Wil Myers' second homer of the night plated two in the ninth to cut the D-Backs' lead to Austin Hedges doubled to plate Jabari Blash, and a trio of singles from Erik Aybar, Carlos Asuaje and Manuel Margot gave the Friars their 8-7 lead. The six hits tied for the most hits the Padres had in single inning this season, and it was the second time this season that San Diego had logged six hits in a ninth inning in 2017 (first: April 26, also at ARI). Closer Brad Hand walked Jake Lamb to begin the bottom of the ninth, and with two outs and the bases loaded, he struck out Ketel Marte to end the game. WELCOME TO THE GROUNDER GAMES: Starter Luis Perdomo leads all pitchers with a 62.6 ground ball percentage (minimum innings pitched)...he has forced opponents to ground into 27 double plays this season, which ranks tied for first in the NL with teammate Clayton Richard and tied for third in the Majors HE LIKES IT HERE: Last night was Wil Myers' fifth career multi-home run game, his first of the season and his second in a Padres uniform (last: June 8, 2016 vs. ATL)...he is hitting a career.330 (36-for-109) at Chase Field, and he has a career.321 average (60-for-187) vs. ARI with 15 doubles, a triple and eight homers. THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: In their last 26 games (since August 13), Padres relievers have the second-best ERA in baseball, posting a 2.66 ERA (26 ER, 88.0 IP), behind only the Indians' 2.23 ERA...they have also held opposing bats to a.208 average and 1.07 WHIP, which are both the best marks in the majors in that time. PLAY THE HAND YOU'RE DEALT: With his 94th strikeout of the season last night, Brad Hand could become only the second reliever in Padres history to record back-to-back 100 strikeout seasons...the only other was Trevor Hoffman in PADRES ON DECK: Saturday night, both Double-A San Antonio and Single-A Fort Wayne lost their playoff games. Midland scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Missions 6-3 in Midland to tie their best-of-five Texas League Southern Division Championship at Tonight, RHP Jacob Nix will start for the Missions in San Antonio. Dayton scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth Saturday night to defeat Fort Wayne 2-1 and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series to determine the Midwest League s Eastern Division champion...dayton will host the second (and potentially the third) game in the series...reggie Lawson will get the ball Sunday for the TinCaps. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On September 10, 1996, CF Steve Finley hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Pirates 6-5 at San Diego Jack Murphy... 2 TODAY S STARTER #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP WE LOVE LUIS: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound today for his 26th start of the season, 12th on the road, and third this season against the Arizona Diamondbacks...his 25 starts this season eclipse his previous career high start total of 20 from last season, when he made a total of 35 appearances for the Padres. Has worked at least 6.0 innings in nine straight starts and he has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 22 of his 25 starts this season...the last Padre to work at least 6.0 innings-or-more in at least nine consecutive starts was James Shields from September 9, 2015 to May 25, 2016 when he worked 14 such straight starts. Worked 6.0 innings of two-run ball in his last outing on 9/4 vs. STL, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out six, but was saddled with the loss opposite Carlos Martinez in the Padres 2-0 defeat. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Has tossed 15 quality starts this year, ahead of Jhoulys Chacin s 14 for the club lead. Has tossed four consecutive quality starts over his last four outings since 8/18 with a 3.00 ERA...also strung together four straight quality starts from 4/28 to 5/15 and posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER, 24.0 IP) in that time with a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. THE GROUNDER GAMES: Leads all pitchers with a 62.6 ground ball percentage (minimum innings pitched)...teammates Clayton Richard (59.8) and Jhoulys Chacin (49.8) rank third and 15th, respectively. Has forced opponents to ground into 27 double plays this season, which ranks tied for first in the NL with Richard and tied for third in the Majors. Ranks first among all MLB pitchers with at least innings pitched with a 1.73 opponent ground into double play per nine innings ratio. SWING IT, LUIS: In his outing on 7/22 at SF, he hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth...it was his third triple in just 24 at-bats on the season, becoming the first Padre in club history to hit three triples in one season. Perdomo s three triples in his 24-at bats were more than all other pitchers in their combined 2,837 at-bats at that time...chc Jake Arrieta and PHI Jeremy Hellickson are the only other pitchers to record a triple so far this season, resulting in Perdomo having more triples than all other MLB pitchers in their current combined 4,051 at-bats. The last pitcher in MLB history to hit three triples in a season was Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins in the last pitcher to hit four triples in a season was PHI Robin Roberts in Recorded two extra-base hits in a game for the first time in his career on 5/15 at MIL his RBI triple in the second inning was the first triple of his career and he became the first Padre hurler to hit a three-bagger since Tyson Ross on 6/20/15 vs. ARI. To start the streak on 6/23 vs. DET, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs while striking out six...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings, allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also 5/31vs. CHC), the only Padres pitcher this season to record such a start.
