C Austin Hedges knocked his 16th home run of the season...he logged three RBI last night, and it was the seventh time this season that the Padres' backstop has had threeor-more RBI in a game. INSIDE THE SERIES: Last night's victory snapped the Cardinals' six-game winning streak against the Padres, dating back to April 23 of last season...until last night, the Cardinals had also won six consecutive home games over the Padres dating back to July 4, 2015... following the series, the clubs will meet again at Petco Park when the Padres host St. Louis for a four-game series from Sept. 4-7 IN JHOULYS WE TRUST: Tonight's starter, RHP Jhoulys Chacin owns a 1.86 ERA (17 ER, 82.1) in 13 starts at Petco Park this season, which is the second-lowest home ERA in the majors behind only WSH Gio Gonzalez s 1.79 ERA...per ELIAS, his 1.86 ERA is the lowest of any player s first 13 home starts as a Padre in the club s history...chacin looks to improve on the road, as he owns a 6.90 ERA (46 ER, 60.0 IP) in 12 road starts this season...in five of his last six road starts, however, he has allowed three-or-less earned runs, and in those six starts, he owns a 3.74 ERA (14 ER, 33.2 IP). The Padres have won six of the last nine games in which Chacin has started...over that span, Chacin is 5-1 with a 2.61 ERA (15 ER, 51.2 IP) with a.198 opponent batting average. WELCOME TO THE SOLY SHOW: INF Yangervis Solarte recorded a career-high six RBI last night, the most by any Padre in game this season...his three extra-base hits also tied his career-high in a game (first: September 3, 2015 vs. LAD)...his eight total bases last night tied his season-high (also: June 17 at MIL). One of Solarte's two doubles came on the first pitch, and he is hitting.383 (18-for-47) with a.638 slugging percentage this season when swinging at the first pitch, with six doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI. He is a career.308 hitter vs. St. Louis (24-for-78)...in those 20 games, he has five doubles, a triple, a six homers and 15 RBI. BACK ME UP: In the Padres last eight games since August 13, the San Diego bullpen has forced opponents bats to a.180 average, which is the fourth-lowest average in the Majors in that time...the 'pen has fanned 33 batters and posted a 2.55 ERA (7 ER, 24.2 IP) in those eight games, which ranks as the fifth-best ERA in the National League in that time. WHAT A RELIEF: Last night, the Padres bullpen combined to throw 3.1 innings of one-hit ball, striking out six batters without allowing a single run...rhp Craig Stammen faced one batter in the sixth and received his first win of 2017 (and his first since August 24, 2014 vs. SF, while with WSH). RHP Phil Maton walked a career-high three batters last night, but he struck out two and did not allow a hit or a run in his 0.2 innings of work...rhp Carter Capps also logged his first strikeout in a Padres uniform...capps has made hitless and scoreless appearances in two consecutive games, and the last time he did so dates back to July of 2015. PADRES ON DECK: Last night, LHP MacKenzie Gore allowed a run and struck out seven in his sixth Arizona Rookie League start...gore owns a 0.90 ERA, having allowed two runs on 13 hits and four walks with 31 strikeouts in 20.0 innings...tuesday marked his first professional loss. DH Blake Hunt went 4-for-7 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI as the Padres-2 combined for 20 hits in a 19-6 ARL win over the Royals. RHP Henry Henry allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings for short-season Single-A Tri-City. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On August 23, 2005, the Padres defeated Houston 2-0 in 1 hour and 53 minutes, which was the fastest game ever played at Petco Park...RHP Jake Peavy allowed four hits and struck out six in a complete-game shutout.
