More info at Heroes assemblies We started this term with a series of assemblies devoted to heroes in our community. We have been looking at four key ideas linked to growth mindset - a real focus for us this year: 1) Hard work the idea is that all of our heroes share this quality: they have had to work hard to achieve whatever it is that they have made happen 2) Practice - all of the heroes featured in our assemblies have had to practise in their chosen field. From footballers to designers, all share that commitment to selfimprovement through regular and purposeful practice. 3) Not giving up - when challenges come along which make us doubt our goals and aspirations our heroes all show that they are resilient to the challenge. They refuse to give up even when things become difficult and challenging. 4) Believing in yourself - Our heroes all share a sense of purpose and belief. Believing in yourself is a difficult but essential skill when it comes to trying to achieve your dreams. We are really grateful to all our heroes for giving up their time: Combat Sergeant Abdy, Councillor Billings, Tom Bird from Chelsea FC, Mrs Houlihan from Oiba interiors, Stephen Danelutti from Microsoft and Patrick O Luanaigh from leading games design company ndreams. If you would like to share your story we would appreciate it. A short minute talk about your life based around the four headings would be a fascinating way for the children to gain experience and an increased understanding of the types of work that adults in our community do and how these qualities and characteristics are the cornerstone of a successful and productive working life. If you can help please let me know. The more examples we have, the better!
