More than 2.4 million fans from all over the world have attended the tournament games, held in March 2006, March 2009 and March The Dominican Republic team is the reigning World Baseball Classic Champions after going undefeated during its 2013 championship run. However, managers and players will be made available postgame. There is pregame media field access until batting practice has concluded. Following each game, the losing manager, winning manager and 2-4 players from the winning team will appear in the formal interview room. Additional players from each team will also be available in the informal media mixed zone, which will take place on-field in front of each teams dugouts.

MIAMI MARLINS HOST WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC FOR THIRD TIME: The Miami Marlins will play host to the WBC for the third consecutive tournament. In 2009 at Dolphin Stadium the Marlins hosted round two games, which saw both Venezuela and Team USA advance to the semi-finals in Los Angeles. In 2013 the Marlins again hosted round two games, this time at Marlins Park where Puerto Rico and eventual WBC champion Dominican Republic advanced to the semi-finals in San Francisco. 4 CANADA: Canada is 3-7 all-time in WBC play This is Canada s fourth appearance in the World Baseball Classic They also competed in the 2012 WBC Qualifier in Regensburg, Germany in which they went undefeated while qualifying for the 2013 WBC Canada is looking to advance beyond round one for the first time Canada won baseball gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, beating the USA 7-6 in extra innings. COLOMBIA: Colombia is making their first appearance at the World Baseball Classic They went 3-0 at the 2016 qualifier in Panama City, Panama to advance to the 2017 WBC Participated in the 2012 WBC qualifier going 1-2 also in Panama City Team Colombia won its first WBC game Saturday against Team Canada 4-1. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: The Dominican Republic is 16-4 all-time in WBC play The defending WBC champions went 8-0 in the 2013 Classic defeating Puerto Rico 3-0 in the championship game at AT&T Park in San Francisco Seattle s Robinson Cano was named tournament MVP batting.469 with 2 HR and 6 RBI over eight games...in 2006 the DR advanced to the semi-finals losing 3-1 to Cuba The 82 Dominican born players on MLB Opening Day rosters in 2016 were the most by any country. UNITED STATES: The United States is all-time in WBC play Team USA will try and advance to the final round for the first time since 2009 David Wright s walk-off base hit against Puerto Rico propelled the U.S. into the semis in Los Angeles where they were eliminated by eventual 2009 champ Japan, 9-4 In 2013 Team USA advanced to round two in Miami before being eliminated by back-to-back losses by tournament runner-up Puerto Rico and 2013 WBC champ Dominican Republic. Signed by the Brewers in 2005, Wily has made at least 20 starts for Milwaukee in each of his last four seasons. In 113 appearances and 112 starts in his five-year career, Peralta has posted a record and 4.18 ERA with 459 strikeouts over career innings pitched. Through his final 10 starts last season, the Samana, Dominican Republic native posted a 2.92 ERA. In 2014, the 27-year-old righty delivered the best season of his career, leading his club in wins (17), innings pitched (198.2), strikeouts (154) and quality starts (22). His 17 wins tied for fifth in the National League, and his 3.53 ERA was the lowest of his career. Right-handed pitcher Nabil Crismatt will take the ball for Team Colombia in its final game of Pool C play. A 22-year-old prospect for the New York Mets, Crismatt spent last season in the Minors across three levels, ultimately advancing to Double-A Binghamton. For the season, Nabil went 1-4 with a 2.47 ERA and 74 strikeouts to only seven walks. In his Minors career, the Mets farmhand has boasted a 16-8 record with 239 strikeouts, 50 walks and a 2.56 ERA.

6 Canada vs. USA Making his second start in this WBC, Ryan Dempster will start for Team Canada. Coming out of retirement to represent his native Canada in his first WBC, the 16-year Major League veteran tossed two innings and allowed four runs to the Dominican Republic on Thursday. Over his lengthy tenure with five different Major League clubs, the Sechelt, Canada product amassed 132 victories with a 4.35 ERA in career innings pitched. A two-time NL All-Star, Dempster recorded his best season in 2008 after collecting 17 wins and logging a career-best 2.96 ERA. With 187 strikeouts to just 76 walks, Ryan finished sixth in NL Cy Young voting. Starting for Team USA is Kansas City Royals starter Danny Duffy. Last season, the 28-year-old set career-highs in wins (12), starts (26), innings pitched (179.2) and strikeouts (188), while leading Royals starting pitchers in ERA (3.51). With a record of 12-3 (.800), Duffy matched Larry Gura (1978) for the best winning percentage in franchise history. His impressive strikeout mark set a Royals record for strikeouts by a left-handed hurler. In 2015, Danny was a member of the 2015 World Champion Royals, making three relief appearances in the Fall Classic. As a 24-year-old, Duffy, a native of Lompoc, California, made five starts in 2013 en route to a 2-0 record to go along with a miniscule 1.85 ERA. TIEBREAKER RULES: Three Teams Tied 2-1: If there are three teams 2-1, then the tiebreaker rules would be applied to rank the three, and the first-ranked team would advance. The second and third-ranked teams would play an additional game to determine who the second-place team is. The tiebreaker rules applied would be as follows: Step 1: The tied Teams shall be ranked in the standings for that Round according to fewest runs allowed divided by the number of innings (including partial innings) played in defense in the games in that Round between the Teams tied. Step 2: The tied Teams shall be ranked in the standings according to fewest earned runs allowed divided by the number of innings (including partial innings) played in defense in the games in that Round between the Teams tied. Step 3: The tied Teams shall be ranked in the standings according to highest batting average in games in that Round between the Teams tied. Step 4: Standings shall be determined by the drawing of lots, conducted by WBCI. Three Teams Tied 1-2: If there are three teams tied 1-2, then the tiebreaker rules would be applied to rank the three, and the first two ranked teams would play a tiebreaker game, the winner of which would advance. A pitcher must: Not pitch until a minimum of four days have passed since he last pitched, if he threw 50 or more pitches when he last pitched; Not pitch until a minimum of one day has passed since he last pitched, if he threw 30 or more pitches when he last pitched; Not pitch until a minimum of one day has passed since any second consecutive day on which the pitcher pitched; Throw no more than: o 65 pitches per game in the First Round of the Tournament; o 80 pitches per game in the Second Round of the Tournament; and o 95 pitches per game in the Championship Round of the Tournament Unless the pitcher needs more to complete a batter s plate appearance; and

7 Throw no more than: o 49 pitches per exhibition game for a Federation Team, or the maximum number of pitches that WBCI sets forth for such pitcher for such exhibition game, whichever is less, if the pitcher is under reserve to an MLB Club. WBCI may set forth such a maximum upon the written request of the pitcher s MLB Club. For the purposes of the pitcher use limitation rules, both semi-final games shall be deemed to have been played on the day of the latest semi-final game. EARLY TERMINATION RULE: The umpire-in-chief shall call a regulation game in the First and Second Rounds of the Tournament and award the victory to the Federation Team that is ahead whenever: Such Federation Team is ahead by 10 or more runs after any complete inning, beginning with the completion of the seventh inning; or Such Federation Team is ahead by 15 or more runs after any complete inning, beginning with the completion of the fifth inning. EXTRA INNINGS RULE: For any inning beginning with the 11th inning, the Federation Team at bat shall begin the inning with runners on first and second base. The batter who leads off an inning shall continue to be the batter who would lead off the inning in the absence of this extra-innings rule. The runner on first base shall be the player (or a substitute for such player) in the batting order immediately preceding the batter who leads off the inning. The runner on second base shall be the player (or a substitute for such player) in the batting order immediately preceding the runner on first base.
