Castelo Tightened near the 1200 metres. Magnapal Tightened near the 1200 metres losing its position. Dan Zephyr Taken hold of near the 50 metres. App Beau Mertens, rider of Onpicalo pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR137(a). The careless riding being that near the 1200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in causing tightening to Castelo which in turn caused tightening to Magnapal, resulting rider Nikita Beriman having to relinquish her position. App Beau Mertens, rider of Onpicalo, pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding under the provision of AR137(a). The careless riding being that in the straight he permitted his mount to shift in passing the 100 metres when insufficiently clear of Dan Zephyr resulting in rider Brandon Stockdale taking hold of his mount near the 50 metres to avoid Onpicalos heels. In assessing penalty the Stewards deemed both incidents to be in the mid-range category of careless riding and took into account the guilty pleas and that the penalty was to be served cumulatively with his suspension incurred at Sandown May 10, which commenced at the completion of todays meeting. In all of the circumstances Beau Mertens was suspended for ten meetings to be served concurrently for each charge which commences midnight 19 May, 2017 and to expire midnight 27 May, 2017 that being an additional two metropolitan and eight provincial meetings. Race 7 NOEL RUNDLE HANDICAP - 2000 metres: Billet Doux Stable representative for trainer Gordon Richards, Byron Cozimanis was severely reprimanded for presenting the gelding in the mounting yard without the surcingle. Ceylon (NZ) - As the gelding was being loaded into the barrier, backed out awkwardly dislodging rider Ben Allen. Underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Katsuro Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Checked severely near the 500 metres when avoiding the heels of Wise Hero and at the same time Highland Beat shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by Reata, which also shifted out contributing to this incident. Enigman Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Checked passing the 600 metres. Highland Beat Bumped on the hindquarters near the 500 metres. Held up for clear running from the 250 metres and went to the line not fully tested. Wise Hero Raced in restricted room from the 600 metres and near the 500 metres had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Bord De Gain. App Ben Allen reported the gelding travelled
well and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and would be better suited on tracks with more give. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery. Reata Lost ground near the 500 metres after becoming unbalanced and making contact with the hindquarters of Highland Beat. Bord De Gain App Ben Thompson stated that in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its current preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained abrasions to the near hind fetlock. Race 9 CATANACHS JEWELLERS HANDICAP - 1200 metres: Cinnamon Carter Stood flat footed and was slow to begin. Trainer Robbie Laing was notified that a warning has been placed on the geldings record for its barrier manners and should it perform similarly in future further action may be considered. Exclusive Lass Bumped heavily at the start with Belsapphire due to both horses shifting ground. Rider Dean Yendall reported that the mare hung in severely throughout placing him at a disadvantage.
