Year 5s have settled in well and years 6, 7,and 8 have made a good start to the year. Year 6 had a great time at Chasewater and are now settling down to hard work for their SATs next year. I hope you all have a great break. Students will receive 20 housepoints for each pair of boots/ trainers! Sporting News The Y5 girls came 2nd in the KS2 district football competition, beating Brewood Middle School's Y5 team, but losing to the Y6 team. Y6 girls came 4th in the 1st round of the South Staffordshire netball league on 23rd September. Well done to all that took part. 2 Y6 Chasewater Trip Year 6 Students recently had the opportunity to attend a three day outdoor pursuits course at Chasewater Outdoor Education Centre. The students had the opportunity to do activities such as sailing, kayaking, Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking and many team building exercises. Both the students and staff had an enjoyable three days.

If an item of clothing is lost, please check at reception or ask your child to look in the normal area by the PE changing rooms. Readathon The students have been doing a Readathon in school it is a sponsored reading event, encouraging staff and children to read for pleasure, while raising money for a number of good causes. Reading for pure enjoyment is known to improve a child s chances in life in all kinds of ways and our aim is to continue to foster a love of reading among our students. This is a great way to boost reading in school and the good news is that 20% of all funds raised will go towards new books for our school library with the majority of the money your child raises going towards their House charity; in short, everyone benefits. We will let you know how much money has been raised. Students have been reading every where in the Library, outside even in the corridors

4 ROAD SAFETY Delivering and collection of pupils by car When delivering or collecting children to or from school by car, please avoid the area near the school gates and do not enter the car park at the start and end of the school day. These areas are busy and congested with pedestrians and cyclists at these times and we wish to do all we can to minimise the possibility of an accident. In order to ensure an efficient flow of traffic and most importantly to increase child safety, we ask that all vehicles follow the voluntary one way system and proceed along Gainsborough Drive with the school on the left hand side during these busy times. This has proved to be very effective in the past and I therefore ask all parents to adhere to this arrangement and to park considerately for the benefit of other road users and the residents of Gainsborough Drive. Parking near school Parking or waiting near schools in front of dropped kerbs and driveways, or parking on the pavement all cause problems for local residents, pedestrians and cyclists. Parking in front of dropped kerbs blocks cycle paths and the crossing points for people with pushchairs and mobility issues. Stopping in front of someone's driveway encourages others to do the same. Residents need to leave their driveways to get to and from work. Please be considerate when parking near school. How to cycle safely Always wear a helmet Look behind you before you turn, overtake or stop. Use arm signals before you turn right or left. Obey traffic lights and road signs. Don t ride on the pavement unless there's a sign saying that you can. On busy or narrow roads, don t cycle next to another person. When overtaking parked cars, watch out for car doors opening suddenly and allow room to pass safely. Don t use headphones while cycling. Don't weave in and out of traffic or change direction suddenly without signalling. BE SEEN BE SAFE.

5 Coventry Cathedral Students in Year 7 as part of their Literacy, Religious Education Studies and Humanities went to Coventry cathedral. The students focused on signs and symbols to link in with their Peace and Reconciliation unit of work which they have completed. Students were taken on a guided tour of both the old and new cathedrals. They even took part in the mid day prayers which focuses on peace for the world. At Coventry Cathedral the students had the opportunity to experience first hand what life was like all those years ago. Head Lice It s that time of year again, Back to School! With going back to school comes those pesky little beasts known as head lice. They are primarily spread through direct head to head contact. Please make checks as part of your child s general hygiene routine.

Football News KS3 girls football team beat Oldfields Middle School 4-2 in the first round of the county cup with goals from Sophie Maskew (2), Emily McGuinness and Demi McCalliog.

6 Football News KS3 girls football team beat Oldfields Middle School 4-2 in the first round of the county cup with goals from Sophie Maskew (2), Emily McGuinness and Demi McCalliog. The Y8 boys lost at home to Christchurch Academy in the first round of the county cup. The Y7 boys lost to Blessed William Howard High School in their first round cup match and lost a friendly to St Edmund's High School in Wolverhampton. The Y5 boys came 7th in the Y6 district football competition, which did not reflect the quality of a lot of their football. They lost one game, drew two and won their final game. Well done to all the students that took part you should all be proud of your achievement.
