CYE pageants are natural pageants, dedicated to giving young women the opportunity to grow through public speaking and working alongside community leaders. Serving as ambassadors and role models young women grow in self confidence, they are offered the opportunity to earn the Presidents Volunteer Service Award, make new friends make a difference in their communities. CYE s Miss California Scholarship Pageant will be held in beautiful, San Diego, California, at the 650 seat, Performing Arts Theater, located on the campus of Lincoln High School, near Petco Park, SeaPort Village and the San Diego Harbor. Rehearsals - Schedule distributed October 21, 2018 Saturday, November 17, 2018 Interviews A.M. at Host Hotel Saturday, November 17, Pageant Venue, Lincoln Performing Arts Theater, 4777 Imperial Ave., San Diego, per schedule distributed 10/21/2018. Miss California Pageant Areas of Competition: Introduction Speech (10%) Each contestant will give a 1 minute (max time, no minimum time) personal introduction speech presentation, before her interview. (Contestant walks into the Interview room, takes her position delivers her speech - her Interview will start immediately following her speech!) Spokes person quality for the organization, speech delivery pace. Was the speaker s voice pleasant and friendly? Her use of gestures, and her personality projection will all be considered. Personal Interview (40%) Each contestant participates in an individual press conference-style interview with our panel of judges. Jr. Miss and Pre-Teen interviews 3:00 minutes, Jr. Teen, Teen and Miss interviews 4:00 minutes. Scoring is based on overall first impression, validated opinions, responses, poise, personal appearance, attractiveness, personality, intelligence, speech, vocabulary, grammar, ability to have a confident and commanding presence, and ability to fulfill the spokes person responsibilities of Miss California. Evening Wear Presentation (30%) Each contestant appears on stage in a gown of her own choosing. Scoring is based on overall first impression, sense of confidence, personality and stage presence, walk and posture, carriage and grace, appropriateness of attire, sense of style, beauty and charm. CYE pageants are all natural, no big hair or adult stage make-up on little ones, no side stepping walks, all contestants follow the designated walking pattern. Poise and Personality (10%) All contestants in an age division will return to the stage, in a group, for the judges final review. Scoring is based on contestants overall performance during the Interview, speech, and evening wear presentations, her stage presence and her poise and personality projection. Top 5 - (10%) From the above scores, the Top 5 Finalists will be named. Each Top 5 Finalist answers an impromptu question, this score is added to her previous scores...the contestant with the highest total score wins the title!

3 Optional Miss California Scholarship Events: Miss California Talent Competition Talent performance time limit two (2) minutes (sorry we do not have access to a piano) All music must be on a CD. Your music should be the only trac on the CD. No back-up vocals for singers. 5 points penalty if over 2 minutes. 1st place $100 Scholarships, 2nd and 3rd place trophy in each age division. Talent awards presented Saturday, following Talent Competition. Please turn-in CD s Friday during check-in. Thank you. Miss California Essay Competition (Miss and Teen contestants) Essay prompt and form will be shared once your application is received and processed! Essays due November 5, Free to enter! $50 Scholarship Miss and Teen Division. Miss California People s Choice Voting (Previous winner (2017), received over $1, Cash) You, family and friends, make the decision!!! 50%/50% Winner shares the amount collected! Start collecting votes NOW! Please, invite family and friends to vote People s Choice Voting will take place Friday afternoon and Saturday until the end of Intermission!. Watch for the People s Choice voting table! $1.00 donation each vote. Donate $1, $5 as many votes as they wish, all votes/donations are tax deductible, CYE s EIN #: ! The contestant with the most votes will receive a Miss California Tiara, a Miss California People s Choice Princess satin sash and 50% of the funds collected, on-stage during the Miss California Finale, November 17, % of donations go towards CYE s Miss California Scholarship Fund. Miss California Optional Events: Miss Congeniality Fitness in Swimsuit (Miss Southern California Title) Miss Southern California Swimwear preliminary competition will be held Saturday afternoon. The Top 5 Contestants from each age division will be announced Saturday, following the Miss California Talent Competition. Top 5 contestants from each age division will compete during the Miss California Finals. Each contestant briefly appears on stage in a one-or two-piece swimsuit and footwear, ages 5-14 must wear sandals, no flip flops, or heels. Teen and Miss contestant may wear footwear of her own choosing, if you choose to wear a sarong you can not remove the sarong on stage, contestant must wear the same suit she wore for Preliminary Competition. Scoring is based on overall first impression, statement of strong physical fitness and health, sense of attractiveness and presence; display of energy, charisma, sense of confidence and composure. Finals Swimwear competition will be held after the Miss California Pageant judging is completed and all Miss California scoring has been submitted to the auditors. Swimwear competition is a separate competition; pageant scores are not included in the judging. (CYE reserves the right to disqualify contestants whose swimwear is deemed inappropriate.) Contestants in each age division will select a Miss Congeniality representative! Miss Congeniality = the most friendly, most helpful, the girl with the biggest smile each day and the most engaging! Each contestant is asked to bring a gift for the Miss Congeniality basket! Gifts should not exceed $10 in value. Gifts should be given to staff during check-in on Friday! Miss Spirit of California Awards (Good Luck Pages) Each contestant that submits (1) Good Luck ad page for the Miss California Magazine will be presented with a beautiful Miss Spirit of California Trophy, on stage during the Miss California Awards Ceremony! All Good Luck pages are tax deductible, CYE is a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization. All pages submitted must cover a full page, 8 x 10.5, in pdf or jpg formats only the Miss California Magazine is a keepsake for all contestants. The book is printed in full stunning color. 5 AGREEMENT between MISS CALIFORNIA CONTESTANT and the Council for Youth Empowerment (CYE). I, born on hereby accept the following enumerated conditions to participate in CYE s Miss California State Finals Scholarship Pageant November 16 & 17, I agree that I am qualified for this Pageant based on the following rules. Failure to comply will result in the forfeiture of the title, crown and cash scholarships. 1. I am between the ages of 5 and have not reached my 23 rd birthday, by 01/01/2018. I am female, single, never have been married, never have given birth to a child or have been a mother, and am of good moral character. 2. I have been a resident of the State of California at least four (4) months prior to the state pageant. If chosen Miss/Teen/Jr. Teen/Pre- Teen Miss California 2019, I will remain a resident of California throughout my reign. Should I, permanently move out of the State I will give up the title and any Scholarship amounts unpaid, the title and remaining scholarships will be forfeited. 3. I understand that I am accepting the responsibility for representing the State of California, CYE and my pageant sisters and that my public and personal conduct will be of the utmost concern during my reign. If my moral or personal conduct should for any reason become embarrassing to the Council for Youth Empowerment organization I will willingly give up my title. This would include but is not limited to the suspension from school, posting inappropriate pictures on social media sites, the use of profanity in public and inappropriate at events or community service venues. CYE reserves the right to disqualify any delegate at any time before and after the pageant date for any infraction of this agreement. Unacceptable behavior including, but not limited to, the use of drugs, alcohol or profanity will not be tolerated. 4. I understand that one of the areas of judging will be based on my personal appearance. I agree not to alter my personal appearance should I become CYE s Miss/Teen Miss California until I crown my successor the following year including changing my hair color, or with tattoos or piercings that were NOT present when I won the title, without written authorization from CYE s Executive Director, Ms Billie Sangster. 5. I have not been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude. I have not appeared nude or semi-nude in any photo, movie, video, publication or event and will not appear in such during competition and during the year of reigning. 6. I will dress in an appropriate manner to all outings and events. This means no see through, low cut, or tummy tops. Short Mini Skirts and ultra low rise pants are also not permitted. No Bare Midriffs. No tight fitting dress/shirts/pants or skirts. 7. Falsification of any fact on the entry form or my failure to comply with the Agreement will disqualify me from this and further participation in CYE pageants and result in loss of the Miss California title, prizes and cash scholarships. 8. Once chosen CYE s Miss/Teen/Jr. Teen/Pre-Teen/Jr Miss - Miss California I agree to return to crown my successor. To ensure I fulfill this agreement as a Miss California or a Teen Miss California titleholder, I will receive one-half of the cash Scholarship award November 17, 2018 and the remainder of the Cash Scholarship amount when I crown my successor. Miss and Teen Miss California - If I do not crown my successor, if I enter/participate in other pageants, in any capacity/position, without written consent of CYE s Executive Director, Ms Billie Sangster I understand I will forfeit the remaining cash scholarship award. 9. I am aware that I will be required to provide my own wardrobe for the pageant. All appearances, wearing CYE s Miss California title sash and tiara must be approved by CYE s Executive Director. If chosen a CYE Miss California titleholder, I or any third party will not develop a separate website or use any pictures that relate to my CYE title and/or my participation in any event representing such out side the official pageants website or any social media sites. 10. *SCHOLARSHIPS: I understand *If fewer than 15 Miss California Contestants, the scholarship award will be $3, *If fewer than 10 Miss California Contestants, the scholarship award will be $1, **If fewer than 15 TEEN Contestants, the scholarship award will be $1, **If fewer than 10 TEEN Contestants, the scholarship award will be $ ***If fewer than 50 contestants enter the Pageant the Pageant will be cancelled and all fees will be refunded within 10 days. 12. MODEL RELEASE: I do hereby give my permission for CYE, and its affiliations to use my photographs in publicity and promotion (including, but not limited to, newspapers, television, magazines). I understand and agree that I will not receive compensation for such photos. TRANSPORTATION will not be provided to any official events. The participant agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless any and all Pageant Directors, Billie Sangster, Consultants, Committee persons or individuals involved with the pageant, the Council for Youth Empowerment (CYE), its sponsors, and employees of the sponsors from and against any liability, claim, loss or expense (including reasonable attorney s fees) arising out of any injury, accidents, or damage which is caused by, arises from or is in any way connected with my participation in this program or event. The Pageant Directors, Committee persons or individuals involved with the pageants, its sponsors, and employees of the sponsors shall not be responsible for accidents or losses that may occur to any of the participants at the rehearsals, outing events, training programs, or any other official business of CYE and its affiliates. The parent or guardian of any minor is responsible for any injury or damage resulting from the participant s participation in the program or special events. This includes any injury to others or to the participants or to the participant s property. I certify that I have read the statements/rules and regulations & agreement listed above.
