Since 1997, the Solid Gold Sound Club has helped the Band travel to games at Texas, Miami, Ohio State, Washington, Alabama, Colorado and Illinois. Please return the enclosed Donation Envelope or visit the Band s website at to make a donation online. Summer 2006 UCLA vs. Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana October 21, 2006 Band Alumni Reunion Flag Stephanie Valenzuela French Hornist Barbara Charaeva Drum Major Dan Thomson The 9th Biennial Band Alumni Reunion will be held on Saturday, October 28th, at the Homecoming football game versus Washington State. ALL BAND ALUMNI are invited to perform at halftime along with the Bruin Marching Band. Plans call for the rehearsal to be held on a parking lot adjacent to the Rose Bowl. Game time is currently listed at 4:00pm, so rehearsal will begin sometime around Noon that day. We will be sending out registration forms this summer. 2 Chinese New Year Parade in Hong Kong Fifty members of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band, along with six members of the UCLA Dance Team, traveled to Hong Kong to participate in that city s Chinese New Years Parade last January. The trip lasted six days, the highlight being a performance in front of 5,000 people that was broadcast live all over Asia, and a parade through Hong Kong with over one million spectators present. Over forty performing groups participated in the parade, including ones from Mexico, Japan, the Czech Republic, Korea, Italy, Malta, Canada, South Africa, Thailand, and New Zealand. Probably the most memorable event of the whole trip was when all of these groups were together in a huge convention hall waiting for the parade to begin. After mingling with musicians and dancers from every continent, impromtu performances by each group soon ensued from every corner of the room. The result was pandemonium, cacophony and fun! The trip also included two other concert performances and plenty of sightseeing the mention of Victoria Peak, Lan Kwai Fong, the Stanley Market, Kowloon and the top floor of Peninsula Hotel bring back great memories for all who made the trip. 5 Back in the Final Four! Thirty band members performed at each of the NCAA Basketball Tournament games on the road to Indianapolis for UCLA s first appearance at the Final Four since the 1995 championship season.
