 (ELIAS)...last night was his first career game with three-or-more hits as a non-starter...never before has Szczur been one hit shy of the cycle. OH SO CLOSE: With one strike left to win the game, INF Conner Gillaspie's two-run homer tied the game at 9-9 to end RHP Brandon Maurer's save streak...before allowing the homer, Maurer had gone 15-for-15 in save opportunities since May 28. BATTLE OF THE BULLPENS: So far this season, the Padres bullpen has a 4-1 record against San Francisco with a 1.77 ERA (8 ER, 40.2 IP) and forcing Giants' lumber to a.175 opponent average...the Padres 'pen combined to toss 7.1 innings last night, and they have worked 7.0-ormore innings this season on four occasions. HAVE A DAY: INF Carlos Asaje had a career-high four hits and career-high three RBI last night... has hit safely in 11 of 12 games, hitting.380 (19-for-50) with four doubles, a triple, one HR and eight RBI...he has also reached base safely in career-high 14 straight games. HELLO, OLD FRIEND: Last night, C Hector Sanchez logged a season-high seven total bases, one short of his career high of eight, which was set vs. COL on April 23, 2014 while he was a Giant..this season vs. SF, he is hitting.389 (7-for-18) with four homers and 10 RBI, and four of his seven home runs have come against Giants' pitching...in his career against his former club, Sanchez is a.478 hitter (11-for-23) with five home runs and 13 RBI... Sanchez has five homers in his first 10 career games vs. SF...while playing for SF, he had 10 homers in 244 games. PADRES ON DECK: RHP Reggie Lawson and RHP Cal Quantrill turned in solid starts in the Padres system Friday night, while Double-A 2B Luis Urias extended his current hitting streak to 10 games...lawson allowed two runs on two hits in 5.1 innings, and Quantrill allowed six hits with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On July 22, 1979, PH Jerry Turner hit a three-run, walk-off homer in the ninth to give the Padres a 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at San Diego Stadium. 2 #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP PERD, PERD, PERD...PERD IS THE WORD: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound today in search of his fourth win in his last five starts after starting the season winless in his first 10 starts. Today will be his 17th start of the season, eighth on the road, and his seventh career appearance (fifth start) against the Giants. Has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 13 of his 16 starts and at least 6.0 innings in nine of those outings. TODAY S STARTER IT S BEEN A WHILE: Before working a season-low 2.1 innings in his last start on 7/17 at COL, Perdomo recorded a win three consecutive starts from 6/23-7/5, the longest such streak of his career and the only Padre to record a win in three straight starts so far this season...ver the three-game stretch, Perdomo went 3-0 with a 2.76 ERA (5 ER, 16.1 IP). To start the streak on 6/23 vs. DET, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs while striking out six...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings, allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also 5/31vs. CHC), the only Padres pitcher this season to record such a start. The only Padres pitcher to record wins in three consecutive starts last season was LHP Christian Friedrich from May 27 to June 6. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Has tossed nine quality starts this year, the second-most on the team behind Jhoulys Chacin s 12. Tossed four straight quality starts from 4/28 to 5/15 and posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER, 24.0 IP) in that time with a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. WELL GROUNDED: Leads all MLB pitchers with a 66.0 ground ball percentage (minimum 85.0 innings pitched)...teammates Clayton Richard (58.4) and Jhoulys Chacin (53.2) rank fifth and 11th, respectively. SUPPORT SYSTEM: His 45 total runs of support (runs scored while he is in the game) are tied for the 10th-fewest among all MLB pitchers and tied for the fourth-fewest among National League pitchers with at least 85.0 innings pitched...the Padres are 7-9 in his 16 starts this season. PERDOMO AT THE PLATE: Recorded two extra-base hits in a game for the first time in his career on 5/15 at MIL his RBI triple in the second inning was the first of his career and he became the first Padre hurler to hit a threebagger since Tyson Ross on 6/20/15 vs. ARI. Hit his second career triple in the fifth inning on 6/12 vs. CIN, becoming the first pitcher in Padres franchise history to hit two triples in a single season the last pitcher in the ML to hit two or more triples in a season was Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins in 2007 (three triples), per STATS. A WIN, AT LAST, FOR LUIS: Went 10 starts into this season without earning a win...only John D Acquisto (12 starts without a win in 1977) has ever had a longer winless streak in Padres history (STATS). Tossed 6.2 innings of three-run ball, allowing seven hits while striking out four to earn the victory in the Padres 9-3 victory vs. CIN.
