FORGET IT, JAKE, IT'S CHINATOWN: The Padres fell 9-2 last night to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the series...the Friars look to avoid the sweep in their last matchup in Chavez Ravine until May 25-27, 2018...starter Dinelson Lamet worked 5.0 innings of four-hit and fourrun ball, fanning seven and walking a career-high-tying six batters (also: Aug. 20 vs. WSH)...Lamet averaged 10.94 strikeouts per nine innings, which is the fourth-best mark by a rookie all-time (minimum 20 starts). Rookie Christian Villanueva hit his fourth career home run in his ninth appearance at the Major League level...he went 2-for-4 for his third multi-hit effort. Jabari Blash logged his sixth multi-hit game this season and the first of his career against the Dodgers...it marks the first time he has ever hit in consecutive games against the Dodgers. WOLVERINES GETTING THE START: Former University of Michigan attendees Clayton Richard and Rich Hill will face off tonight in a battle of the southpaws...richard was drafted by the White Sox in the 8th round of the 2005 MLB June Amateur Draft, and Hill went in the 4th round of the 2002 MLB June Amateur Draft, both out of Michigan...Richard was a former quarterback for the Wolverines (in which he went 8-15 for 52 yards as a backup quarterback in 2004 and earned Big Ten all-academic honors in 2015)...he was Michigan s first two-sport baseball player since basketball s Robbie Reid (1998-99). DON'T LOOK NOW, HE'S STREAKING: With his single to center field in the third, Manuel Margot set a career-high nine-game on-base streak, batting.324 (11-for-34) with two doubles, a triple and four stolen bases since September 16...Margot has also hit safely in eight of those nine games with three multi-hit efforts. HOMER HAPPY: This season, the Friars have hit 187 home runs, the most homers in a single season in franchise history (breaking 2016's former record-setting 177 homers)...per ELIAS, 45.7 percent of the runs the Padres have scored this season has been via the long ball. THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE ROOKIE: With his homer last night, Christian Villanueva (VEE-ah noo-eh-vah) became the third Padres rookie to ever homer four-or-more times in his first nine career games...coincidentally, the other two (Hunter Renfroe and former Padre and current LAD Yasmani Granal) not only played in the same game, but they both homered as well...villanueva is the only player in 2017 to hit four homers in the first nine games of his career.
