Celtic Prince - tightened for room and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Sommernachtstraum (GER) passing the 600m. Sly Romance (NZ) - rider Nick Hall was severely reprimanded for using his whip six times prior to the 100m. Jileks Spur - weakened from the 600m; a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Jacks n Kings - weakened from the 800m; a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Harry Coffey (Sommernachtstraum (GER)) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that passing the 600m he permitted his mount to angle out when insufficiently clear of Celtic Prince (NZ) which was tightened and requiring its rider Luke Nolen to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of Sommernachtstraum (GER). Harry Coffey had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 17 th and to expire at midnight April 22 nd, a total of seven race meetings (one metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Harry Coffeys guilty plea and excellent record (two suspensions in the last two years) and that the carelessness was in the low range. Race 2 - VALE PHIL SLY VOBIS GOLD INGOT - 1200 metres: Atlantic Express - had to be re-saddled behind the barriers resulting in a slight delay to the start of the race. Began awkwardly. Raced greenly and near the 800m was steadied off the heels of Summer Glen. Prince Of Venice - slow to begin and was then checked when tightened for room between Atlantic Express and Palma Merenti, which both shifted ground. Carlingford - knuckled at the start. Summer Glen - began awkwardly. Casque - slow to begin. If You Will - raced keenly through the middle stages. Hung out in the straight. Dissolute - raced wide without cover and keenly. Urban Ruler - rider Chris Symons stated from the 800m onwards his mount wanted to hang in and didnt feel right in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 3 - VOBIS GOLD DISTAFF - 1400 metres:
Whistle Baby - connections advised would be ridden further back today from the wide gate; settled towards the rear of the field. French Emotion - knuckled at the start. Antelucan - got its head up when over-racing in the middle stages. When questioned regarding his tactics today when the filly was restrained in the early stages, rider Craig Williams explained that at the fillys last preparation it did have a tendency to over-race, and after discussions with the trainer Mr John OShea it was agreed that from the awkward barrier draw, to try and be negative out of the gates in the hope to gain some cover. He added the tempo early in the race did not suit however once the pace increased passing the 1000m his mount travelled comfortably. Andrioli - over-raced in the early stages and had to be restrained off the heels of Afleet Esprit passing the 1200m. Post race endoscopy detected a degree of exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage which may have affected the fillys racing performance and a veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again. Written - when questioned regarding the tactics today, rider Jackie Beriman explained she was instructed by the trainer to ride the horse one off the fence in the early stages and then drift to three or four horses wider on the track from the 600m, and then navigate the middle of the track in the home straight as it was Mr Kents opinion that those sections of the track were superior and therefore she endeavoured to ride to those instructions. Marli Magic - rider Thomas Sadler was questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, given the Stewards had confirmed with trainer Mr John Sadler prior to the race that it was his intention to have the mare ridden back due to the quality of the field. Thomas Sadler explained his mount was quite fractious in the barriers prior to the start which was uncharacteristic, and he was then left with no other option in the early stages but to go forward given she was very keen to race. Thomas Sadler was fined $400 for using his whip eight times prior to the 100m. Race 4 - VOBIS GOLD MILE - 1600 metres: Sabkhat - after being fractious and rearing in the gates underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race however was then re-saddled which all resulted in a delay to the start of the race. Rider Craig Williams reported the gelding in his view is one-paced and was not suited when the tempo eased mid-race today. A further veterinary examination after the race also failed to reveal any abnormalities. Lordfontein - slow to begin. Red Bomber - raced three wide without cover from the 1000m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Iron Spider - held up for clear running from the 400m until near the 300m, and again passing the 200m and went to the line not fully tested.
Ashdam - rider Chris Symons stated his mount may be at the end of its preparation and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 5 - IRT VOBIS GOLD REEF - 1600 metres: Lake Jackson - slow to begin. Approved Anger - checked at the 1200m to avoid the heels of Bengal Cat (Thomas Sadler) which was shifting in. Near the 1100m was checked when Devilishly shifted out slightly before Woogie (Jake Noonan) then shifted in when not fully clear. Raced three wide without cover. Bengal Cat - Thomas Sadler was severely reprimanded for shifting in at the 1200m resulting in Approved Anger having to be checked to avoid Bengal Cats heels. Woogie - rider Jake Noonan was reprimanded for shifting in near the 1100m when not fully clear. Royal Rumble - at the 1100m had to be steadied for several strides to avoid the heels of El Greco. Palace Tycoon - rider Chris Symons reported his mount got further back than intended due to the gelding be unable to muster early speed. Race 6 - OWNER.RACING.COM VOBIS GOLD SPRINT - 1200 metres: The Quarterback - slow to begin. Iconic - slow to begin. Kirani - rider Nick Hall was issued with a severe reprimand for shifting in acutely near the 900m when not fully clear of Miss Promiscuity which was taken in off its course and Almighty Girl which was following having to shift out to avoid that horses heels. Ultimate Doom - trainer Mr Richard Laming was fined $200 for presenting the gelding to race without a noseroll, which is part of the declared gear and had to be fitted at the barriers. Wintonia - slow to begin. Spur On Gold - raced ungenerously at the rear of the field between the 1600m and the 1300m. Had to be steadied at the 400m to avoid the heels of London Fog. Firehouse Rock - rider Brad Rawiller explained there were no specific instructions to go forward today but from the wide barrier and with blinkers back on today he was left with no other option as his mount was keen to go forward. Bondeiger - performed below market expectations; rider James Winks stated his mount travelled well early but when asked for an effort in the straight failed to respond. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 8 - TROA ANNIVERSARY VASE (Listed) - 1400 metres: Sistine Demon - connections advised would be ridden more forward today resuming from a spell; settled in the lead. Dan Zephyr - Sprawled at the start. Master Reset - slow to begin. Checked at the 500m when tightened for room by Fast Cash which shifted in quickly before being straightened by its rider. Volontiers - raced ungenerously from the 1100m until the 900m. Lord Durante - eased at the 250m when tightened for room between Precious Gem and Enquare, which shifted out away from Jimando. Jimando - lost its off hind plate in running. Hamilton, Monday April 11 th 2016 Race 5 - GUS MACGILLIVRAY CARPENTER 0-58 HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Secret Wand - trainer Ms Julie Scott advised the mare was vetted at her stables following its disappointing performance and no abnormalities were detected. It is her intention to trial it in the next week or so and if it trials well to continue with its current preparation.
