THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: In their last two games, the Padres bullpen combined to throw 8.1 innings of five-hit ball...they have not allowed a single run, struck out seven and held opposing bats to a.167 average without an extra-base hit. KEEP IT 100: Brad Hand recorded two saves in as many games, and with his strikeout last night, he now has 97 on the season...if he reaches the 100-strikeout mark, he'll be the second Padre in club history to record back-to-back 100-strikeout seasons (also: Trevor Hoffman in ). ELIAS SAYS: After last night's victory, the Padres have won 124 straight games at home when entering the ninth inning with a lead...it is the longest active streak in baseball. HOME IMPROVEMENT: Since May 21, the Padres have posted a overall record...53 of those 105 games have been played at Petco Park, with the Padres owning a.604 winning percentage (31-21). ONE MORE TIME: With home runs off the bats of OF Hunter Renfroe and C Austin Hedges last night, they were the 175th and 176th hit by a Padre this season...one more home run will tie the franchise home run record of 177 in a single season (set in 2016)... the 177th home run hit last season was on September 30 at Arizona (hit by Ryan Schimpf and yielded by Braden Shipley). CARELESS WHISPERER: C Austin Hedges hit his 18th home run of the season last night, and his three home runs, 10 hits, seven runs scored and seven RBI against the D-Backs this season are the most he has accrued against any team. RECORD HUNTER: OF Hunter Renfroe's 21 home runs this season are the third-most in a single season among rookies in Padres history...only Nate Colbert (who hit 24 in 1969) and Jedd Gyorko (23 in 2013) have hit more. 2 #37 - TRAVIS WOOD - LHP TONIGHT S STARTER TRAVIS TIME: 30-year-old Travis Wood is set to make his 10th start as a Padre tonight, sixth at home, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tonight will be his 14th appearance (eighth start) against the Diamondbacks and his first start against ARI since 7/19/14 while with the Chicago Cubs. Allowed a career-high nine earned runs in his last start on 9/12 at MIN. Earned his second win as a Padre in his start on 8/19 vs. WSH, working a season-high 7.0 innings of three-hit ball allowing just one unearned run in the Padres 3-1 victory...his 7.0 innings pitched were the most he has tossed in a single game since tossing 7.0 innings of shutout ball and allowing just three hits on April 15, 2015 vs. CIN while with the Cubs.
