11 Concluding remarks Like many other countries the history of road collisions in Ireland is immeasurable in terms of hurt and grief for those effected by serious and fatal collisions The quality and completeness of road collision data can always be improved but its important to acknowledge that Ireland has some of the best data available An effective program of countermeasures, weather engineering or enforcement focused, is likely to make itself redundant over time. Consequently deciding the most appropriate safety countermeasure to deploy will become more difficult as collisions become increasingly rare and random Despite the current economic climate we are unlikely to be collecting less information about our roads and the collisions that occur on them then we currently are. So its important that the next Road Safety Strategy support the analysis of these new data
