Race Horse Rider Replaced By Reason 8 Trade Commissioner Robbie Fradd James Winks Suspended Medical Certificate produced today: Dylan Dunn was examined by the doctor after arriving on course and was passed fit to ride. Did not attend meeting: Robbie Fradd Other Comments / Explanations: Steven Arnold was examined by the doctor after the running of Race 2 and was passed fit to continue riding. Race 1 - ROBERT TARANTO HANDICAP - 1100 metres: Radioactive - fractious and reared in its starting stall and underwent a veterinary examination behind the start and was passed suitable to race. Mister Miyagi - slow into stride. Laid in in the home straight and had to be straightened by its rider on a number of occasions. Pearl Star - began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover. Daisy Chain (NZ) - tightened at the start between Best Bold and Koolama Bay. Primo Pintxo - over-raced when being restrained in the middle stages. Devious Maid - over-raced in the middle stages. Zaaresque - raced wide without cover. Results - hung out rounding the home turn. More Than Most - held up rounding the home turn. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the final 100m. Best Bold - weakened over the concluding stages. Rider Luke Nolen could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than the colt had sustained some speedy cuts on the near hind leg.
Race 2 - BILL COLLINS HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Kalabek - fractious prior to the start and was momentarily slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Oridane - jumped awkwardly. Good Offa - raced ungenerously and got its head up in the middle stages. Shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages carrying Forgive and Forget out onto Kalabek which was also inclined to lay out; rider William Pike was notified to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion. Durendal - was momentarily held up rounding the home turn before changing course back to the inside to obtain clear running. More For Me - raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Secret Blend - weakened in the straight. Rider Patrick Moloney could offer no explanation other than his mount raced keen in front with Bullpit racing to his outside and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 3 - BERT BRYANT HANDICAP - 2000 metres: The Mexican - connections advised would be ridden forward from the wide gate. After beginning awkwardly raced wide in the early and middle stages before taking up a position outside the leader passing the 1000m. Triple Gold - connections advised would be ridden quieter today with the gear changes. Settled worse than mid-field. Held up rounding the home turn and upon straightening, when attempting to establish a run between General James (NZ) and Maldonado (NZ) where there was insufficient room, clipped heels and blundered and as a result bumped with Maldonado (NZ). Luke Nolen was severely reprimanded for attempting a run where there was insufficient room. General James (NZ) - equal third placegetter; prior to correct weight rider James Winks viewed the photo finish image before agreeing with the judges decision. Diamonds Uncut - bounded at the start and lost ground. Brouhaha - jumped inwards at the start bumping with Cuban Fighter. Pure Addiction - began awkwardly and lost ground. Magicool - jumped inwards at the start and bumped with Maldonado (NZ). Over-raced in the middle stages. Cuban Fighter - was tightened for room and had to be steadied approaching the 1200m when Magicool which when over-racing shifted in after being taken in slightly by General James (NZ) (James Winks) which shifted in. James Winks was notified to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. Over-raced in the middle stages.
Black Velveteen - passing the 800m shifted out and bumped with Mako Magic when attempting to improve its position. Rider Jake Bayliss could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mako Magic - rounding the home turn became unbalanced when bumped by Diamonds Uncut which had been carried out by Black Velveteen. Telaawa - bumped near the 150m when The Mexican shifted in. Race 4 - JACK ELLIOTT HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Kirani - jumped awkwardly. Northern Zhar - began awkwardly and lost ground. Jades Boy - after being caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward to take up a position outside the lead. Eye The World - over-raced in the early stages. Steadied near the 200m. Zupacharged - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Nesbo - at the 1100m was steadied when tightened for room between King Of Manners and Sir Berus which shifted in before being straightened. Sir Berus - approaching the 900m got its head up when over-racing. Oltre Finito (NZ) - raced three wide without cover. Pendles - held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Red Corner - had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages. Baron Archer - laid in in the home straight and had to be straightened on a number of occasions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Steven Arnold (Sir Berus) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Eye The World resulting in that gelding having to be steadied to avoid his mounts heels. Steven Arnold had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 4 th and to expire at midnight April 10 th, a total of seven race meetings (one metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Steven Arnolds guilty plea, overall good record and that the incident was in the low range. Dean Yendall (Pendles) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that near the 200m he rode his mount in to the inside of Jades Boy to obtain clear running and in doing so was not sufficiently clear of Sir Mask resulting in its rider having to take hold and ultimately losing its running. Dean Yendall had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 6 th and to conclude at midnight April 16 th, a total of eleven race meetings (two metropolitan, nine provincial). In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account Dean Yendalls guilty plea, overall good record and that the incident was in mid-range.
Sir Mask - tightened for room near the 200m. Race 5 - GEOFF MURPHY HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Written Dash - to be ridden forward today as opposed to its last start where it was ridden back and failed to finish off. Went forward and raced wide. Japhils - connections advised would be ridden forward today with the addition of blinkers. Ridden forward. Zambezi Diamond - connections advised would be ridden quieter; settled worse than mid-field. Sea Spray - slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Sebrella - slow to begin. Near the 1000m got its head up when being steadied. Hennessy Rock - jumped awkwardly and shifted out. Lost its near hind plate in running. Calusa - over-raced and got its head up in the middle stages. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Written Dash - raced wide without cover. Rider Dean Yendall reported that in his view the filly was not suited to racing forward in the three wide position. Not A Happy Camper - held up behind London Lolly which was giving ground approaching and rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Pattini - approaching the 200m when laying in was inconvenienced by Calusa which shifted ground inwards. Then continued to lay in. Race 6 - THESHARK.COM.AU HANDICAP - 1100 metres: Zedi Knight - late withdrawal by order of Stewards at 2.38pm. After receiving a report from the Compliance Assurance Team, Stewards interviewed trainer Mr Brendan McCarthy and on the evidence before them, Zedi Knight was a late scratching at 2.38pm by order of the Stewards acting under AR178E(2). An inquiry in relation to this matter has been adjourned to a date to be fixed. Pyrrolic - first start new trainer. Connections advised would be ridden quieter today than at its previous start. Slow to begin and ridden accordingly. Raced wide without cover. Taddei Tondo - slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and again passing the 200m and near the 100m had to be steadied over the heels of Search Squad (NZ) to obtain clear running. Search Squad (NZ) - inconvenienced at the start when Boomwaa shifted out. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m. Lonrockstar - over-raced in the early and middle stages. River Delta - held up for the majority of the home straight. Boomwaa - accidentally dropped his whip near the 150m.
General Jackson - near the 100m had to be steadied by its rider when Agent (NZ) shifted in. Rider Ben Melham accidentally dropped his whip near the 100m. Race 7 - LE PINE FUNERALS EASTER CUP (Group 3) - 2000 metres: Escado - began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover from the 1200m. Sertorius - inconvenienced at the start when The Cleaner shifted out. Shoreham - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Jacquinot Bay - raced three wide in the early and mid stages before being permitted to stride forward and sit outside the lead passing the 1200m. Tightened near the 100m between Backbone and Marksmanship (IRE) which shifted out. Lost its off fore plate during the race. Marksmanship (IRE) - held up for the majority of the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested. Lost its near fore plate in running. Backbone - raced in restricted room passing the 100m. The Cleaner - rider Steven Arnold was of the opinion that the hard runs leading up to todays event may have taken their toll on the gelding. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and trainer Mr Mick Burles advised the gelding would now be spelled. Race 8 - VICTORIA HANDICAP (Group 3) - 1400 metres: Hosting - tightened at the start by Gracious Prospect which was carried out by Sistine Demon. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until passing the 100m. Watermans Bay - bumped at the start by Disposition, which jumped awkwardly and shifted in. Held up rounding the home turn. Trainer Mr Daniel Morton was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance and he explained that the gelding was slightly jaded after its Flemington run and for that reason was then freshened up before, recuperated quickly and trained well in the week prior to today. Disposition - jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Watermans Bay. Steadied by its rider passing the 1000m when The Peak (Stephen Baster) shifted in. Stephen Baster was severely reprimanded. Venture On - began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages. Aeronautical - slow away. Gallante (IRE) - knuckled shortly after the start. Shifted out abruptly near the 1200m when over-racing The Peak - raced wide without cover for the majority. Trade Commissioner (IRE) - held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Inconvenienced over the concluding stages by Hosting which was carried out by Amorino.
Calvin Williams (FR) - rider Brad Rawiller was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR145 for returning to scale in excess of a half kilogram over his declared riding weight. Stewards took into account his good record under this rule. Race 9 - NOEL RUNDLE HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Winta Chiller - slow to begin. Avas Delight - slow to begin. Soosa Rama - began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 100m. Its One - over-raced in the middle stages and had to be steadied off the heels of Soosa Rama approaching the 1000m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until straightening. Chiquada (NZ) - raced wide without cover. Nadeem Lass - laid out severely over the concluding stages and inconvenienced Whistle Baby out onto Lady Cumquat and also carried Bippo No Bungus wider on the track. Whistle Baby - when making ground had to be steadied at the 100m when taken out off its course by Nadeem Lass (Matthew Allen) which shifted out; Matthew Allen was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when not fully clear. Vibrant Rouge - rider Damien Thornton was of the opinion his mount may be better suited to a track with more give. Lady Lakkshmi - rider Dylan Dunn reported his mount was slow to begin after turning its head after the start was effected and for this reason was unable to take up its usual forward position; and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Hai Lil - rider Jye McNeil reported there may be something amiss with the mare and a post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had been galloped on the near fore fetlock and the off hind pastern and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Refer - improved performance relative to its last start at Flemington on March 14 th and trainer Mr Heath Conners explained the mare was positioned too forward for his liking at Flemington and raced wide without cover and for this reason weakened in the straight and he added that the mare had trained on well since and there had been no alteration to its training.
