1 Bowbrook E-News Friday 15 th June 2018: Summer Shindig - Cancelled. The parent's 'Summer Shindig' due to be held on Saturday July 7th has been cancelled due to lack of numbers. Whilst I would have been happy to run this at a loss as it was more about having a parents social evening than making money, the numbers were such that we would have been rattling around in the marquee with no real atmosphere; so regrettably I have had to cancel this summer's event. Perhaps parents would like to suggest an alternative social event? Perhaps in the autumn term? BOTTLES (for both adults and children) QUALITY PRE-LOVED ITEMS/UNWANTED GIFTS PLANTS (to be taken to Mr Geisler in Infants) Friday 22nd June: CAKES and SWEET TREATS (plates will be sent home as a reminder) Help make sure that the Teddy Bear Tombola doesn't become the Teddy 'Bare' Tombola! M7CH would like to thank all the people who've donated teddies and soft toys so far. We still need lots and lots more to make our stall a success ( so we can give a prize every time!).

Mrs Heaume and M7CH Prep School News: The Prep School had a lovely assembly from Year 3 and Mrs A on Thursday all about Nature and the wonderful world we live in. The smiley badge winners were: William Rush N, Harper Lily Hartwell R, Ruby Robinson I1, Zoe Mudd I2, Florence Miller-Mead J3 and Joshua Laws J4. We also commended Joshua and Amelie Laws for their contributions to Cookhill Cricket Club having both played in their first cricket matches and Amelie received a medal for Trainer of the Week. We welcomed Daddies into the Infant department on Friday to join us for a special Father s Day celebration, thank you to everyone who was able to attend. School Fete a request from Year 6 please could everyone bring in a jar filled with sweeties for our stall, donations should be brought to either Mr Robinson or Mrs Ridge. Mrs Ridge Science Dept News: Class 6SR have started a soil project with Mrs Robinson and are going to be conducting a composting experiment. With this in mind could the pupils in 6SR please bring a 2 litre clear plastic bottle with a lid to school on Tues 20 th June. Mrs Robinson Music Dept News: Rehearsals have been in full swing this week in preparation for our Summer Concert on Wednesday 4 th July at 7pm. All students from Nursery and Reception up to Year 10 are involved in the concert and are expected to attend. Infant Choir (N/R and I1 & I2) will perform at the very start of the concert and will therefore be allowed to leave as soon as their piece has finished. Letters which were given to some soloists last week do need to be completed and returned to me urgently; the return date was today, 15 th June.

3 Praise was given to all extra-curricular groups this week for their commitment, perseverance and focus during these last few weeks before our concert. Please may I remind students that attendance is so important. There will be an additional Folk Group rehearsal again on Tuesday 19 th June during lunch time. Instrumental: The number of students taking instrumental lessons at school is steadily growing and it is a very healthy number for a small school. If your child is not planning to continue their lessons in September, please do give notice this term in writing or by . Stars of the Week: Serra Caunt for her independent work upon her GCSE composition, Matilda Hough for her practised solo part in Junior Choir, James Davies, Penny Mills, Emma Hudson and Thea Andrew for their superb solo vocals during our concert rehearsal this week. Finally, James Bodycote for his steady and strong playing of the drums during Rock Band. Well done to all! Mrs Izod Race for Life Event Dates: Monday 18th June: Race for life assembly - 9CD Tuesday 19th June: Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 girls race for life in games afternoon Wednesday 20th June: Year 9, 10 girls race for life in games afternoon Thursday 21st June: Year 7, 8 girls race for life in games afternoon Wear pink for the lesson for 1 Wednesday 20th June: is the cake and pink lemonade sale at short break Thursday 21st June: is charity raffle being drawn at short break Mrs Dove Worcester Dragon Boat Regatta - Sunday 1st July I am delighted to report that we have moved from the top of the waiting list to gaining a place at this exciting regatta. Many thanks to all who have expressed an interest in taking part - further details will be forthcoming in the very near future. Key points for now:

4 Entrants must be aged 12 years and over. Paddlers must be available one evening between now and the regatta to go through the safety brief and to take part in a training session (this helps your crew manager to establish where on the boat you will be best placed - on the left/right of the boat near the front/ back etc) and to teach you the commands (instructions) which will be given by the boat helm. We need a mixture of pupils, staff and parents, all shapes and sizes, to give us a competitive edge (as well as having fun!) Stronger paddlers will be the 'engine room' of power in the middle of the boat, strokes at the front set the pace and so on. We are allowed a team of 20 + a drummer. On the day, we will put out a boat with 16 crew members on board plus our drummer (we are lucky to have our Head Girl drumming - something she has done for WDRBC's premier team for several years). We will rotate paddlers so that everyone gets the opportunity to take part. We can enter with fewer than 16 paddlers, but this will make it very hard work for those on board. It is a competition and some teams will have all strong adults. A mixture will give us a fighting chance. Although we will all wear buoyancy aids, it is a requirement that paddlers can swim. The entry fee is likely to be between 10 and 15 per per person, depending on how many people sign up. Please Mrs Heaume on charlotte.heaume@bowbrookhouseschool.co.uk as soon as possible please. It would be extremely useful if you can provide your weight in kg so I can begin planning the composition of the boat. Please do take part in this exhilarating day. I'm not sure if we'll get the opportunity to go a city loop which involves what feels like a sharp hand-brake turn in a boat whilst paddling underneath the main Worcester City Bridge, but it is a fabulous experience. Mrs Heaume PE Department News: Fixtures and Results ISA Junior Athletics Twenty Eight students from years 4 to 6 travelled to the Birmingham Alexander Stadium for the Junior ISA athletics event on what was a glorious sunny day. We are yet to receive the final results from the event and when we do, we will let you know any relevant results. We believe Will Stead came second overall in his Shot Putt, Guy Valender won his 150m heat but as they were timed heats, we don t know his overall position. The year 5 boys relay team made the final of the relays and Sid Murray got into the final of his 75m sprint. Flynn Little got into the final 80m sprint. There were other positive performances and we will update when we have the information.

5 Well done to all involved for your efforts. U15 Rounder s V s Bredon An excellent first game for the U15 girls Rounder s team which was played on Wednesday afternoon away at Bredon school. 1st innings Bowbrook was batting first and the girls listened to the advice and batted well, scoring 6 ½ rounders. The girls fielded superbly and worked well as a team, great catches by Izzie Thompson and Daisy Hill who ensured that Bowbrook caught out all of Bredon players with 12 good balls still to bat. First innings: Bowbrook 6 ½ - Bredon 1 For the 2 nd innings the girls set themselves a target of getting another 5 ½ rounders which they just missed out on by scoring 5 rounders. Overall the girl s communication when fielding was fantastic and there was great team moral. A special mention to the Captain, Daisy Hill for getting player of the match. Final score was a win for Bowbrook 10 ½- Bredon 6. Next Weeks Fixtures: Students should check the PE notice board to see if they are involved in fixtures.
