3 Introduction The purpose of this report is: To review current practices from both coach and athlete perspective To identify and outline specific areas of strength and/or areas to improve for each paddling program To assess our current status in relation to our direction, and To capture the big picture of our club within the sport of canoeing and kayaking

12 Regatta Ready Continued Strengths of the program Very successful recruitment stream (pathway leads into competitive full summer) Provides low commitment option for new members Provides flexibility for families looking to book a limited number of weeks Areas to improve: Regatta participation Track numbers and see increase in regatta attendance Equipment can be a limiting factor for this program Participants are absorbed by Competitive Youth Racing program

14 Competitive Youth Racing Continued Strengths of the program: Very appropriate level of programming - building for long-term athlete success Knowledgeable staff leading the way Equipment situation is significantly improving Practice precedes performance Regatta burgees for banner year Areas to improve: Equipment management and availability still needs to improve (on-going) Regatta communications to improve as a sport and a division Coach fatigue needs to be addressed provide opportunities for recovery

15 U15 Junior High Performance New Program in 2016 What went well? 14 participants Increase in numbers from 2015 U15 Competitive (up from 7) Athletes responded well to HP format Results were outstanding (5 at NTLs) Assistant Head Coach provided routine and structure progressing through pathway (prepared them for success in HP environment) Areas to improve: Equipment This group is going to see increasing participation moving forward and equipment will be needed to support and facilitate growth and quality Year-round training opportunities a growth in resources will be required for future success

16 U17 and Senior High Performance 21 High Performance athletes in 2016 Strengths of this program: Performance (NTTs, OTTs, Olympic Hopes, Canada Cup Tour, National and Provincial Teams) Foundation for long-term success in producing well built young athletes Doing it right Areas to improve: Resources Equipment and space Increased training opportunities (Florida, camps, travel, etc.) Better coach: athlete ratio (more coach time)

17 Adult Canoe Kayak Strengths of this program: Knowledgeable and experienced staff Bounce back year in numbers and quality Feedback was positive Increase to 20 participants in 2016 (15 in 2015) Winter program is expanding Areas to improve: Lack of beginner appropriate equipment is very limiting and creates logistical challenge Need to better promote active for life stage of athlete pathway

18 Adult Dragon Boat Strengths of this program: Friendly and social atmosphere Great coaching Areas to improve/recommendations: Improve recruitment strategy Begin dragon boat replacement plan boat is in bad shape Seek out commercial team rentals (new boat needed)

19 Paddle ALL Strengths of this program: Great community involvement program Amazing staff and volunteers Sarah Murphy-Burke was exceptional Provides competitive and recreational opportunities Areas to improve/recommendations: Expand into para canoe Seek out grants for specific equipment Improve staff/volunteer recruitment streams to improve ratio
