A Saucy Snitzel rider D Stackhouse advised that he was instructed to settle the filly where comfortable from its wide barrier and after having travelled a short distance was unable to muster sufficient speed to go forward and therefore elected to ride A Saucy Snitzel off the pace near the rear of the field rather than race wide. Romancingthestone - rider S Arnold reported that the filly was disappointing when weakening in the straight after having a good run throughout. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 2 ART SERIES HOTEL GROUP HANDICAP - 3000 metres: Big Ben Chimes - hampered near the 200m, on the first occasion, when taken out off its course by Brayroan (NZ) (G Boss) that shifted out to go forward when the pace slowed. Ambers Kingdom - faltered near the 1000m and then passing the 800m broke down and in doing so shifted out and made contact with Karata which unbalanced that mare. Ambers Kingdom was then eased out of the race. Ambers Kingdom was subsequently humanely euthanised after suffering a fracture to its off hind leg. Thubiaan (USA) - raced four wide without cover from the 800m. Geeceegazza - raced three wide without cover throughout. Prie Dieu - checked near the 100m when disappointed for a run on the inside of Princess Mossman which, after initially shifting out and making contact with Tully Costa (H Coffey), was then taken in by that
mare. H Coffey was reprimanded and notified that he would be expected to prevent his mounts from shifting ground when in similar circumstances in future. Post race endoscopy of Thorn Star (NZ) detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horse s racing performance and trainer Mr D O Brien was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Thorn Star (NZ) racing again. Race 5 CITY JEEP COMPASS HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Prior to correct weight L Meech, rider of Chinzia (sixth placegetter), viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Stewards were also satisfied there there was insufficient grounds for a successful objection. Esprit De Bullet - jumped awkwardly. Fab Fevola - jumped awkwardly and shortly after this was checked off the heels of Vatican which was shifting in. Flash Of Doubt - slow to begin. Chinzia - checked when tightened for room near the 900m between Fab Fevola which shifted to the inside of Vatican and Planet Voyage which shifted out. God s Window when over racing raced tightly between Planet Voyage and King Cotton near the 900m due to King Cotton shifting out and then near the 700m had to be steadied when tightened for room between Planet Voyage and Impulse Buy which both shifted ground. Aregee McLaren - racing keenly and had to be checked near the 600m to avoid the heels of Vatican after getting its head up and being taken out slightly by God s Window. Vatican - raced wide without cover. King Cotton - eased to avoid the heels of Vatican near the 300m when weakening. Chinzia - checked to avoid the heels of Aregee McLaren near the 50m. Apprentice P Moloney (Aregee McLaren) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that near the 50m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Chinzia resulting in that mare having to be checked to avoid his heels. P Moloney s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of ten race meetings to commence midnight December 10 and to expire midnight December 18, or for a ten meeting suspension subject to the outcome of his appeal to RADB regarding a careless riding suspension incurred at Kyneton on Friday November 22. In arriving at this penalty
Stewards deemed the incident to be in the mid-range and took into account his guilty plea and good race riding record prior to the Kyneton race meeting. Planet Voyage lost its off hind plate during the race. King Cotton - An irregular heart rhythm was detected on post race veterinary examination. King Cotton shall not start in any race until the Stewards have received a satisfactory veterinary report. Was checked near the 300m, when weakening, when tightened for room between Electric Fusion and Zephyron (NZ), which both shifted ground. Republic Lad which was following had to be steadied. Mintaro (NZ) - rider S Baster attributed the poor performance to the gelding over-racing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Magnus Reign - had difficulty obtaining a clear run rounding the home turn. Muchos Respectos (NZ) - steadied off the heels of Unscrupulous near the 100m due to Unscrupulous (M Zahra) shifting in before being straightened.
