1 Belrose Public School Ralston Avenue Belrose NSW 2085 Phone: Belrose OSHC Centre Phone: TERM 3, WEEK 4 NEWSLETTER DATE: 11 August, 2016 Friday 12 August Monday 15 August Tuesday 16 August Thursday 18 August Saturday 20 August Dates Healthy Harold Life Education Author visit & book parade K-2 Sports Day Trivia Night Monday 22 August Probots Year 3 Tuesday 23 August Newsmaker Year 4 Monday 29 August Swim School Year 2 starts 2 weeks Friday 2 September Friday 9 September Monday 12 September Wednesday 21 September Friday 23 September Term Father s Day Breakfast Swim School Finishes Sydney North Athletics Carnival Awards Morning Last Day of Term Monday Assembly commences at 2.15pm Principal s Message Dear Parents and Carers, Congratulations to the children who received Student of the Week and Belrose Bus awards at our assembly on Monday. Well done! We are very proud of you. Congratulations to those children who were recognised and received ribbons for their efforts at the Athletics Carnival What a wonderful turnout for our school Open Day last Thursday, (even though the weather didn t co-operate). Thank you to all parents and friends who attended. The performances by the children was absolutely fantastic. The children were very proud to show off their work. Thanks to the mums for organising morning tea and lunch for everyone. Congratulations to Liam, Joshua, Grace and Abi who will represent the school at the Premier s Spelling Bee Regional Final at the end of Term 3. These four children have been entrusted with the task of learning how to spell all the words on the Premier s Spelling lists. There is a free dictionary AP that I use that may be of use to these children to help with meanings, origins and pronunciation of words. The AP is Dictionary.Com. The Book Week character parade will be held on Tuesday 16th August commencing in the hall at 9.15am. Children will be able to dress up as their favourite book character or book title. All parents are welcome to attend and watch the children parade in their costumes. This was a very enjoyable activity last year. Children will be able to remain in their costumes all day if they wish but will need to bring warm clothing as well, if the weather changes. Ms Wedlock has organised Jan Latta (children s author) to visit school to speak to the children. Parents are very welcome to attend the Book Parade and dress up as their favourite character as well. The Zone athletics will be held on Monday 22nd August at Narrabeen. A team of 47 athletes will be representing the school. Advice from the PSSA is that athletes competing at the Warringah Zone Athletics Carnival are permitted to wear Skins or compression garments and are not required to have shorts over the top. All representatives will be given an athletics top. Mrs Meikle and Mrs Meacock will be attending the carnival. Good luck to all those children representing the school. The DoE Swimming Scheme commences on Monday 29th August and runs every school day for 2 weeks. It will be held at the Warringah Aquatic centre and children will be travelling by bus under the supervision of two teachers. This is a very worthwhile program run by Department of Education. It is of great benefit in that children receive intense instruction every day for those two weeks. The P&C Trivia Night will be held on 20th August in the school hall. Get some friends and organise a table and have some fun. Kind regards Barry Chamberlain

IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT PARENT-ONLINE-PAYMENTS (POP) It is great to see so many families embracing our new payment system. It is a simple and efficient way to pay for fees and excursions etc however, please note, any band fees cannot be paid through POP. Band fees are handled through the P & C. Having said that, we know there have been a couple of band excursions where we have accepted POP payments so we understand this could cause confusion. A good rule to go by is if the permission note has POP as an option to pay, it is okay to pay this way. Admin staff
