Hi All So it has finally arrived! Our little Eurofox is here and is working hard for us already for those who haven t seen her yet come down to the club. All those who have already came down know that she has an amazing climb rate (1400fpm average) and gets off before the seal if you line it up at the very start of the runway (Close to the fence). She is powered by a Rotax 912 producing 5500rpm. Also has a Dynon EFIS (Electronic Flight Information System) As opposed to the old steam driven instruments. She is also registered as an LSA (Light Sports Aircraft) which is essentially the middle man between GA Aircraft (Like your Cessnas/Pipers) and Microlights. This mean that we have an aircraft which has the ability to train both microlight and general aviation pilots (PPL/CPLs). Meaning we can cater for everyone! For those who are interested we have a speed sheet and checklist which is able if you want some nighttime reading. Happy TUGers! Amber Hamilton and Stu Burrows Also earlier this month we had our club AGM which had a good turnout. In summary we have had a brilliant year last year and continue to grow. The main topic at the AGM was the acquisition of TUG. For those who didn t attend here s a summary of you aero club committee for the 2016/2017 season. President: Barbara Woods Vice President: Stu Burrows Secretary: Nil To be appointed CEO: Ernie Graham Committee: John Snushall Rob Overly Nigel Finely George Murray In other news Last week the aero club was shut for the day so the staff and some of the students could take up skiing for the day. With the exception of Matt who insisted on snowboard which, shall we say had mixed results (His bum was more in use than the board). The team looking a little shattered after a good day out! However was an awesome day out for all with the two novices (Both Pete and myself have never skied before) become quite the professionals in the end. Along with Murray and Ben towards the end of the day we were all tearing down the slopes apart from Matt who was still giving his bum a work out. (Sorry Matt ;) )

Peter Mooney 1 st Solo 30/07/16 Rob Overly 1 st Solo 23/08/16 Big congratulations to our own Rob Overly and Peter Mooney for completing their first solos last week and last month! Robs has been working hard since moving over from the US with his wife. Whereas Pete has come over to NZ on a working holiday while studying for the PPL then CPL. Good to see that effort Paying off! Any day now we are expecting to get DOP back. The engine is now back in her and she should be back with us this Friday! This is a zero timed engine so shall leap into the air better than ever before. Along with Rochelle our newest staff member who is arriving this Sunday & Matt returning from holiday end of next week. All is looking up with a full complement of staff and aircraft. Happy Flighting Shannon YOUNG EAGLES Young Eagles our next meeting is on the 10 th of September and is a local one down at the club. It will be held at 9am if you could /ring the club to confirm your spot ASAP. Or text Shannon Also for those young eagles who are interested RNZAC has put a scholarship out to young eagles for $3000 worth of free flying! For those who are interested you have a write essay on why you deserve the scholarship in no more than 500 words. It is well worth applying for but the closing date is coming up soon (1 st of October) so those who are interested could please contact Shannon ASAP.

SENIOR PILOT REPORT Well it has been an exciting time for our club over the last month. After a lot of time and effort as above ZK-TUG has arrived. This is great asset for our club with it being the first of type to be put on Light Sports Aircraft in New Zealand. TUG gives us the ability to train people with their PPL/CPL or if desired to complete a micro light license. Please come down for a look if you have not already. We have had both Rob and Pete go solo this month so a big congratulations to them. Pete is going on to complete his CPL with us over the next six months. The other good news for us is that ZK-DOP will be back in action next Friday with a brand new motor. This will again help us with the bigger groups. See you soon Murray. CHIEF PILOT REPORT The club continues to do well and with Spring now upon us we will start to get busier I am sure. I was down for a couple of days during the month to support Shannon and do some Terrain Awareness flying with Ben. The first day was a washout but the next was perfect and we were able to get out into the hills (mountains). I will be down next month to do the same with Pete and then these 2 gentlemen will sit their PPL flight test. I had a trip to Tonga for a few days to do some flight checks in Real Tonga Airlines Jetstream 32 so that was a change of scene. As I was staying out at the airport there was no time to sight see but I had been there before, 23 years ago! A couple of wet days then ok. I managed a quick trip to the V'vau group and also Hapai. Both are north of the main island but it was just a short stop at the airport each time. Not quite the same but I also spent 3 days in Wellington at Flight Examiner Seminars, both ASL or ASPEQ as it is now branded, and the CAA. Both were well attended and it is the opportunity to discuss changes and ensure we are all on the same wave length. All the other days were filled up with the usual variety of work but I will be away on holiday for a couple of weeks from Monday, cycling down the Roxborough Gorge and spending time in Queenstown just for a change of scene. Enjoy the new Euro Fox, I have looked at it but not yet flown. Shannon will have to give me a type rating. Talking of which Shannon will be the go to man for the Fox and will be keeping an eye on the whole operation for us so any questions or thoughts then approach him. But of course any staff member will be able to help. Remember it is a light aircraft so treat it gently! Cheers for now, Alistair

CLUB CAPTAIN REPORT Hi Everyone Have you been down to view the clubhouse refurbishment yet? still some work to be done, i.e. new carpet, furniture & a little bit of painting. However what s been done so far is amazing, what a difference! so watch this space! The new LSA Aero fox ZK TUG has arrived & since being on line has been flat out with trial flights, pilot a plane & ratings. We will be looking for those out back strips around Kaikoura to hone up our strip flying experience with landings & take offs etc. If you have not had a fly of her yet, call in try her out & put a smile on your face. Flying New Zealand (RNZAC) competitions will be held around New Zealand from October on, so if you wish to represent the Kaikoura Aero Club let our instructors know & you can enrol in the competition that you wish to participate in via their website. Also you can fly the Aero Fox in the competitions & a special flying rate could be negotiated. The Marlborough Aero Club will be hosting the Alpine Region commencing 12th November so not far to fly to & if you are not competing let s get a couple of plane loads & go up to watch & a short drive for those who wish to drive. Entries close 29th October. So come on members let s put a team together there are many events to choose from & if you win your event you represent us at the Nationals at Taumarunui 13-19th February Expect to see DOP back on site in a couple of weeks, her new engine has arrived into Auckland & will be on it s way down to Omaka as I m writing this, to be fitted, tested & we can t wait to get her back into the air to take up the increasing number of punters that continue to come to see the whales. Poor old DUQ has been very busy trying to keep up with the extra work without DOP as I mentioned in the previous newsletter DUQ will have some refurbishment to it s upholstery & a bit of corrosion removed when DOP is back, she will be looking like a new pin when it s back. Has anyone yet decided to obtain an RPL (Recreational Pilots Licence) many PPL S / CPL S are taking it up as a back up whilst they still have their class 1 / 2 medicals for that just in case scenario & also importantly if you wish to learn to fly & don t want to spend the $$$ associated with obtaining a PPL it s the way to go. An RPL is now approved for helicopters, a number of other changes have been made including the ability to perform glider tow operations, in the USA presently FAA are looking at allowing small Twins & single engine A/C up to 7 pax to be included in a RPL. The outcome of this is being closely watched here by AOPA & CAA. The buzz word around NZ at the moment is SMS (Safety Management Systems) & every NZ company, organisations, clubs etc. big & small will need to have a SMS tailored specifically for their operation. Aviation is no exception in fact we have our bible which is our Operation Manual which incorporates how we operate & our risk management, however I ask members while on site I ask you to be aware of your surroundings, particularly around aircraft & entrance to the apron, report any or pending hazard or incident, keep a keen eye on visitors do not let them wander

around on their own as they could walk out through the gate & damage a plane, property or worse walk into a revolving prop. We will be introducing & applying extra safety policies over time to bring us to compliance of what is expected. I say again if you haven t been to the club house for awhile, call in have a tea or coffee & have a chat to the team, they would enjoy seeing you. Blue Skies Paul Faulkner Club Captain EVENTS FLYING NZ REGIONALS To be held at Omaka on the 12 th of November. However registrations close on the 29 th of October. Would be awesome for us to show off our newest addition ZK-TUG.
