VRC @ Flemington Date: Saturday January 28 th 2017 Track: Good 3 (upgraded at 11.55am prior to Race 1) Going Stick: 9.4 Weather: Fine Rail: +6m entire circuit Stewards Panel: Mr Rob Montgomery (Chairman), Mr Peter Ryan, Mr Sam Cochrane, Mr Rex Terp & Ms Sam Davison (Cadet) Race 1 - Doriemus Handicap - 1100 metres: Unique Lovely - began awkwardly and was then hampered by Scappare which shifted out. Vainglorious - began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. The filly shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a Steward. Write Da Script (NZ) - began awkwardly. Rider Luke Nolen was of the opinion his mount was not suited to racing down the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Jennifer Lynn - rider Brad Rawiller stated it was not his or the stables intention to lead however after beginning extremely well found himself in a forward position. Pearl Congenial - rider Craig Williams was of the opinion his mount was not suited to racing down the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Race 2 - owner.racing.com Handicap - 1400 metres: Gingie - correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether or not the mare had been afforded a fair start. It was established that after being restless in its starting stall, Gingie turned its head to the left as the start was effected, stood flat footed and lost considerable ground (four lengths). As Stewards deemed the mare had not been denied a fair start and correct weight was declared.

Diamond Baroness - trainer Mr Ciaron Maher was fined $200 for presenting the mare into the mounting yard seven minutes prior to the advertised starting time of the event. Began awkwardly. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that the mare had sustained a laceration to its off hind fetlock. Deja Blue - began awkwardly. New Summer Night - began extremely awkwardly and as a result lost considerable ground. Held up rounding the home turn before gaining clear running near the 300m. Cats Wish - over-raced in the early stages getting its head up on several occasions. Hung out for the majority. Rider Craig Williams was of the opinion the mare may be better suited to a drop in class and racing in a clockwise direction. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. Ample On Offa - raced wide without cover. Fast Approaching - laid out under pressure in the straight. Takeover (NZ) - approaching the winning post was steadied when tightened for room between Fast Approaching which shifted out marginally and Cats Wish. Race 3 - ATA Celebrates 50 Years Handicap - 1400 metres: Mr Sneaky - connections advised would be ridden further forward than last start; slow to begin and settled in a mid-field position. Oak Door - bounded on jumping away. After being caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward to obtain the lead near the 900m. Laid out under pressure in the straight. Widgee Turf - after being marginally slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between Lycurgus which was taken out by Mr Sneaky which began awkwardly, and Electric Charlie which began awkwardly and shifted in. Held up rounding the home turn and was unable to improve its position until passing the 400m. Toorak Cowboy - rider Patrick Moloney was of the opinion the gelding may be better suited on a track with more give. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 4 - @FlemingtonVRC Handicap - 1600 metres:

Aurum Spirit - slow to begin. Hung out over the concluding stages. When questioned as to the reason why he didnt ride his mount out to the winning post, apprentice Beau Mertens explained that he felt that the gelding was amiss in its action he further explained that he had informed trainer Mr Robbie Griffiths after the race. Mr Griffiths confirmed this and added that he also thought the gelding may have jarred up. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Beau Mertens was fined $300 under the provisions of AR140(b) for failing to notify the Stewards on return to scale that there was something amiss with the gelding. Corregio (NZ) - slow to begin. Hokkaido - shifted out at the start and made contact with Lola Lu. After passing the 200m raced in restricted room to the inside of Jest For The Road, which had a tendency to lay in under pressure. Rider Damian Lane explained the gelding began extremely well and as a result raced in a more forward position. Jest For The Road - after being caught wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward to obtain a positon outside the leader near the 1100m. When over-racing in the early stages got its head up on several occasions. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Lola Lu - bumped at the start by Hokkaido. Kourkam (FR) - began awkwardly resulting in rider Sairyn Fawke becoming unbalanced. Goldstream (ITY) - after being caught wide in the early stages when over-racing, was permitted to stride forward to obtain the lead near the 1400m. Damian Lane stated that his intention was to settle in a mid-field positon with cover however due to the lack of speed in the race he found himself more forward than intended. Leica Day - after being caught wide in the early stages, was permitted to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1400m. Rider Michael Dee could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery. Dandy Gent - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rider Dwayne Dunn was of the opinion the gelding would be better suited over further distance.

Master Of Arts (NZ) - held up from the 500m and was unable to gain clear running until approaching the 200m. Swacadelic (GER) - rider Damien Oliver stated that shortly after straightening he felt something was significantly wrong with the gelding and he therefore eased it down. An irregular heart rhythm was detected on post race veterinary examination. As this is the second time the gelding has had atrial fibrillation, it must be subject to examination by a veterinarian with specialist qualifications in equine internal medicine, prior to starting in any race or trial. The examination should include echocardiography, electrocardiography at rest and at exercise and any other examination that the examining veterinarian requests. Prior to starting in any race, and pending Stewards receiving a satisfactory veterinary report from the specialist examination, Swacadelic (GER) must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in an organised trial of at least 1000m and have a satisfactory veterinary report that includes the results of cardiac auscultation within thirty minutes of completion of the trial. Held up for a run from near the 400m until approaching the 200m. Casque - began awkwardly. After passing the 100m when giving ground, was steadied off the heels of Land Of Plenty (Steven Arnold) which shifted out when improving; Steven Arnold was advised to exercise more care. Shadow Fighter - tightened and lost its rightful running near the 200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Cory Parish (Fuhryk) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that he permitted his mount to shift out to obtain a run near the 200m when insufficiently clear of Barthelona tightening that horse out onto Shadow Fighter resulting in both of those horses being tightened out onto Deal Master and having to be checked. Stewards concede at this time Deal Master shifted in slightly. Cory Parish had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight January 28 th and to expire at midnight February 9 th, a total of fifteen race meetings (four metropolitan, eleven

provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the slight shift from Deal Master and that the carelessness was in the high range.
