2 WHOLE SCHOOL RAAS Partnership with Parents The next meeting is on Tuesday 6 th May at pm in Gatton Hall. Anybody is warmly invited to attend. We are very aware of the importance of good communication with parents/guardians of pupils at the School. This working party was set up to ensure parents have a regular opportunity to discuss their views. I have an contact list and if you would like to be added to it, please let me know. Every meeting has an agenda; minutes are taken and then circulated to all on the list. Ian Rowe ianrowe@gatton-park.org.uk Dear Parents/Guardians, Sponsorship Opportunity Looking ahead to next academic year I am looking to gain sponsorship for the School s 1 st XV Rugby squad. Perhaps you may be able to help? Perhaps your business or a friends/family members business may be able to help? Our aim is to raise 2500 to purchase a new rugby kit (22 x Shirts/shorts/socks), as well as possibly a training/warm up top and match balls. Any donations would be of great benefit to the boys and I would very much like for them to have a new kit to help in what I hope will be a successful & enjoyable rugby season. The marketing opportunities for those that donate can range from logos/badges on different parts of the playing kit, to sponsoring the match balls. This is of course can be discussed as to how you might like to advertise your business, or what you d like your donation to go towards. The school is a registered charity (no ) which can be helpful (for you) for business/corporate donations. Please do get in touch if you feel you could help, it would be much appreciated. Thank you to everyone that sponsored me and gave me their good wishes. Here is a picture of some of the children from Open Arms Malawi, the charity we were supporting, and me at the start line on the final day. 7 SENIOR SCHOOL To the Parents/Guardians of Year 9 and 10 students Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Awareness Event We are pleased to invite you to attend a free Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Awareness session for all parents and guardians of students in Years 9 and 10 taking place at our School on Tuesday 6 th May 2014 at 6.30pm in the PAC. The event is being delivered by a local child protection charity, The Lucy Faithful Foundation, and will last approximately 90 minutes. There will also be time available at the end of the session for you to ask any questions. The event will cover topics such as:- The facts about sexual abuse and exploitation. What these are and how it can happen How abusers groom their victim and why victims may not talk about what is happening Spotting the signs in a child s behaviour, that might suggest they have been, or are being, sexually abused or exploited Positive actions what we can do to protect children and young people from sexual abuse and exploitation Acting on concerns what we can do if we have a concern, including sources of information, help and advice In order to confirm numbers for this evening, please confirm your attendance by to boarding@gatton-park.org.uk if you have not yet already done so. 9 The RAAS Year 7 Cricket team started the season with a clinical display against an undermanned Beacon team with a 41 run win in their 20/20 home fixture. The boys were greeted with a carnival-like atmosphere as an additional year 7 boys came as curious onlookers or to try out the new cricket net facilities during the first innings. Luke Beattie lost the toss and RAAS were sent in to bat but we started terrifically with Barnaby Powell and Cameron Anderson getting us off to a strong start against some good opening bowling. Luke Beattie played a true captains knock, notching up 21 runs which featured him hitting a 6 to get off the mark. Our bowling and fielding was also superb not ever letting Beacon into the game. Bruce Candlish started the innings by bowling their opening batsman first ball and then it was well supported by Kyran Bostel 2/6 and some excellent death bowling by Rupert Satchwell-Smith. Special mention to Jaime, our young Spanish player, for his first ever game of cricket and bowling 2 excellent overs. The boys were full of confidence after this win and look forward to improving as a team during our upcoming fixtures.
