2 Victorian Sea Kayak Club Blue Water Paddle Festival & AGM Barwon Heads Friday 10th - Sunday 12th Nov 2017 Fantastic fun for all - many paddles offered in and around the beautiful Barwon Heads and Queenscliff environs for all abilities. Not to be missed family excursion to the Maritime Museum at Queenscliff, exploring the history of kayaking in our area. Beach walks and rock pools, cafes and more, all to be explored. Great guest speakers: Beau Miles and Geoff Murray are bound to knock your socks off. Many stories and images to please the senses. Details on their talks are below in the Program section. 3 How to register for the Paddle Fest: Bookings for the 2017 AGM weekend will be available from the 6th October and must be made using the Club s Trybooking service. The booking URL is: Please note to get the early bird price you must book via Trybooking before 24th October. Cabins: The cabin option can only accommodate 3 persons (or 4 if a bed is shared), Cabins must be booked for the weekend (no single night bookings) and will be available on a first come first served basis. Member/Commercial prices: Early bird price Normal price 1 person $420 $435 2 persons $485 $515 3 persons $550 $595 4 persons $615 $675 Camp sites: A campsite can have a maximum of 2 persons. Attendees that do not book a campsite with another nominated person or book one for their exclusive use will be allocated to a site with someone else this is to reduce your attendance costs. Single day bookings: Saturday or Sunday only bookings are available for camping or off-site attendance only. For a Friday night booking there are no meals included. For a Saturday night booking, the two catered meals Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch are included. For cabins there is no single day booking available. 3

This can be done at the same time as booking your attendance/accommodation, or can be done separately. So if for example a cabin or campsite is booked, only the names of attendees are required. Attendees can then go in to Trybooking separately and book their events (prior to 5th November). Events are free other than the CPR course and the Maritime Museum Tour. The cost for CPR is a maximum of $50 per person and if we book more than 12 this cost will reduce. The museum is $8 per person. CPR for Grade 3, trip leaders and instructors will be reimbursed. 4

5 How to register for the Paddle Fest: Booking Instructions: 1. All bookings must be made on Trybooking from 6th October. The URL is: 2. As with last year there is an early bird discount of $15 per person this is for bookings made prior to October 24th. This allows us to better plan and gives timely details to suppliers, such as for our catering needs. 3. There is no ability to book on the AGM weekend or after 5th November. Please do not rock up on the weekend and expect to be able to attend, as we will not have any facility to take bookings or rearrange catering. 4. All bookings must be made using our Trybooking service. Note that credit card payment details with Trybooking are made directly to the ANZ bank, using full bank securities and encryption. Trybooking and VSKC have no access to your credit card information. 5. Infants do not count towards the number of people on a site (or cabin). 6. There are limits to the number of attendees for some events and for accommodation, so please book early to make sure that you get what you want. 7. When you book you will need to select the accommodation type that you want and when you get to the cart, select buy more tickets and you will be taken back to the AGM menu and you can book events or other accommodation options. 8. If you require vegan meals to be supplied please book this when you book your events this is the first option in the event list. There is no charge for this option, but we need to know before the 24th October, so the caterer can make the appropriate food available. 9. You can pay your 2018 Membership at the same time. To do so you can select Find Other Events when you are in your cart and you will be taken to a menu where you can select that option, which will be added to your cart. To participate in the AGM you will need to be financial member for Registration: When you arrive at the campground, go to the office and you will be given the details of your accommodation and the access keys/codes and information. Registration for the VSKC AGM itself is handled separately by us, and can be done before or after you have registered with the campground for your accommodation. 5

Rob s website robmercer@balancedboater.com Friday: Forward Stroke with a Twist Mk2 9:30am-12:30pm - An updated version of our previously popular forward stroke session. $35 per person (special AGM price for VSKC members) Max 10 participants. Rescues and Towing Strategies 1:30pm-4:30pm - A three hour session allowing participants to experiment with different approaches to rescues in time critical scenarios. Dress for immersion. Max number 12 participants. Suitable for paddlers of all skill and experience levels. $35 per person (special AGM price for VSKC members) 10th November (Tides:) H 4.59am L10.51am 5 pm - 7 pm Sign In: Everyone will sign in at the Barwon Heads Football club rooms inside the Barwon Heads Caravan Park, including those staying in cabins. Your registration will have already been completed on line. There will be VSKC site hosts in High Vis vests to help orient you to the camping ground. Arrangements for those arriving for preregistration paddle and training sessions will be provided. Mick MacRobb PHOTO COMPETITION In addition to our traditional photo competition categories of, Action, Humour, Flora and Fauna and Seascape. We are introducing the inaugural Mick MacRobb Photo Competition. The Mick MacRobb prize will be awarded to the photographer who enters the best overall picture of the year. This spans across all our categories. We encourage all members to participate in this event. Photos are to be printed no larger than 8 x 10. Maximum 1 photo per category per person. More details to follow on competition rules and who to give photos to on the day. SEA KAYAK SHORT FILM FESTIVAL Share a kayaking story or Adventure through the media of film. This is an opportunity to present a short 3min clip of your latest kayaking adventure. Video must be saved on a USB and presented to the registration table when signing in for the weekend. 7 The Program 7:30pm: President s Welcome followed by Guest Speaker - Beau Miles: Beau Miles provides an entertaining reflection on his kayaking escapades and adventures. Beau is a polished and experienced solo sea kayaker with several major expeditions to his credit, including sections of Africa and Bass Strait. He has also undertaken many outdoor adventures. He is a very experienced videographer. Beau is currently undertaking research into the meaning we experience from adventure and will reflect on this work and its relevance to kayaking in his presentation. This is an aspect of our great sport that warrants closer attention as we all seek to enhance our lived experience of the pursuits we love. Unlimited participants ON-WATER TRAINING Introduction to Surf, grade 1+ Terry Barry For those interested in learning to enter and exit through surf. Max 12 participants. Tidal Stream Awareness Point Lonsdale, grade 2 John Evertze Learn to enter and exit through strong tidal flow, in a very dynamic piece of water at Point Lonsdale. You will need to drive to this location, so allow minutes travel time LUNCH (BYO) Sat. Afternoon Choose a workshop presentation when you do your online booking, if you are not on the longer morning paddle. He has completed many major sea kayak expeditions, notably into arctic and antarctic regions. He has paddled with some of the world s leading paddlers and his presentation will be a feast of photography and stories from paddling amongst ice, a dream that many kayakers yearn to fulfill. 9:00 Auction - Buy Swap or Sell 9

Unlimited participants. Blue Water Paddle 12-15kms grade 1+ Tina Rowley A classic blue water paddle of 12-15km with swell and possibly wind. Direction and location will be decided on the day to allow for the conditions. Max 12 participants ON-WATER TRAINING Surf Play, grade 1+ Steve Collins or Terry Barry For those interested in learning to enter and exit through surf. Max 12 participants. Rolling Workshop, grade 0 Peter Costello and Andrew Campbell Begin to learn to roll, or improve your roll on the Barwon River with the team that have been running the pool rolling nights throughout the year. Max 12 participants BBQ LUNCH (CATERED) 1:00pm PRESENTATIONS Presentations and Final thank-yous 2.30 TRAINING CPR Refresher Course National First Aid grade 0 An opportunity to participate in a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation refresher course. (HLTAID001) $50pp. Maximum 22 participants. Please pay in advance in Trybooking. 2hr practical course plus short online questionnaire (to be completed prior to the day) CPR certification is required to maintain Grade 3 Currency. Note, the Club will reimburse Grade 3 participants the full cost of this event after completion of the course. CLEAN UP AND DEPART - Pitch in and support the committee 10

11 The Program...more Weekend Highlights Buy Swap or Sell - Bring along all your unwanted but quality paddle related gems (reserved and unreserved items) to auction. A chance to clear out the shed for new gear. Bound to be a bargain or two to be had! For those who would like to do so, proceeds from their auction items could even be donated to the VSKC! You can auction anything from a kayak to a fork! Please clearly identify the owner of each item and see Richard Rawling or Terry Barry prior to Saturday night dinner to include your items. Photo and video competition: entry rules and details to be provided in the October news. Security: Valuables, kayaks and kayak gear should not be left in public places unattended. Amenities: Tea and coffee will be available in the football hall throughout the day. Note: the Football hall kitchen will not be available for cooking or preparing meals as this space will need to be kept clear and clean for caterers on both days. 11
