1 25th Anniversary Historic New Bern Ride SHIFTING GEARS feel the BERN this SEPTEMBER 7 & 8, 2013 the 25th anniversary of As we celebrate Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride, we celebrate all the wonderful, loyal, devoted cyclists who have been along for the ride since day one. One of our Silver Spokes cyclists in particular has gone above and beyond throughout the past 25 years and has brought a contagious smile to this event. Sharon Roggenbuck is not your average Bike MS participant and fundraiser. In fact, there s not much that this woman can t do! As an avid cyclist, Zumba instructor, ballroom dancer, participant in over 160 triathlons, the oldest Raleigh Ironman triathlete, Ride Marshal, top fundraiser and dear friend to the National MS Society, Sharon is truly one of a kind. It was a friend of Sharon s who invited her to ride in the very first Bike MS (formally known as the MS 150) back in Not knowing much about multiple sclerosis or Bike MS, Sharon took on the challenge of riding 75 miles and raising $150. With over $128,000 raised for Bike MS since starting back in 1989, we asked Sharon about the secret to her fundraising success. I mainly write letters to friends and family. I also ask people I do business with; doctors, hairdresser, vet, therapist, dentist etc. I ve had many of the same supporters for years. When asked about her experience with Bike MS, Sharon says, I have met so many people with MS through the years and I am inspired by them, especially the ones who are riding or volunteering. It didn t take long for me to become committed to this cause. It is Sharon s dedication, love for cycling, kind heart, and determination to create a world free of MS that makes her a true inspiration to us all. We look forward to having everyone join Sharon and the MS Society in New Bern on September 7th and 8th for the 25th anniversary celebration ride. We ll see you soon! inside: prizes: 2 &3 schedule of events: 6 & 7 teams: 4 & 5 weekend details: 8 & 9 things to do in new bern: 10 & 11
