The straight driveline ensures efficient power transmission to the V-belts. 6 Smooth crop flow. 4 The large spaces between the mowing drums provide an effective conveyance action and uniform crop flow. The flow can be further optimised and adapted to the crop with a selection of optional conveyance accessories. 5 Impressive the mowing drum. Our CORTO mowers feature reliable technology that has long proved its worth in practice. They are powered via a hexagonal shaft fitted to a generously dimensioned bevel gear transmission. This ensures smooth running, and is protected from wear through continuous lubrication in an oil bath. The rigid central shaft transfers any impacts on the mower drum directly to the main frame structure. This protects the drive from impact loads, which keeps the mowing discs rotating freely at all times, as well as protecting the grass cover and preventing forage contamination. Depending on the model, the cutting height is either infinitely adjustable or can be set using spacer rings. Additional mowing discs can be used to raise the cutting height by a further 25 mm for operation over particularly damp and hilly terrain

7 A mower fully equipped to help protect your soil. ACTIVE FLOAT suspension Frictional resistance becomes rolling resistance. ACTIVE FLOAT hydropneumatic suspension is standard equipment on all CONTOUR rear mowers from CLAAS, and is also available as an option on front mowers. This suspension system transfers the weight of the mower from the grass cover to the tractor. It also reduces lateral forces during operation on slopes, for increased riding comfort and improved mowing quality. As an alternative to ACTIVE FLOAT hydropneumatic suspension, adjustable spring suspension is also available. Getting the setting right. The rule of thumb for ACTIVE FLOAT. No two fields are the same. With ACTIVE FLOAT, you are able to adapt quickly and easily to changing conditions, such as wet spots or dry hilltops. The ground pressure of the mower can be adjusted with a single-acting spool valve, even while you are working. The currently selected value is displayed on a pressure gauge visible from the cab. Set the suspension as high as possible, restrict the load to what is absolutely necessary. Full mower suspension is particularly recommended at field edges, so that it literally "floats" over uneven ground, and delivers a clean cut. CORTO mowers are designed to durably withstand maximum loads while consistently delivering a top-quality cutting result. They are easy to use, operating reliably in all kinds of conditions. All maintenance work can be carried out quickly and easily, and attaching and detaching implements has never been easier. The protective covers consist of several parts, so a damaged section can be quickly and inexpensively replaced. User-friendly implement attachment. Different mower types require different solutions. For example, CONTOUR rear mowers have double guide cones and different hitching heights to simplify the attachment task. All front mowers are attached with a practical quick coupling 'A' frame. The folding protective cover ensures easy access when required. The drums are super-easy to access for cleaning and maintenance work in all models. Convenient hooks are provided to secure the protective covers. Never in the way. Minimum maintenance requirement. For your peace of mind, during and after the end of the working day, unfastened components such as wiring, the drive shaft, hydraulic hoses or the control cable are firmly secured to the mower. The drive shaft universal joints are especially low-maintenance, with a 250-h lubrication interval. Blades can be changed quickly. Loves the challenge. Blades can be replaced in no time at all, using the fitting lever provided. A weatherproof blade box integrated in the mower provides convenient storage for replacement blades and the fitting lever. The CORTO 3200 F PROFIL front mower is fitted as standard with infinitely variable cutting height adjustment, via a fixing lever. This feature is also available as optional equipment on the CORTO 310 F and CORTO 285 F. Cutting adjustment for rear mower units is via the upper link. On all mowers in the CORTO series, there is also the option of raising the cutting height by 6 mm wtih a spacer ring, or by 25 mm with a high-cut bottom disc. On track. All CORTO rear mower units are fitted with adjustable lower link pins, for adjusting the tractor track width. The user has the choice of using the entire working width or setting the optimum overlap in combination with a front mower unit. All in a day's work. Uniform swath. One of the key strengths of the CORTO is its versatility. Bulky masses of material, wet, laid or heterogeneous crops, or uneven terrain the mower takes it all in its stride, leaving behind a clean cut and uniform swaths. The machine is also robust, easy to operate and very quiet running. Swathing discs form the forage crop into a uniform swath. Two additional swathing discs, available as optional equipment, further reduce the swath width. Individual attachment enables them to bypass obstacles in three dimensions of movement. The PROFIL kinematics system enables the CORTO to adjust to the ground contours in three dimensions, independently of the tractor trajectory. The mower is attached on an oscillating support, for precise and ultra-fast adjustment to the lateral contours. Pivot point close to the ground. Placement of the pivot close to the ground provides reliable longitudinal contour following. The low floor trajectory prevents the structure from digging into the ground. This protects the grass cover, and also allows higher mowing speeds. The suspension of the FLEXGUARD rear collision protection system allows the side protective covers to move in any direction in the event of a collision, preventing damage to the structures. Easy maintenance. A visual marker enables you to check the belt tensioning. If required, you can readjust the tension from outside, without having to open the guard. Clean cut. Andreas Eldracher, who farms in the mountainous Allgäu region, uses a CORTO 3200 F PROFIL in tandem with a DISCO 8400 CONTOUR: "We had no hesitation about buying a CORTO again. Four large drums with a consistently uniform conveyor action and two adjustable swathing discs produce narrow, uniform swaths. A second pair of swathing discs can be fitted as optional equipment, for an even narrower swath. The compact design of the CORTO front mowers makes them ideal for sloping terrain, or for use with smaller tractors, a narrow pick-up or a loader wagon. Compact on the road. One component two benefits. Ground-contour following in three dimensions. With their centre of gravity located close to the tractor, CORTO front mowers travel safely on the road, without any bouncing problems. The protective covers on the side can be folded back, giving the mower a transport width of under 3.00 m. This compact design also gives the driver a clear view of the road. An adjustment lever on the CORTO 310 F and 285 F allows individual setting of the cut height, and adjustment to all sorts of different conditions. The lever is also used to secure the mower unit for road transport. The patented spring-suspended front kinematics provide optimum ground-contour following both laterally and longitudinally to the direction of travel. This protects the grass cover and prevents any forage soiling problems. The cut is consistently clean, across the entire working width. The mower units in the CONTOUR model series are hitched at the centre of gravity, so they can pivot freely and adapt to the ground contours. The correct adjustment height is indicated with arrow markings on the booms. The CONTOUR mower has mechanical breakback protection. The attachment is inclined at an angle of 15, so that in the event of a collision with an object the mower is lifted up and back. Mowing can then continue after a quick reset operation. Individual adjustment to the tractor. Solid construction. Copes with any slope. Powerful drive. With adjustable attachment bolts, you can adapt the mower unit individually according to the tractor, and for different track widths. 16 A safe journey home at the end of the day. CORTO 3200 CONTOUR Out of harm's way. The mower unit is folded in with a double ram mechanism, with gentle braking before it reaches the end point. This allows a folding operation to be carried out safely even in hilly terrain. Road transport position: 120. The 120 road transport position and centre of gravity located close to the tractor result in optimum stability and a compact transport height. The angled position leaves an unobstructed view in the mirror. The uniform rear axle loading helps to prevent any bouncing problems on the road. These features enhance safety and manoeuvrability on the road. Unhitching made easy. Safe and secure. The ACTIVE FLOAT ram is deactivated with the release lever. The mower can then be quickly and easily detached, with no need to discharge the pressure from the system. The mower unit is also automatically mechanically secured in the road transport position. A hydraulic road transport lock system is also available as optional equipment, with no need for an extra spool valve. With a flick of the wrist. Tidied away. The CORTO 3200 CONTOUR is equipped with KENNFIXX, making the attachment and removal of hydraulics hoses simplicity itself. A practical support frame option is also available, with or without rollers, so that the machine can be parked away in the compact transport position when the job is finished. The support trestle on rollers is ideal wherever space is at a premium, allowing the mower to be moved easily without the aid of a tractor

17 Keep your eyes on the field ahead you know you're protected from the rear. CORTO 220 / 190 Reliable protection from object collision damage. Easily adjustable. The breakback device helps to prevent any damage to the mower. If the mower hits an obstacle, it swings back automatically. To carry on, all you need to do is back up the tractor. Adjustable mounting bolts enable the mower to be adapted to the respective tractor track width. This allows you to make full use of the mower's working width or create a perfect overlap in combination with a front mower. Relieving the load. The CORTO 220 and CORTO 190 can also be fitted with spring suspension as optional equipment. The two halves of the mower are each supported by a coil spring. The two springs interact to maintain an even more uniform ground pressure across the entire cutting width. This gives you constant mower suspension and optimum ground-contour following, even in difficult operating conditions. Further benefits include less frictional resistance, protection of the grass cover and an even cut. Foldback position. For road transport, the mower unit is simply folded back into the required position, for easy negotiation of even narrow or low farm access entrances. An integrated jack allows convenient placement in the road transport position, so that the mower can simply be backed into its parking position, even in a narrow shed. All the way up. A range of insert positions are available for individual setting of the lift height on the bottom links. This allows more ground clearance in the headland. 18 The Wildretter wildlife rescue project. The Wildretter wildlife rescue project Every year in spring. Wildlife is particularly at risk in the months from April to June, at the start of green crop mowing operations. Fawns are a prime example in the presence of noise or danger, their natural instinct is to keep low to the ground and find a place to hide. They are therefore easily overlooked during mowing, and can become caught up in the mower mechanism. This clearly calls for active protection measures not just for animal welfare reasons, but also to safeguard farm animals from the risk of the spread of botulism, and to avoid emotional stress for the mower operator in the event of an accident. What can we do about this? There is a wide range of commercially available wildlife protection systems, based on scaring off deer and other animals with acoustic alarms or visual stimuli, ideally the night before mowing begins. Appropriate mowing strategies can also be used to make it easier for the animals to escape, by mowing from the centre of the field outwards, for example. Excellent results have been achieved simply by walking through the field beforehand with the game tenant, but the time and expense involved can be prohibitive. All these methods work to some extent, but not for all wildlife species, or only from a particular age. A more efficient and reliable approach is needed. A CLAAS community initiative. In partnership with Isa Industrieelektronik GmbH, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the Technical University of Munich, CLAAS has developed some innovative and practical solutions for the more precise detection of wild animals particularly young deer in fields of crops. Infrared cameras are used to scan the terrain from the air, and reliably detect the presence of animals through their body heat, even when concealed in high grass. The system is particularly effective in the early morning hours or in the evening, when ambient temperatures are relatively low.
