This is an excellent program provided by experienced educators to CALENDAR discuss changes associated with puberty and discuss the reproductive system and birth process. I encourage parents to attend the relevant sessions with their child to facilitate the productive conversations around this important topic. The two sessions and the details are outlined in the note attached to this newsletter and have gone out from class teachers and available on the Skoolbag app. Many of our students have been participating in the Upper Hunter Eisteddfod for Public Speaking and Choral Speaking. We wish all our students the best of luck as they represent our school. Congratulations to the students who have already competed and have received awards for their efforts. Last Friday, we had students from Scone High School perform at our years 3-6 Assembly. They did a wonderful job sharing their talents and demonstrating the learning opportunities available at SHS. Thank you Scone High, our students really enjoyed your visit. We wish our public speakers and poetry presenters all the best of luck. We are very proud of their success so far. Being invited to now perform on a wider stage is very exciting! The poetry sections of the Eisteddfod are spread out on different days throughout this week. The APEX Public Speaking Competition takes place at 5pm, Wednesday 6 June at St James School Hall, Skellator Stock Route, Muswellbrook. All are invited to attend. Please know a small entry fee will be charged. Nicole Borg Public Speaking Co-ordinator BOYS PSSA TOUCH FOOTBALL On Thursday 31 May the Senior Boys represented our school with pride. The boys who played in the team included: Blake L, Campbell M, Steven A, Tasman C, Jack F, Heath P, Yorke M, Luc B, Jack T and Jackson S. Scone Public School versed Aberdeen Public School and the boys won Yorke, Tasmin, Steven, Heath and Jack F all scored two tries, Campbell, Blake and Logan scored a try each also. I would like to congratulate all the boys in the team on their fantastic effort and great sportsmanship. I look forward to taking them to the next level when it is announced. Once again, well done to all players! 2 GIRLS TOUCH FOOTBALL On Monday 4 June we travelled to Denman to compete against Denman Public School in the first round of the PSSA knock out competition. We were successful with a 6-1 win. The girls all played well and showed great sportsmanship. Try Scorers on the day were Eliza, Lily, Hallee, Sophie and Riana. I would like to thank Ross Duggan and Wayne Hedley for the time and effort they have put in to coaching the girls. Our second round will be next month against the winner of Aberdeen P.S and Muswellbrook P.S. Congratulations Ella I, Hallee F, Eliza D, Hallie C, Sophie H, Sarah S, Riana T and Lily A on your win! 3 QUIRINDI HORSE SPORTS On Friday 25 May, five students travelled to Quirindi for the annual Horse Sports Day. On the day there were over 160 riders of both Primary and High School aged children, some who had travelled many kilometres to compete. Congratulations to Bella, Ava, Olivia and Taihla for placing in their particular event. A big congratulations to Clayton who came home with the 11 Years Boy Reserve Age Champion. What a great effort for you and Bleu! I would like to thank all parents for their effort and help on these days. The early starts, the dusty environments and your help and support to each other is greatly appreciated from both myself and the children. 4 KNIGHTS KNOCKOUT SUCCESS Last Tuesday 29 May, the Open Rugby League team travelled down to Newcastle to play in the Knights Knockout in the Primary division. In game one we played Telarah PS and won 8-0 with two tries to Jayden S. Game two was against St Brigid s Raymond Terrace, winning 16-0 with tries to Campbell M, Heath P, Jack F and Jack T. The boys played Nulkaba PS in game three and won again 16-0 with two tries to Campbell M and tries to Jack F and Tyla F. Game four was against Thornton and the team had their first try scored against them. They won the game 16-4 with tries to Jack F, Blake L, Jayden S and Campbell M. Scone Public School topped their pool and were through to the quarter finals where we played King St PS. Winning the game 12-0 with tries to Jayden S, Campbell M and Jack F. The final game of the day was the semifinal against St Pauls Rutherford. Winning the game 16-4 with tries to Blake L, Logan C, Heath P and Jack F. The boys displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day and played some amazing footy, they never looked in danger of losing and only had two tries scored against them in six games of football which is an amazing effort. They now travel to Newcastle on 4 July and play Valentine PS in the Grand Final at McDonald Jones Stadium. Thank you to all the parents for getting the boys to the game, Mr Smith and Mr Byrne for running water on the day and a big thank you to Mr Foley who has been coaching the boys. Chicken wedges, jelly, chicken JJ s and Callipos will also be phased out. Once our current supply has been sold they will not be replaced. A new updated and revised menu will be sent to all families once current details have been finalised. COMMUNITY NEWS St. Mary s Parish welcomes you to an information night regarding the Sacramental Program Tuesday 26 June at 5pm at St Mary s primary school. Please come along if your child is in Year 3 Year 6 and you would like to continue their journey of faith. Interrelate is a specialist organisation with over 90 years experience teaching sexuality and relationship education in NSW schools. Interrelate programs are interactive and family focused and are presented by highly trained and experienced educators. Audience: Year 3 and 4 students and their parents/carers Sessions: 1 x 60-minute session Program focus: Discuss the male and female reproductive systems, foetal development and the birth process Personal safety and protective behaviours Note: Older students are encouraged to attend if they have not previously seen this program. For Puber5pm Audience: Year 5 and 6 students and their parents/carers Sessions: 1 x 60-minute session Program focus: Discuss the physical changes of puberty, emphasising that it can be different for everyone Develop students understanding of periods and sperm production, as well as the physical, emotional, social and intellectual changes associated with puberty for both boys and girls Enhance awareness of children s personal safety and protective behaviours Note: Younger students are welcome to attend at the discretion of their parents/carers. 7 What are Bloom Markets? Held at Scone Public School and organised by the Scone Public School P&C Association, Bloom Markets are one of the major fundraisers for your school. Over 30 market stallholders come along, selling everything from jewellery to candles and local produce to handmade clothing. In addition, each grade is allocated a stall selling tombolas, cakes, pumpkin soup and running the BBQ. Add in face painting, a jumping castle, plaster painting, kids games and performances by Miss Amy s School of Dance. When are Bloom Markets? This year, Bloom Markets will be held on Saturday 28 July 2018 from 10am until 2pm. Why do you need my Help? Bloom Markets have proven to be an extremely popular event, not just for our school, but within the wider Scone and Upper Hunter community. Many local and regional stallholders look forward to coming to Bloom to sell their goods and wares. Crowd attendance at Bloom Markets has grown to large numbers. There are activities for everyone and Bloom is a very popular family day out. In the past, there have been 2 or more markets each year. However, there is only one Bloom planned for 2018, so we need to make it the biggest and best one ever! The Bloom Market Committee is a small group of parents who have already been planning the 2018 Bloom for quite some time. If you are interested in joining the Committee, please get in touch with us. We d love to have some new ideas and faces join us on the journey to achieve some amazing things for our school! What can I help with on the day? We really need some extra help on Saturday 28 July 2018 so that things run smoothly and successfully! We need donations of goods for sale and we need help running the stalls. Each grade has been allocated a stall. Keep an eye out for notes coming home soon with details of the stall which your child s grade is responsible for. We ll also need people to help us set up (put up gazebos, setting up tables and chairs etc) and then when it s all over, we need help with packing these things away. An exciting announcement! We are very excited to announce that this year we will have a special raffle for our helpers on the day. For every hour that you can help, you will get one raffle ticket into the prize draw. Tickets to this raffle are only available via this method (ie. you cannot buy tickets). All tickets issued will be entered into a draw to win a $50 Cellarbrations Liquor gift card (for Mum or Dad) AND a canteen lunch order once a week, every week for a whole term (for your child).
