Stewards' Reports Print Moonee Valley Manikato Stakes Date: Friday October 25 2013 Track: Dead 4 Penetrometer: 4.64 Weather: Fine Rail: True Stewards Panel: Mr T Bailey (Chair), Mr R Cram, Mr P Ryan, Mr J Hitchcock & Mr T Wilson Riding Changes / Jockey Information Medical Certificate produced today: D Stackhouse Other Comments / Explanations: A number of runners were late arriving on course due to traffic difficulties. Race 1 LF SIGNS HANDICAP - 3000 metres: Prior to the commencement of the meeting trainer Mr C Little advised that Tanah Lot (NZ) would be ridden more positive in this event due to the expected lack of speed. Tanah Lot (NZ) led. Inside the 100m D Lane (North Lodge) accidentally dropped his whip after it was struck by the whip of C Newitt (Jumpin Jack Cash). Pickme lost its off fore plate during the running of the race. D Lane (North Lodge) explained that whilst the gelding led at its last start, it does mix its racing pattern and was given no specific instructions tonight and placed his mount where comfortable in the early stages and therefore got further back than it did at its last start when it led. C Schofield (Why Not (GER)) could offer no real excuses, other than the gelding failed to run out the distance of today s event. A post race veterinary examination of Why Not (GER) failed to reveal any abnormal findings and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 2 TRIFORCE SUBZERO CHALLENGE HEAT 2-1500 metres: Consoling Amy was slow to begin. D Adam (Stanzior) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that approaching the first turn near the 1200m, he permitted his mount to shift in leaving insufficient room for two runners to his inside resulting in Auld Burns (GB) being taken in across the running of Purettan which was checked severely. D Adam had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight October 26 and to expire at midnight November 6, a total of twelve

race meetings (three metropolitan, nine provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account D Adam s guilty plea and exemplary riding record (has not been suspended for careless riding since 2009) and that the careless riding was in the high range. Consoling Amy laid out and raced wide without cover from the 800m. C Schofield (Auld Burns (GB)) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that near the 500m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Stanzior resulting in that horse being checked. C Schofield had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight October 27 and to expire at midnight November 3, a total of eight race meetings (two metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account C Schofield s guilty plea and the incident was in the low range. J Todd reported that Consoling Amy hung out throughout the race. D Browne (Black Cash) explained that his mount had to do a fair bit of work early which was detrimental with its big weight. A post race veterinary examination of Black Cash revealed the gelding to have the thumps and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 3 JEEP DON T HOLD BACK FILLIES CLASSIC (Group 2) - 1600 metres: Navajo Run (NZ) was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 8.52am and trainer Mr G Eurell will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of it. Federica jumped away awkwardly. So Bella Arella raced three wide without cover from the 1200m. Passing the 600m Fantome Gris was steadied off the heels of Lady Tatia when disappointed for running to the outside of that horse s heels. Near the 300m Federica, when giving ground, had to be steadied when tightened for room between Lady Tatia and Gypsy Diamond, which had shifted out slightly. D Dunn (Scratchy Bottom) stated that the filly needs further and may be going for a spell. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Lady Tatia had been galloped on the off hind leg. Post-race endoscopy of So Bella Arella detected a throat condition that may have affected the horse s racing performance. So Bella Arella was referred to the trainer Mr L Corstens s veterinary practitioner for further assessment and Mr Corstens must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the filly racing again. Race 4 CHANDLER MACLEOD CROCKETT STAKES (Listed) - 1200 metres: Holy Cow was slow to jump and then began awkwardly, brushing the right hand starting stall gate. Miss Steele jumped awkwardly and in onto Sense Of Hite (NZ). Shortly after the start Mezeray Miss was checked when tightened for room by Longchamp Belle, which shifted in away from Romancingthestone. Tweet over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Rounding the home turn Judicial Rock was held up for clear running until straightening. From passing the 100m Miss Steele was disappointed for clear running and went to the line not fully tested. Near the 50m Montsegur was steadied to avoid the heels of Sense Of Hite (NZ) which shifted out. K McEvoy was of the opinion that Montsegur had come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of Montsegur failed to reveal any abnormal findings and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 5 ESSENDON MAZDA 55 SECOND CHALLENGE HEAT 3-955 metres: After being fractious in its starting stall, Fab Fevola bounded at the start then knuckled on landing and during this incident Fab Fevola threw its head up and struck its rider D Moor in the face. Trainer Mr D Binaisse was advised that a formal warning would be placed on Fab Fevola s record for its barrier manners. In the early stages Lankan Rupee over-raced. Magnus Reign raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn Bel Price was disappointed for clear running until straightening. Hadronica was held up rounding the home turn and in the straight and went to the line untested. Passing the 100m Bel Price was tightened for room between Fab Fevola, which shifted out slightly, and Rifleman which shifted in before being straightened by its rider. Fab Fevola then shifted in quickly which resulted in Hadronica being checked to avoid its heels. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Fab Fevola had sustained an abrasion above its off side eye, its off shoulder, its off fore heel, its off hind fetlock and its near hind hock. A post race veterinary examination of Lankan Rupee revealed the gelding to have the thumps. Subsequent to the race D Moor was treated by the Club s doctor. D Moor will be examined by the Club s doctor at tomorrow s Yarra Valley meeting before being permitted to ride. Race 6 CITY JEEP HANDICAP - 2040 metres: After arriving on course Stella Lante was found to be lame in the near foreleg and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 6.52pm. Trainer Mr J Hyam will submit a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to Stella Lante races again. No betting deductions apply. M Rodd (Queenstown) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Keep De Rose (NZ) resulting in Keep De Rose (NZ) shifting in and causing crowding to Miss Outshine (NZ) which got unbalanced, and tightened the running of Bia Diamond which then shifted in and tightened the running of Freezy (IRE) onto the fence. M Rodd had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight October 26 and to expire at midnight November 4, a total of ten race meetings (two metropolitan, eight provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M Rodd s guilty plea and good record and that the careless riding was in the mid-range.

D Lane (Bia Diamond) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that approaching the 400m he did not have proper control of his mount and as a result permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Freezy (IRE) which had to be checked. D Lane had his licence to ride his races suspended for a period to commence at midnight October 26th and to expire at midnight November 4, provided he can gain released from his rides on October 27 and 28, a total of ten race meetings (two metropolitan, eight provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account D Lane s guilty plea and the incident was in the mid-range. Innocent Lady (NZ) hung in in the straight and had difficulty in obtaining clear running on the inside of Detox. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Freezy (IRE) was lame in the near foreleg and trainer Mr A Freedman was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to the mare racing again. A post race veterinary examination of Alzora failed to reveal any abnormal findings. A post race veterinary examination of Princess Peggy revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg and trainer Mr T McEvoy was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Princess Peggy racing again. Race 7 THE DRAIN MAN COUNTRY CUP - 1600 metres: After being placed in its barrier stall Harveys True Heart got its leg over the barrier partition. Harveys True Heart underwent a veterinary examination behind the start and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 9.17pm. All monies invested on Harveys True Heart to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 9.17pm:- 14 cents in the dollar for the Win (Esprit Rossa), 14 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 12 cents in the dollar for second place (Post D France), 14 cents in the dollar for third place (New York) and 16 cents in the dollar for doubles bets. Regular Aussie and King s A Star were both slow to begin. King s A Star raced wide and hung in. Midnight Glory also raced wide. Rounding the home turn Lord Durante and Constant Force were held up for clear running. Constant Force went to the finish not fully tested. Near the 100m New York, when obtaining a narrow run on the inside of Quick Shakes, was crowded of room by that gelding which was taken in slightly by Lord Durante which was taken in slightly by Leveraction before that gelding was straightened by its rider. As a result of this incident Quick Shakes which was giving ground, was checked. Race 8 SPORTINGET MANIKATO STAKES (Group 1) - 1200 metres: Moment of Change jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride (one length). Bel Sprinter also jumped away awkwardly and was also slow into stride (half a length). Moment of Change over-raced in the early stages.

Passing the 600m Rebel Dane and Samaready made contact for several strides due to Rebel Dane shifting in. Sessions raced wide without cover. D Dunn (Rebel Dane) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that between the 700m and the 600m he rode his mount in to a point where he unnecessarily crowded Samaready and made contact on two occasions. D Dunn had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight October 26 and to expire at midnight November 1, a total of seven race meetings (one metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account D Dunn s guilty plea and good record and that the incident was in the low range. Near the 300m Samaready shifted out and brushed Rebel Dane Rounding the home turn Moment Of Change was held up for clear running. Rounding the home turn Samaready laid out and inconvenienced Rebel Dane which was racing on its outside. Rounding the home turn Bel Sprinter was held up for clear running until straightening. Passing the 100m Shamexpress (NZ), when beginning to give ground, was eased to avoid the heels of Buffering which shifted out.
