1 Newsletter Issue 3 Friday 30 January Hospitality Party On December 11th the GCSE Hospitality students form Winton & Glenmoor hosted two Christmas parties for a total of 90 year 3 pupils from Hillview School. As part of their coursework they had to plan and host a celebratory event. We chose to do a Christmas party. We invited some children from Hillview School to be our guests. We had worked with them last year and as they'd had such a great time, they asked if they could bring the whole of year 3 this year! Of course we said yes, but this gave us quite a challenge as it meant 90 children would be coming. During October and November the students worked hard to plan a Christmas buffet lunch, craft activities and party games for the guests. The party day was amazing. Many of our students Christmas Spirit in the Library dressed up in Christmas costumes and they made a professional job of decorating the Zibo Hall for the event. The year 3 children were welcomed by our chief Elf and the party got off to a great start with games of pass the parcel and pin the carrot nose on Olaf! They then enjoyed some super A good time was had by all in the Library on the 16th & 17th December. On Tuesday 16th the School Choir entertained us with a selection of Christmas Carols and on Wednesday 17th we had a very successful cake sale, raising 54. Our raffle was won by our lovely caretaker Gary Stevens and our guess the number of sweets in a jar competition was won by Jordan Wells, year 8. craft activities such as decorating biscuits and making their own party bags. This was followed by a buffet lunch with all of the food made by our students. They even enjoyed a visit to Santa's Grotto. We rounded off the party with peaceful game of sleeping snowmen before we said our goodbyes. The children and staff said they'd had a lovely time and each child even wrote to thank us when they got back to Carol Singing at Queensmead Residential Home Glenmoor Year 10 GCSE Music students, supported by special guest Jessica Vallory (Year 8) brought a little extra sparkle to the afternoon for the residents of Queensmead Home. The afternoon concert featured performances as a Choir, Vocal Soloists, and Piano soloists, and a chance for the residents to singalong with some of the carols. Well done to all students involved for spreading the Christmas Cheer in our local community.

Christmas Gala 8 th and 9 th of December 2014 Christmas got started not only with just a bang (on the drum), but also a herald of Trumpet (and Saxophone) and a Choir of Angles (Year 7 and the school choir) at Glenmoor and Winton academies. The 8 th and 9 th of December saw the school s first Christmas Gala event, featuring a whole evening of entertainment. The crowds began arriving at 6pm at the Christmas Fayre, run by SWAG and supported by Young Enterprise, which featured lovely Christmas gifts to buy, treats to eat such as cupcakes, sweets, candy floss, and a book stall. The concert began at 7pm and featured over 120 performers across the Expressive Arts of Dance, Drama and Music, as well as guest performances from Kinson Primary School, Bournemouth Vineyard Church, and a rendition of this year s winning carol from the Bournemouth Schools Music Association Carol Competition entitled The Angels Carol, by Georgia Burfoot and Jordan Watts. A huge congratulations to everyone involved.

3 Year 11 igcse Success The 110 pupils who sat their English igcse exam in November received their results this week after a nail-biting three month wait! The results were worth it every single pupil achieved an A*-C grade and over half of pupils achieved progress above national expectations. All the hard work was worth it! I m so pleased that I have one important GCSE in the bag! said Tilly Galway. Well done to all!

4 Loserville rehearsals in full swing (or should I say rock!) The School production this year will be Loserville written by Elliot Davis and James Bourne of Busted fame. The show was on the West End in and was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2013 for best new musical. The year is 1971 and Holly wants to start a new life; a life that focuses on her brain instead of her good looks. Michael wants a new life too; a life where he is not persecuted daily for his brains and NO looks a ticket out of Loserville forever. When their paths inevitably intertwine the question becomes; can the beauty and the geek really change the world forever? The cast and creative team have been working incredibly hard since October on this upbeat and demanding show with singing, acting and dance rehearsals on nearly every lunchtime and after school. The Art and Design Technology team are working hard behind the scenes to turn the Egging Hall into a Sci-fi 70 s utopia and the backstage team have begun prop making and costume sourcing with great gusto. We have also sourced a professional band so that Loserville can truly rock out! The show will be playing on Wednesday 4th March through to Friday 6th March and tickets will go on sale before half term so make sure that you don t miss out!

5 Lottie Wyatt, Kiana Broome and Hallie Sells celebrate their successful study of Harry Potter. Potter Party! After working incredibly hard on their Dream Journal fantasy final pieces for the close study of Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone Miss Noakes 7y-En-C Glenmoor Girls showcased and presented their short stories, womping willow trees, wizard wands, Harry Potter howlers (and a custom made sorting hat cake courtesy of Carys Addison) at the final end of term Potter Party! Congratulations to all the Glenmoor students who demonstrated high levels of progress, excelling in English and rising into set B and ASA for Spring Term One. Superheroes Extended Learning Project Autumn Term Two saw Year 7 and Year 8 Glenmoor and Winton students stretch their current levels of progress and create their responses to the Superhero Extended Learning Projects. Congratulations to all students who took part in the Able and Ambitious challenge. A bespoke Extended Learning Certificate and 25 Praise Points will be awarded to all participants. The super students who won the selection of marvellous prizes were Vitor Peta Gomes (7BST) and Miles Ward (7DNO). Both members of the Able and Ambitious Creative Writing Club both students revealed their responses to the prize, I really enjoyed the Heroes and Villains ELP! I personally really both writing and 3D design therefore the English Able and Ambitious Programme is a fantastic way to unleash hidden creativity. I loved the Extended Learning Project, both the artistic and writing aspect and the challenge. Please marvel at the great pieces of project work, which will be showcased in the Zibo Library.

7 Extended Learning Project Champions! Vitor Peta Gomes (7BST) and Miles Ward (7DNO) David Walliams: World of Williams: Extended Learning Project With Awful Auntie winning both Children s Book of the Year and Audiobook of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards, David Williams newest release has spent six weeks as the best-selling book in the UK and has been selected as the Literacy focus for Spring Term One s Extended Learning Project. Choose from a selection of STRETCH activities such as composing your own creative writing journal, artistic acrostic poems or enter the Walliam s Writing Competition whereby you can compose a 500 word piece of prose inspired by Walliams! All participating students will gain a bespoke certificate, PRAISE POINTS and David Walliams inspired prizes for their student portfolios. 8 Handball Heroes Both our boys and girls handball teams, which are coached by Olympian John Pearce, became South West regional handball champions last week. There were some tense matches, but the teams saw off the tough competition. On the back of this success, many of our players have been selected to represent Dorset at the National Handball finals later this year. Watch this space! Massive Cross Country Win Our Under 13 boys Cross Country team won the Bryanston School, Ken Baily Cross Country Races won a hugely prestigious cross country event on the public school cross country calendar last week. The boys saw off teams from such schools as Dumpton, Castle Court, Clayesmore, BCS and Gillingham School to name just a few; they were visibly shocked by our win! The team was made up of Tom Farwell, Miles Ward, Sam Veal, Tom Weeks and Sam Fudge who all trained incredibly hard for the event and thoroughly deserve their win.
