Unless otherwise stated all data relates to and Peterborough. 3 The three targets are: To reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) in collisions by at least 40% by To reduce the number of children killed or seriously injured in collisions by at least 40% by To reduce the number of cyclists and pedestrians killed or seriously injured in collisions by at least 40% by Key points There were 1968 reported injury collisions in and Peterborough in These resulted in 2634 casualties, a 3% decrease from 2014 and 35% less than the baseline. 352 people were killed or seriously injured on the roads of and Peterborough in This is a decrease of 11% compared to 2014 and a decrease of 33% compared to the baseline. There were 17 children killed or seriously injured on the roads of and Peterborough in The latest 3-year average is 11% less than the average and 47% less than the baseline. 108 cyclists and pedestrians were killed or seriously injured in and Peterborough in The latest 3-year average is 3% less than the average and 10% below the baseline. Based on Department for Transport figures, the value of preventing every road casualty that occurred in and Peterborough during 2015 is 164m. 10 Key themes for 2016 The key themes for the and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership are in place to guide the work of road safety professionals across the partnership area in meeting the Partnership s casualty reduction targets. The key themes are: Collisions involving young people (age 17-25) Collisions involving pedal cycles Collisions involving motorcycles Collisions on rural roads (including inappropriate speed) The key themes for 2016 will be targeted through partnership working, incorporating all organisations included in the CPRSP and supported by Police and Crime Commissioner s Casualty Reduction Support Fund. 10 CAMBRIDGESHIRE AND PETERBOROUGH ROAD SAFETY PARTNERSHIP 3941 CCC_Road Safety HBook.indd 10 19/08/ :59

11 Definitions Collision: Involves personal injury occurring on the public highway (including footways) in which at least one road vehicle or a vehicle in collision with a pedestrian is involved and which becomes known to the police within 30 days of its occurrence. One collision may give rise to several casualties. Casualty: A person killed or injured in a collision. Casualties are sub-divided into killed, seriously injured and slightly injured. Killed: Human casualties who sustained injuries which caused death less than 30 days after the collision. Confirmed suicides are excluded. KSI: Killed or seriously injured. Serious injury: An injury for which a person is detained in hospital as an in-patient, or any of the following injuries whether or not they are detained in hospital: fractures, concussion, internal injuries, crushings, burns (excluding friction burns), severe cuts, severe general shock requiring medical treatment and injuries causing death 30 or more days after the collision. Slight injury: An injury of a minor character such as a sprain (including neck whiplash injury), bruise or cut which are not judged to be severe, or slight shock requiring roadside attention. This definition includes injuries not requiring medical treatment. Vehicles involved in collisions: Vehicles whose drivers or passengers are injured, which hit and injure a pedestrian or another vehicle whose driver or passengers are injured, or which contributes to the collision. Vehicles which collide, after the initial collision which caused injury, are not included unless they aggravate the degree of injury or lead to further casualties.
