However major barriers remain to bicycle and pedestrian access, particularly over the I-80 corridor. We are excited by the projects Emeryville is proposing to include in the current call for the county and regional transportation plans, in particular bicycle and pedestrian investments include: South Bayfront Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge over UPRR Ashby I-80 Interchange with Bike/Pedestrian Access over I-80 Bike/Pedestrian Plan Funding Gap Implementation These three projects will greatly increase bicycle and pedestrian access throughout Emeryville, connecting the City to bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements in Berkeley and Oakland, and to the Bay Trail. Emeryville is actively committed to implementing its award winning Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan with $54 million identified in dedicated funding, with just $4.86 M needed in additional funding to complete the plan s build-out Additionally, creating improved access for bicycles in Emeryville over the railway and freeway, will boost recreational use of the Bay Trail and the Bay Bridge Bike Ped Paths. These trails offer low cost healthy recreational activity for all Bay Area residents, and link the flatlands of the Northern Alameda County to regional park lands. We are delighted to see Measure BB and other regional, state and federal dollars used in Emeryville to invest in active transportation to enhance regional mobility. The City is proposing to include the following projects in the regional transportation plan: South Bayfront Bridge Powell Street Widening I-80 Powell St Bus Bays Ashby I-80 Interchange with Bike and Pedestrian Access over I-80 North Hollis Parking Pricing and Transportation Demand Management Program Quiet Zone Mitigations of Port of Oakland s Good Movement Bike Ped Plan Funding Gap Implementation 8 to Go Paratransit Shuttle Amtrak Platform Extension to Bus Bays Bus Shelters City Wide, including 40 th Transit Hub Emery-Go-Round (Free Citywide Shuttle) Operations With investment balanced among these projects, Emeryville will see increased overall development consistent with regional housing goals, modal shifts resulting in reduction in greenhouse gases consistent with state goals, and economic development consistent with federal priorities. I am pleased to see Measure BB and other regional, state and federal dollars used in Emeryville to redirect the transportation modal split to enhance regional mobility, local development and improved access to employment, recreation and housing. This application has my support as it will assist in implementing a regional transportation plan and create a more sustainable, healthy and transit oriented environment in my district.
