Points Points will be awarded on the basis of 60 points (in each category) for the winner down to 1 for sixtieth place in each event. The winners will be the riders with the highest aggregate total of points from up to four events. If more than one rider achieves the same number of points, then their 5th highest placing will be used to determine the winner. The Veteran categories are open to both Men and Women. Women Veterans will receive an additional 8 years on Target Time. The Veterans competitions will be run over the same distance as the Women s competition. The competition for Paracyclist s is based on a Factored Time system. In 2018 an Espoir is someone born after 31st December 1995 & before 1st January See Page 232 of the 2018 Handbook for the Competition Conditions.

3 Buxton Cycling Club Mountain Time Trial 2018 Promoted for and on behalf of Cycling Time Trials and under their regulations. General details When: Good Friday, 30th March 2018, First rider off at 11:01am Where: Longnor, J8/3: Men and Male Espoirs do 3 laps (33 miles); Women, Paracyclists, Juniors, and Veterans do 2 laps (22 miles) Headquarters Where: St Bartholomew's Primary School, Longnor, SK17 0NZ When: Open at 10:00am for registration Info: Printed copies of the start sheet will be available for collection, along with race numbers. There are toilet facilities and tea, coffee and snacks will be available. No competitor or spectator parking is available at the HQ. Organiser Who: Arne Beswick, 106 Church Rd, New Mills, SK22 4PF; ; buxtonmtt@hotmail.co.uk. On the day: Arne will be stationed at the HQ all day. Without all of these fantastic volunteers we would have no race Course General: J8/3: Men and Male Espoirs do 3 laps (33 miles), Women, Paracyclists, Juniors and Veterans do 2 laps (22 miles). Description: Start in Longnor by entrance to school; proceed on B5053 (towards Glutton), take left to turn at edge of Longnor before top of hill and proceed along unclassified road to the Travellers Rest Inn on A53. Turn left on to the A53 towards Leek and proceed to the Royal Cottage, turn sharp left towards Longnor. In Longnor turn left into Calder Green and left again onto Buxton Road to continue past the start (11 miles) and complete a further 1 or 2 laps. The finish on the second or third lap is just before the left turn onto Calder Green in Longnor. Map: A course map and profile can be found at Maps will be available on the day. 4 Prize Presentation If you can, please stay for the prize presentation, which takes place as soon after the finish as possible. Parking (important!) Part of the charm of this race is that it is nestled in the Peak District. However, with that comes the fact that Longnor is a rather small village that is not designed to cope with over 150 riders and assorted volunteers/marshals/spectators who make the race such a spectacle. So please can all competitors take note of the following information. There is NO competitor or spectator parking at the HQ. Please park in Longnor's central square and streets (if you are early enough!), taking care not to obstruct or inconvenience residents, and on the roads leaving Longnor towards Monyash and Wardlow. Specifically, please do not park on the course, including the stretch following the left turn after the finish. Please share cars if possible. We have received complaints concerning people associated with the event peering through windows of Longnor residents. Please could you respect local residents privacy. Finally, please do not warm up outside properties in Longnor village using static rollers or turbo trainers. There were a number of incidents in 2017 that nearly resulted in us losing this event and your assistance in respecting the privacy of Longnor residents is very much appreciated. There will be roving marshals to check on this and any competitor who contravenes the above requests will be liable to disqualification from the event. Regulations Riders must exercise caution at all junctions. Any competitor who crosses the white line when approaching or leaving a junction will be liable to disqualification from the event and may be reported to the District Committee for further disciplinary action. No "U" turns in the vicinity of the start and finish. Observers will be watching. Head up and observe local regulations at all times. Pace must not be given or received and the onus is on the caught riders to adhere to this rule. All riders must sign on when collecting their number. Riders must also sign when they return their number or they will be recorded as DNF. Warnings Please remember this is a mountain time trial, so bring some low gears, good tyres and brakes, and take care on the descents. Most riders should be OK with 39 x 23 bottom gear. Please avoid riders who are just setting off as you come through the start. Please avoid parking on the course, particularly on Carder Green. Do not congregate at the finish. Times will be available at the HQ.

Hotel Milano Helvetia, Italy The Buxton CC Mountain TT has also been sponsored for a third year by Hotel Milano Helvetia, Riccione in Italy ( one of the area's famous "Bike Hotels". The hotel is offering prizes of 2 five day stays at the hotel on their "Plus" package for cyclists, one for the winner of the Men's/Espoirs' event and one for the winner of the Women's event. During their stay, the package will give our winners bed, breakfast, evening meal and post-ride afternoon buffet along with the assistance of a guide to show them the best local routes (with the hotel's other guests of course). The prizes don't include air fares but many UK airports have budget routes to destinations in north eastern Italy which allow easy transfers to the hotel by bus, train or taxi. Bike hire is available at the hotel. The Hotel Milano Helvetia will, in addition, be offering a 10% reduction on the cost of their stay (excluding extras like bike hire and bar bills, of course) to ALL ENTRANTS to the event! Sett Valley Cycles Sett Valley Cycles is the Buxton CC club sponsor, supporting us in many ways in addition to their prizes for the Buxton Mountain TT. Sett Valley Cycles is a traditional bike shop with a professional workshop. It is situated in the heart of New Mills on the edge of the Peak District, one of the most spectacular areas in the country for both road and mountain biking.

As these are a separate category they can be awarded in conjunction with the above general prizes. The Athletes' Prizes are awarded to the fastest riders who complete the 2-lap and 3-lap events using "road race equipment" rather than "time trial equipment". This means that riders will use standard road bikes without aero extensions (including clip-ons) and will not wear time trial helmets. Disc wheels are not permitted but all others that could be used in a road race will be accepted. Eligibility will be assessed on the start line by the timekeeper whose decision will be final. 12 Notes to competitors Numbers: Championship Condition 2(j) Competitors must only use the numbers supplied by the event organiser. Body numbers should be fitted in accordance with Regulation 16. Arm numbers should be fitted to the upper arms facing forwards. This event is under 100km. Riders should not be preceded, accompanied, followed by or in anyway receive assistance from a motorised vehicle. Regulation 17: Signing-on Sheet and Signing-out Sheet (a) The competitors in all types of events must make themselves aware of any special safety instructions for the event and sign the official Signing-on Sheet when collecting their number. (b) In Type A events a competitor must return to the event HQ either during the event or within a reasonable time after the last rider has finished the event and must (i) return their race number(s) and (ii) sign the official Signing-out Sheet. A rider who fails to so sign the official signing-out sheet shall be recorded as DNF. N.B. Extenuating circumstances may be considered. IN THE INTERESTS OF YOUR OWN SAFETY, Cycling Time Trials and the event promoters strongly advise you to wear a HARD SHELL HELMET that meets an internationally accepted safety standard. In accordance with Regulation 15 ALL JUNIOR competitors must wear Protective Hard Shell Helmets. It is recommended that a working rear light, either flashing or constant, is fitted to the machine in a position visible to following road users and is active whilst the machine is in use. This event may be subject to a Doping Control As soon as you have finished you should return to the event HQ as it is your responsibility to check if you are required for Doping Control. Race numbers required for Doping Control will be displayed at the HQ adjacent to the result board. If your number is displayed you should report immediately to Doping Control which will be nearby. Remember, it is up to you to check and ensure that you comply. If required you must report to Doping Control after finishing without delay.
