2 July Meeting Minutes 07/11/2013,, 7:30 PM Field Report : The field is looking good with the exception of the goose droppings and some grass growing in the cracks on the runway. Old Business : New fence has been installed to define the helicopter area, another 40 feet to be added and it will be complete. New Business : Looking into getting permission into being able to float fly off of the lake. Hobbies for Hospice, Great Planes will be sending items to be raffled off. Horizon Hobby will not donate anything because this is not a AMA sanctioned event. Many different media types have been contacted. Culligan donating Reverse Osmosis system. 123RC-City will be donating about $ worth of stuff.. Paul is working on getting RC trucks to come to the event and Jerry is working on getting the Cincinnati Live Steamers to attend. Mark Camden said that the Power Boat guys are going to put it on their calendar. Romey put out a call for 30 gallon size plastic barrels to be used for trash cans at the field. Donnie mentioned that they are working on possibly having a Fun Fly at the Base on Labor Day since the D.O.G.S. 3 From the President s Hanger This month I would like to revisit the topic of safety. With the installation of the new Helicopter are fencing. I would like to point out a few rules we should all live by to be sure that we all have a safe flying experience. 1. All flying is in the fenced area and never in the spectator areas. 2. Airplane flying area should be from the runway out. Landing in the grassy area for a hand launched model is ok, but be respectful of whoever is at a flight stand and land well out of their area and out of their line of sight. 3. Use the flight stations! They are there for a reason. I have seen them block out of control models many times! 4. Heli area flying. Keep all flying from the mud volleyball area outward. Except, naturally for taking off and landing. Make good choices and we all will be ok. 5. It s everyone s responsibility to supervise these safety guidelines to make everyone s flying experience a positive one. I would also like to point out one thing that I have observed during Trainer night. Trainer night is just that for trainees. It s a good time for everyone to get together for a mid-week escape and go flying, but also be respectful about why the new Trainees are there. They should get first dibs on the air. I know when I was learning to fly I was a nervous wreck just trying to fly with a trainer on the cord, much less having many other planes in the air zipping around. Just be respectful of the students is all I am saying here. If no one is in the air have at it fly but if you see some trainees flying give them 5 minutes, talk to a buddy for a few and then go on up once they are down or look comfortable. Just an observation, and a way to show respect to the prospective new people in the club. Let s not forget the upcoming events this month. The Swap n Fly and Hobbies for Hospice!! Have a great month and see you at the field! Joe On another note: We all know that there is a fixed wing area and a helicopter area but that does not mean we cant all get along and use the same area. Obviously the large planes will need to use the runway for take off and landings but that don t mean we can not share the space with the helicopter people. During times that there may only be a few people at the field and a helicopter is hovering or doing 3D maneuvers in front of or over the runway please give them just a few minutes and they will be done with their flight. Just because it s the fixed wing flight area that does not give you the right to just run your plane out there and zoom down the runway. I think that as long as we respect each other and communicate our intentions (like taking off and landing) as long as a helicopter person lets people know they are going to be in the air for a few no one minds giving up the space for a few minutes. So lets all be courteous and respect each other and it will make for a much better time at the field. Jerry TAILSPINS Page 3

4 Hobbies for Hospice Hobbies for Hospice will be here in just a few short weeks and we still need help in getting the word out to the general public. So please let your friends, family, neighbors and people you work with know of the upcoming date. Remember this is not about you or me it s all about giving something back, we are all fortunate enough to not only be able to afford to participate in these wonderful hobbies but we are all still healthy enough to enjoy them also. This year we are going to try something just a little different and have a little more organized start to the event. Even though last year was a success many of us on the committee felt it just kind of stated as soon as the gates opened. This year we are going to keep the flight line closed until after the introductions and the singing of the National Anthem that will all start at 11:00 AM. After that we are going to have around an hour of special flights with fixed wing and helicopters exhibition flying so if you are interested in flying during this time please let me know. Food should be ready by around 10:00 AM and the MVGRS ladies will start selling raffle tickets around 9:00 AM. I must say we have already received some very nice prizes for the raffle. We can still use more prizes so if you or you know of anyone who might like to donate something please let Joe Saylor, Paul Stimmel or I know. Jerry TAILSPINS Page 4

5 More from Zane So for toys I've got Noah and I a 55" cracker box boat waiting on a modified 31cc ryobi gas conversion. A 600 Trex clone, also got a.60 size cub that's going on floats. A Traxxas s-maxx and finally a small park flyer I hoped up and added ailerons. The two full size planes are good friends of which I maintenance. The red and white is a 1978 Citabria with new upgraded aluminum wings and a fresh covering job. The polished plane is a 1975 Cessna 185 with a new 3 bladed prop and fresh overhaul. The RV is an Argosy that I helped restore, its a 1976 model. I'm looking into starting my own business, and getting my IA through the FAA. If I can perform all aspects of the aviation maintenance needs under one means, I'm hoping to work for myself and enjoy life a little more with the family. On another note my wife Ashley was involved in an auto accident and has two herniated discs in her lower back. She is not able to do much right now and physical therapy is making things worse and doctors are looking into injections and then surgery. We hope to never have to go into surgery, so times are a little ruff right now but we will pull through. I hope all is well with you and your family. Tell Lisa I said hello and your wife too. Thank you Dave for all you did for me and the great lessons learned. I talk about you a lot when people ask how I got into Aviation. My mother asks about you and other members of the Wingmaster's, tell the guys that remember me. I'm doing what I always wanted to do and thank you.
