PT PETCO PARK SAN DIEGO, CA RHP LUIS PERDOMO (2-4, 4.56) vs. RHP BARTOLO COLÓN (2-7, 7.78) GAME 78 HOME GAME 40 FM 94.9 XEMO 860 FOX SPORTS SAN DIEGO San Diego Padres Communications Department 100 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101 (619) 795-5000 All Padres game information, including Game Notes and rosters, is available at http://padrespressbox.com. ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Padres dropped their fifth consecutive game to the Braves this year, and last night's game marked the fourth time the Friars have been shut out this season... Atlanta has bested San Diego in each of their last nine meetings (the previous seven in Atlanta). Though RHP Jhoulys Chacin was saddled with the loss, he logged his ninth quality start (now tied with tonight's starter, RHP Luis Perdomo, for the team-lead), and he is now 4-2 in eight starts at home this season with a 1.83 ERA (11 ER, 54.0 IP) his home ERA is the second-lowest among Major League starters. Braves' rookie Sean Newcomb notched his first career Major League win on the road and became the first pitcher in Atlanta franchise history to record four consecutive quality starts to begin his career. INF Wil Myers logged his 19th multi-hit game with his double off the top of the right field wall in the first inning and his single to left in the third, tying INF Yangervis Solarte for the team-lead in multi-hit games...inf Carlos Asuaje recorded his second multi-hit game since being recalled from Triple-A El Paso on June 23rd. SNAP THAT STREAK: Per STATS, with nine consecutive wins against the Friars, the Braves are tied for the NL's second-longest active winning streak against any opponent Despite the Braves' nine-game winning streak against the Padres, San Diego has the best winning record against the Braves at home versus any single opponent since 2013 (minimum of five games)...they have owned an 11-2 record against Atlanta at Petco Park in that time (STATS as well). ELIAS SAYS: The Padres have won their last 104 home games in which they led entering the ninth inning dating back to July 2014...it is the longest active streak in the ML. The last MLB team to have a streak of 104 or more wins when leading at home after the eighth inning is the Kansas City Royals, who won 105 straight home games in which they led entering the ninth from 2013 to 2015 (ELIAS). PERD IS THE WORD: RHP Luis Perdomo faces the Braves for the first time in his career... in his last start on June 23 vs. Detroit, he tossed 6.0 innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs while striking out six and walking five...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings and allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also: 5/31 vs. CHC). Also in his last start, the Dominican Republic native combined with the bullpen to throw the club's fourth shut-out win of the season...he walked a season-high five batters and tied his season-low for hits in a game (other: 5/31 vs. CHC). Perdomo has made three consecutive quality starts, owning a 2-1 record with a 2.41 ERA (17 ER, 18.2 IP) with 14 strikeouts and nine walks in that time. RENAISSANCE PLAYER: Per STATS, INF Wil Myers is one of just four players in the Majors leading his team in both home runs and stolen bases...myers' 15 home runs are tied with teammate OF Hunter Renfroe, and his nine stolen bases lead the club...only ARI Paul Goldschmidt leads his club with more homers (18) and swiped bags (13) than Myers. WHAT A RELIEF: Since June 11th, Padres relievers have posted the second-best ERA in the Majors at 2.28 (11 ER, 43.1 IP) over the last 14 games...they have accrued six saves, posted a 43-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio and held opponents to a.196 batting average. The Padres pitching staff as a whole has forced the second-most ground balls in the Majors (991), behind only the Colorado Rockies (1,020). SMALL BALL: As a team, the Padres have 27 sacrifice hits this season, a mark that ranks second-most in the Majors, behind Colorado's 36. BUSS-TING OUT: Today, El Paso OF Nick Buss was selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team...Buss is batting.380 with five homers and 26 RBIs in 55 games played this season...the 30th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will take place in Tacoma on Wednesday, July 12. PADRES ON DECK: The six Padres' prospects in the Double-A Texas League All-Star Game Tuesday night all contributed to the South s 10-3 win...the four righties from San Antonio all appeared and combined to allow one hit and a walk with six strikeouts over 3.2 scoreless innings. LHP Logan Allen and RHP David Bednar were promoted from Single-A Fort Wayne to Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore. C Luis Campusano-Bracero, the Padres second-round pick in the June draft, homered in a second straight game Tuesday in the Arizona Rookie League. Earlier today, RHP Jacob Nix threw his first career complete-game shutout for Lake Elsinore, tallying 11 strikeouts and allowing only two hits. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On June 28, 1999, Damian Jackson tied the Padres singlegame record with five stolen bases and the Padres set a single-game franchise record with nine in an 8-7 victory over Colorado at Qualcomm Stadium...on June 28, 2001, Tony Gwynn announced at a Qualcomm Stadium press conference that the 2001 season would be his last. On June 29, 1979, renamed the "San Diego Chicken," Ted Giannoulas made his Padres return in a re-hatching during a 4-1 loss to the Astros before a crowd of 41,822 at San Diego Stadium...on June 29, 1995, CF Steve Finley drove-in five runs with a pair of homers in the Padres 7-6 win at San Francisco.
