Dane competed in the 11 year old backstroke and Ava in the 12 year old breaststroke event. Both students were successful in progressing through to the regional Championships which were held on Wednesday 15th March. Both children performed extremely well and we are extremely proud of their success. Unfortunately neither Dane nor Ava will be going on to the next level. House Athletics Wakakirri 2017 It s not too late if you would still like to be part of this exciting Performing Arts Artist In Residence Program. Tony Keeble will once again be working with the children across twelve weeks to choreograph this year s item. The performance date for 2017 is early Term 3. The cost of the program is $85. Please see Mrs Campbell or myself by the end of term if you are interested. FOSW Nominations Nominations for FOSW president and secretary are now open. Forms can be picked up from the office. Nominations close on the last day of Term with successful nominees announced at the first meeting in Term 2. I would like to take this opportunity to thank to our current president Kristy Hermelin, and Secretary Erin Weiler, for their wonderful work over the past twelve months in leading the group. Thank you also to the many parents who work hard and contribute to the success of our fundraising activities. 18th April The Term 1 Sporting Carnival First Day of Term 2 continued with our House (Tuesday) Athletics being held last Thursday. It s a great day for the children and as always, they give their very best to participate and earn points for their House. This year, the winning House was Concorde. Champion girl was Indya Hildebrand and we had dual champion boy winners, Brock O Brien and Travis White. Congratulations to all the children for their fantastic effort during the day. We wish all the very best to competitors going on to the District Aths in May. Family Fun Night Once again, a huge thankyou to our amazing FOSW team for their hard work in preparation for our Family Fun Night. Celebrating our fourth year, this event continues to be popular and it s lovely to see so many families, both new and long serving come together to make the occasion special for our children. Special thanks to the many parents who donated equipment, time and resources to ensure that the evening ran smoothly, with a variety of novelties and treats. FOSW works extremely hard as our major fundraising group. This year, we are hoping to use our locally raised funds to erect a shade shelter over our fitness circuit equipment. House T-Shirts It s been great to see so many children wearing our House T-Shirts over the past few weeks. Obviously children can wear these during formal sports days such as the House Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country. During these events, children can also wear their normal school uniform or a plain T-Shirt in their house colour. On Fridays, the 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 teams also participate in an hour of sport. Children are permitted to wear their house T-Shirt on this day as they bear the school logo, but as it is a normal school day, plain coloured shirts are not permitted. If children do not have a school house T-Shirt, they must wear normal school uniform. House T-Shirt order forms were sent home last week, if you wish to purchase a House T-Shirt please return the order form and payment (Qkr! is our preferred payment option) no later than Wednesday 29th March. President, Vice president and Secretary positions are all available. General committee members do not need to be nominated. Congratulations to Ethan Lloyd who was the winner of the Guess the number of Lollies in the jar with the closest guess of 410! (There were actually 418 lollies in the jar) - Well Done! 6 日本語 Nihongo Notes (Japanese Notes) Hello everybody (Konnichi wa こんにちは ) The children have been doing a great job of remembering how to use names and titles in the classroom. So I thought I d share this information with you. The Japanese usually address each other by the last name. Only close friends and children are usually addressed by their first name. The other thing to remember is that people usually add a title after a name. There are many titles depending on the gender and social position of the person you are addressing. Some of the more common titles are as follows: Sensei This is a title used for teachers, doctors and other people from whom you receive a service or instruction. Place it after your teacher s surname (e.g. Smith Sensei, Udasuka sensei). San This is the most neutral and most used title and can be used in most situations. In formal situations it may not be polite enough. ( Sama would be used). The san title means Mr, Mrs, Miss or Ms. You can put san after names of people who you do not know or your friends names (e.g. Tom san). ** In the Japanese custom we do not place san after our own name. Kun This is an informal title used for boys and men that are younger than yourself (e.g. John Chan This is an informal title used for young children and very close friends or family members (e.g. Mary chan).
